This venue is so close to me that the windmills in the back of the dressage are literally at my friend's house..gutted they've stopped running before I ever got to compete there! I really think your vlogs are a breath of fresh air; I just really like the attitude you have and how you turn everything into a learning experience and take all the judges comments on board. The tricky horses always end up being the best and what a superstar Maggie is, it will all come together with time. Xx

Ah we were admiring the countryside and the venue. You live in a lovely area! Thank you so much, I always feel better when I take a step back to figure out what I have learned and you’re right, the tricky horses are the best, I adore Miss Magsie 💛

Another great vlog. Your honesty is always refreshing. Maggie looks in great condition, but she certainly didn't make it easy for you. Once Maggie gets her 'mojo' back after her time off, you will both be flying round. Also, the wet weather we have had previously must have interfered with some of your your training/fitness schedule. The process/journey is what makes your vlogs so interesting & enjoyable. A shout out to your awesome support team. Looking forward to what comes next 🤗

Yes I think you’re right, both Maggie and I are the types who like our ducks to be in a row and with how changeable the season has been so far, it is very difficult to do that! Thank you so much, I really appreciate your support

I thought that was a really beautiful dressage test. I thought you would’ve got less than 30. Obviously the judges are judging harsh. on the upside they’re judging everybody harsh. Well done team🎉🎉😊

Maggie is the best - she just had an off day I did notice she was behind the leg really not like her maybe she didn't like to footing - just wasn't herself - brush it off you're awesome and so is she!!

Thank you so much. It’s interesting because as a youngster she was incredibly behind the leg so I think for whatever reason she reverted to default a little bit. It would be so much easier if they could talk and we could have a chat about what would help her but then I guess that’s part of the fun - working through everything together despite the language barrier x

Would be boring if they went perfectly every time, no? 😂 Megastar Maggie can have an off day and still be amazing. Well done to both of you for imperfect but still excellent ❤

Possibly just a bit 'ring rusty', I think a lot if people have had problems on their first outing after the terrible spring weather caused havoc with training and events xx

Maggie looks really well, from watching your vlog I think that she overthinks at some of the jumps, but even hesitating she has the scope so maybe you need to give her the confidence with a stronger canter cross country, also I get really cross with dressage judging, she went really well and had some harsh marks, with a different judge you would have got very pleasing marks, well done and keep going, I know you are supposed to ask a mare but maybe Maggie can stand being told a bit more 😊 xx

She definitely over thinks - a lot! I have to work quite hard to make sure she isn’t too much of a princess and gets in there a bit more. Funny thing is that once she does she really loves it, probably a bit like all of us getting a bit too inside our head sometimes. Thanks, I’m glad you thought it was a good test too! X

i feel like you used the whip a bit harshly when she stopped at the water?
@ELSEventing
@ELSEventing Год назад
Thanks for your question, I completely understand the whip debate and I would never want anyone to think that my horses aren’t treated with compassion and kindness. I do absolutely everything I can to make sure my horses are well looked after. But I am aware there are also people out there that are not looking after their horse’s best interests and welfare. If you watch, I only use it at the instant she stops and no other point. When I represent I don’t touch her with it because I can feel she’s taking me so there is no need. It is used in the exact instance of the disobedience as a reprimand so she knows that stopping isn’t acceptable otherwise how does she distinguish between right and wrong? It is an aid I save only for when she has been naughty just as I save a pat and telling her she’s a good girl for when she’s been good. I use a very padded flexible bat which I have tested on my own leg to ensure it’s not going to harm her and I would say is it more a visual and noise aid than feel, particularly as her adrenaline is up on the XC. If you watch horses turned out in the field, they are also very black and white with their actions - such as, if a horse over steps the mark, they will likely get kicked by the horse that is in charge. This is much more direct and painful than use of the bat no matter how hard it is used. From watching horses it’s clear this is how they use their body language and often after the kick the horse doesn’t overstep the mark again. Personally I think it’s much kinder to be quick and clear than to have blurred lines where the horses are confused and don’t know where the boundaries are as in my experience they tend to be much more anxious. I hope this makes sense x
