And satisfy loyal customers? That's crazy talk.. it's like Acura putting the same 300 horsepower v6 in their 2020 TLX A-spectacular... I'm not sure what manufacturers are doing lately... But if Infiniti doesn't step up their game with dual clutch transmissions, I'm headed to BMW.
I don't get it... Why? Isn't it better a stroker kit on your already abused 3.7 and end up with stronger internals plus even bigger displacement? (4.2L turbo ready) and if doing a swap, why lower displacement instead of a GT-R engine? I know that the VR is newer and may be stronger and "turbo ready", but I still think a stroker kit would end up being better, or am I wrong? Honestly this confuses me because other people also has done this VR30TT conversion and many more have interest in doing it
The swap happened for a few reasons. A: We wanted to continue to durability test the VR30 platform in a way that hasn't been done yet and apply what we learn to future Z platforms that we expect to adopt this powertrain. B: We wanted to reduce weight and add simplicity. The VQ37 is an outstanding engine and this car competed in Global Time Attack (and won) with its twin turbos VQ at just under 600whp for many years however managing heat has been challenging. So far the VR30 has excelled in that department. It's also far lighter and more responsive, which has been a blessing on track.
*If you carefully log all the steps taken to get this swap done, you can easily do an instructive video and sell a kit that goes along with it. Opportunity to corner another section of the market is all yours. Good Luck!*
drizzetsrevenge Yeah, lots of R&D hours. Lots of Fabrication Hours, Lots of budgeting the labor hours for garage project, development of parts. I was speaking purely from a marketing prospective, building brand loyalty with projects and merchandise such as that can translate to big steps for companies like theirs.
Even tho its complex you got people out there swapping engines from other cars and it was complex q50 comes with the vq37vhr and the vr30ddtt so if the q50 and 60 comes with both engines and the 370z comes with the vq37vhr how difficult can it be? Once they make the kit it should be plug and play, people will buy this kit instead of turbo charging the 370, 350, or the g35 and 37, this can make z1 very big
Someone just swapped a VR30 into a 350z for 4000$ spent so far. Has been on it's first Dyno, Just needs a better fuel pump and a few more wiring things and it's finished
VR30 crate engine probably sells for 8-12K, a manual maybe another 1K, once you include labor you're probably looking at 15-18K. But It really doesn't make any sense, you could just turbo/super charge your current VQ motor and make similar power for less money. I love this car but it really doesn't make sense on paper, Nissan needs to hurry up and just sell this car.
BigHeadClan thanks man but honestly I’d just get the motor from a wrecked q60 for much less and a de is kinda unreliable to slap a twin turbo kit on without building the motor. Can I use the current manual trans I have now?
@@MadWilli It's not even clear if the VR30 motor would fit in a 350z. As far as I'm aware no one has even attempted a swap to a 350z. The FM platform had a fair number of revisions in 08-9 and the VQ37 engine is slightly larger than than 3.5L DE/HR motors that came before and based on my talks with Z1 the VR30 is a bit larger still. The same can be said for the transmission, but I imagine some type of adapter plate could be created.
@@MadWilli Don't be afraid to be the "First" VR30 swapped 350z. Get with a trusted performance shop in your town that is well versed on the VQ platform, and plan accordingly. Like the gentleman stated before me, there is likely an adapter plate that can be made for the transmission. Best of luck to you!
Yes yes yes lol, when I asked the question in the other video people said it wouldn't make sense to put the 3.0 swap into a car that had a 3.7 well he just explain all the issues they had and it does make sense. That's why it's always good to ask questions for the people that try to shut me down in the last video. Now you know.
For those of you who wanna see people attempt this swap Noir.TM is almost done with his, and I will be doing this to my G35 in a few months on my channel
I started to look into this months back when the Orange one came out at sema. The only reason why I stopped looking into it was because the turbos are integrated with the manifolds and there are currently no turbo upgrade kits for this engine so youre limited to maybe mid to high 400s (whp) with tuning. Maybe Z1 plans to come up with upgraded turbo kits? You also have to modify your transmission bell housing to accept the clutch from the q60 sport and then ofcourse theres wiring issues to conquer. At this point the only point to do this swap is to have a clean oem like turbo Z but again currently you can make more power easier with the VHR Turboed. As a dedicated track car it probably does run cooler longer. Perhaps its because the intercoolers are water to air and dont sit in front of the radiator.
Any idea how much it would be to swap vr30 into a 240sx? I have a q50 and just bought an s13... Was thinking to do a Rb25 or 26 with 370z transmission... but see vr30 on ebay for 5-6k... Wondering how difficult it may be..
Great job Z1... Making Georgia great for nissan cars and there showmanship. I'm the guy with fx45 that calls you guys all the time for some v8 answers lol. Keep up the great work.
Little side note I got a custom 370z bumber light on my fx45. It strobes and its detachable if I need to haul like trailer or something. You guys motivate me to be creative!!!!
@@allenc1091 flywheel and clutch are custom, no production parts are available. At this point it would be cheaper to build and boost your VQ than VR swap it, and you'll make way more power.
Great video guys! i own a 370 and love it.. fun to drive.. even as a stock car. i took my Z out to the desert in 100 degree heat and it was definitely heating up the car.. no problems though
Yep, Also, be prepared for the next Z to be based on the new Mercedes SLK or the C class coupe. Those bean counters are going to copy Toyota. The 370Z will be the last "true" Z.
@@conradsealy9603 What really!!?! That's good news! I'm glad they did. Now they need to work on getting all the French out of the company. #makenissangreatagain
@@sharpemang here is the Carbuzz article. Its over a year old. I had to do some back tracking to find it. Lol. carbuzz.com/news/the-2019-nissan-400z-will-have-twin-turbo-v6-with-up-to-476-hp
@@sharpemang as for getting the French out of Nissan? I agree with that 100%. There are millions of people that would like to see that happen. Me included. Lol.
Even though I'm an fx45 guy... I wouldn't mind doing this swap on mines. Oh yeah go ahead and drop one in a fx35 or even an ex35!!! The ex with a vr30 could be the new subbie killer lol. Again great job!!!
Definitely a cool swap and something different, but if that vq37 was constantly overheating, why wouldn’t the vr30 not overheat..? I think after sometime you may start to experience some overheating issues with the vr30, but then again a vented hood helps a bit to release some heat but the 370z engine bay does seem tight
Seems like it would be cheaper to build the engine that it already has, why would you want to go to 3.0l from 3.7l plus all the modding to bolt it to the 6 speed and rewiring, just buy an old 300zx and build it instead bcz its already everything this is. I'll give it a 👍for the cool factor but in the long run its not worth the effort.
