I think Bobrovsky really helped the Panthers in this series, but the guys in front of him worked really hard to get those wins, so it's not a steal or anything like that. However the Leafs do have the upper hand in "passive stats" such as time spent in adversary zone, faceoffs won, etc. and the hits are actually only slightly in favor of Florida last time I checked. So it comes back to Bobrovsky being the old Bobrovsky who made his name in the NHL, and Panthers being focused on finishing their plays instead of creating them. I think the Leafs shouldn't panic in the mid-season because the team they have now is nearly fully stacked. They have very young goalies still but they are very promising. However I think it all goes down to the Nylander issue. If they had traded Nylander instead of waiting for his contract to expire and ultimately signing him for a huge amount of money, they probably would be able to afford two solid D-men both sharing half of what Nylander is worth now. This would've made the team much more stable defensively. They already had Matthew and Marner, Nylander was too much in terms of high paid forwards. So this is probably going to be one of the reasons why Dubas is not returning.

Leafs were losing in round 2, no matter who they played. Tampa didn't show up, making Toronto look far, far better than they actually were. The Leafs aren’t nearly tough enough for the playoffs, play sloppily in their own end, and didn’t retaliate when their fine American rookie got taken out behind the goal. I think the Panthers figured out right there that their opponents were cream puffs. Would they defeat Boston? No way. The Bruins had balanced scoring through their lineup and they are tough. The Leafs need to overhaul their forwards. Marner is crafty but he’s 160 lbs soaking wet. I saw a Panther d-man lean on him and Marner disappeared. Nylander is a finesse player but he’s not robust enough in the corners. The effort was there but he’s not built for that.Matthews: a gifted player but weak in his own zone. Finally, Florida has 15 Canadians in their line-up = gritty. And Paul Maurice is out coaching Sheldon Keefe.

All the games have been pretty close, one goal (minus the empty net 4-2 in game 1). Bobrovsky is the difference maker. That and the tax rates that will forever plague the NHL. Stamkos takes home more money at 8.5mil a year then Tavares does at 11mil (keep in mind all NHL players are payed in US dollars) because of the tax difference between Ontario and Florida. There have been American teams to complain about it as well because it varies from state to state, and Florida effectively has a 13 million dollar advantage in terms of salary cap.
