"Why are Americans geography so bad?" Genuine answer: From elementary to highschool, I only learned about about two other places besides the US: Canada and Europe. And we only learned about each for about a week in 7th grade before moving on. I only know more than like 3 European countries because I took it upon myself to learn and memorize them all. And I can only name like 2 Canadian provinces off the top of my head. Geography was not a big focus at all lmao.

As an American, I must admit we suck at Geography bc we are indeed too busy hiding under our desks. Well, when I was school, it was more 💣 threats than 🔫 threats until about high school. Kidding, but I'm a millennial, graduated in 2008, and the last time we actually had to memorize any maps was in middle school, about year 7. After that it's always all filled in, and take that for granted. Though we aren't all as dense as some of the people on Omegle, 😅. That was bad, bad. A lot of us hate that our country refuses to ban that toxic crap in our food and drink, like most European countries. Those foods here that don't have those harmful products are significantly more expensive...and then we have the issue of food deserts in America. It's a massive shame.

My son's went to school in the US, and the little bit of geography was primarily just the US. Many Americans can't even tell you their own geography. I'm from Canada, and I've met people who don't know where Canada even is.

Yeah I think the fact that the 48 contiguous states are more like their own little countries and the United States is huge, causes some confusion when you try to think of the different levels of state/country/continent. Plus Europeans are wayyy more familiar with a lot of countries and cultures since there is a lot more travel between countries in Europe. Those real experiences help ingrain the knowledge so if feels obvious and second nature. Alot if Americans can’t afford to visit other states very often, let alone other countries. On top of that, our only neighboring countries are Mexico and Canada and European countries are often referred to as “Europe” or the EU.

When i got geography i was in private school but i only got geography once in 6th grade and we only got to asia and parts of europe and because there was no state testing, it didn’t matter i’m in high school now and i’m in a program where the rest of my classes are planned out for me and i don’t have to option to take geography until senior year, over the summer, or until college
