Fun fact. While Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron did not get along well on set, their stunt doubles did. They fell in love while filming Max and Furiosa's fight scene, and production of Fury Road took so long that their first child was born before the movie even got into theaters.

Also, a lot of people think that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy still have bad blood or that one was more in the wrong than the other. But they have both showed and stated an immense amount of respect for one another and admitted that there was no way, under those production circumstances, that things between them would not have gotten ugly. I think Hardy even gave her a self-portrait and wrote something on it along the lines of "You're a nightmare to be on set with, you're also fucking awesome." When you go through that sort of punishing and intense production with someone, there's no way you can't realize their value and dedication to their craft and learn to move past any bad blood. This film never should have happened and never should have been such a masterpiece, but a large group of people who love what they do made it work.

That love story with stunt people reminds me of another fun fact: Riley Keough who plays the red haired fugitive bride in Fury Road is Elvis’s granddaughter. She met her husband on this movie. It was her very first work on an action movie (she did the editing on documentaries, Happy feet and Babe 2 before that) and Miller did her do it for that very reason Since then, she also edited 3000 years of longing and Furiosa

100%. Piggybacking off of this, this movie is one of the best examples I can think of for "show, don't tell" when it comes to story on the screen. We as the audience don't get a ton of explicit explanation or exposition from the characters about the world, society, or history of the Wasteland but we pick up on a lot of it straight away just thanks to the visuals.

@carteljameson8395
@carteljameson8395 4 месяца назад
Here's the thing about this movie. It's actually the third act of a larger story that the director came up with in the late 90s. That's why it's 95% action scenes. The first two acts are about Furiosa and Max before the events in this movie. But they decided to film the third act first because they thought it had the best chance of making money. The new Mad Max movie about Furiosa releasing in a couple of days is one of the first two acts. It took longer than usual to make because Miller had a dispute with Warner Bros. He wants to make the next movie about Max and so you'll be able to watch all three as one epic story. That was the original intent anyways.

In regards to your question about how older people could possibly survive…. In the Mad Max series, it’s implied that nuclear war took place in combination with climate change to produce this post apocalypse world. People who were alive and well before the nuclear bombs were dropped (over 50+ years of age at this time of the movie) are actually MORE likely to be healthy and survive longer than those who have been born after and have absorbed the pollution and radiation. That’s why the War Boys (the majority of who are under 30 years of age, likely) are called ‘half life’ because they die younger. Nux himself, who has Max as a blood bag to give him healthy blood, is likely suffering from some sort of blood or bone cancer. The tumors they also sport, such as Ace’s neck tumors (the guy hanging off the side of the War Rig before he’s thrown off) and Nux’s Barry and Larry, come from the same reason. Meanwhile Max is called a ‘full life’ because he shows no signs of cancer or sickness and is generally strong. To illustrate this difference between the ages and amount of toxins absorbed, there’s a perfect example. There’s a deleted scene showing a closer look at the people who were trying to climb up on the platform to go up to the Citadel. There’s a mother who tries to volunteer her infant child to become one of the War Pups, the young children who are trained to become War Boys, but the child has the same tumors shown as the sickest people. The child is refused and tossed back to her, while she is accepted because she can produce the ‘Mother’s Milk’. She’s the figure you can see standing in the middle of the platform. It just goes to show that those who are older in this world shouldn’t be counted out and are actually generally more healthy than the younger people. That’s why there’s so much emphasis placed on healthy babies.
@ruud9761
@ruud9761 4 месяца назад
That's all great. However the half-lifes are seen to be "taken care of" while the older people are seen to live on barely anything and fighting for the scraps. It's great that they have "healthy" body, but they are still severely malnourished, and barely got any water. Even if their bodies aren't riddled with cancers, they are still weak and many should be starving.

What I've learned from this movie is that on Fury Road, you only need 1 thing... A BADASS set of bolt cutters. First Max used bolt cutters to get free of Nux, then later used bolt cutters on the harpoons shot by the drag cars to slow them down, thus letting them escape. Without the bolt cutters, they never would have made it past that point and would have been overrun.

George Miller was trained as a medical doctor and worked in an emergency room for many years. It was to cope with the aftermath of horrible road accidents and whatnot that he would see every time he was on duty that inspired him to make the first “Mad Max.” By all accounts Miller’s a lovely, empathetic, deeply caring man who’s always concerned with everyone around him. One story I heard from “Furiosa” had Anya Taylor Joy repeatedly shocking Miller with her fucked up ideas for stuff. Anya said Miller would react to something she suggested by saying, “Anya, that is SO violent and disturbing! How on earth do you think of such things??” to which Anya would sort of gesture to all the fucked up stuff around her on set and say, “Bro.” 😅😅😅😅

the director George Miller (one of the goats) is not actually a director. He is a real life doctor worked in ER's and his time in the ER directly lead to him with friends going off and shooting a indie movie, which was the first Max movie. I think often its the fact that he has no training outside of first hand experience that elevates his work. because as he put it "My job as a director is to have a vision in my head of what I want the audience to see, I then have to show the audience what I see, not tell them with words." Miller may not be the greatest of all time but he will always be my personal favorite. The man has never missed every film is amazing that he does but he does not do many he is very picky he has to see it in his head or he wont touch it. He has also made some movies you may have seen or enjoyed as children. He made Babe (you know pig in the city, "That will do pig that will do") he also made Happy Feet (yes the dancing penguin movie) so let that sink in. The man that made some of the best family films of all time started with the franchise that has mastered what I like to call "Beautiful Chaos". after the upcoming Furiosa movie he has stated he has 3 other max films already in his head and ready to go. Keep in mind there are 3 other max films before these ones. originally max was played by Mel Gibson. These movies are also shot from different perspectives and this is on purpose. so what I mean is the very first Mad Max movie is the only one that max is the one telling the story its from his point of view. In this movie Fury Road it was from Furiosa point of view, her tale, a legend if you will of when she encountered the Road Warrior Max and how he helped them for him to once again vanish into the wasteland a legend a myth that maybe one day will return again. and one last bit of the incredible symbolism of George Miller who is also the writer of these films. Imortant Joe represents the horseman of famine keeping the water for himself so nothing could grow. Bullet Farmer was the horseman of war Gas Town guy was the horseman of Pestilence (plague) look at him so nasty. but Max he is the 4th horseman the horseman of Death because it follows him no matter where he goes, and Furiosa won the day, why? BECAUSE DEATH WAS ON HER SIDE.
@srahhh
@srahhh 3 месяца назад
I think maybe Max didn't want to share his name because he was refusing to form any more attachments, especially with people he perceived as vulnerable; he couldn't handle any more ghosts of the people he failed to save calling out to him with it. So by deliberately telling her his name at that moment, when she truly was close to death, he was finally committing to pursuing his own redemption, and choosing to stop running from the dead in life.

Mad Max is a media franchise created by George Miller and Byron Kennedy. It centers on a series of post-apocalyptic and dystopian action films. The franchise began in 1979 with Mad Max, and was followed by three sequels: Mad Max 2 (1981, released in the United States as The Road Warrior), Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) and Mad Max: Fury Road (2015); Miller directed or co-directed all four films. Mel Gibson portrayed the title character Max Rockatansky in the first three films, while Tom Hardy portrayed the character in Mad Max: Fury Road.

I love Fury Road so much, that I saw it about 9 times in theaters, each time to take someone new to see it. The experience in the theater was unmatched. The new movie, Furiosa, is so flippin' good, I highly highly recommend it! It has a very different tone and structure, but feels similar to the older Mad Max movies in a lot of ways.

If you can believe it, the director of this film, George Miller, also directed Babe: a Pig in the City. My favorite in the Mad Max series is still the 2nd on, released as The Road Warrior in the states and Mad Max 2 everywhere else. But don’t get me wrong, I do like Fury Road a lot. Tom Hardy did a great job honoring what Mel Gibson did with the role all those years ago while still making it his own.

The Raid is pretty cool, but it most certainly does not make Fury Road look amateurish. It simply does for claustrophobic hand-to-hand combat what Fury Road does for car chases- it’s a perfected, maximal example of the concept.

Max said "Hope is a mistake..." He was saying, placing your hope that there is something better out there, is a mistake. "If you don't fix what's wrong, you'll just go insane." The Citadel is the green place, it should be home and it is home. If you don't fix what's wrong at home you'll just wander around not knowing what to do until you lose track of your mind. Resolve the issues at home and then you may leave without burden weighing your footsteps. Hope is a mistake. Doing right is better than hoping. It will be a hard day. But if you run away, out there there's nothing but salt.

You’ll hear it during the scene where the war boys go and get the steering wheels off that Christmas tree like display of unique wheels “by my deeds I honor him; V8!” And they do the hand thing. One of the rare times that the Oscars nominated an action flick for Best Picture but what people who thought it was just an action movie didn't see it for what it was -- a singular vision from one of the best directors of our time -- George Miller.

The director, George Miller, is responsible for all the mad max movies - AND Babe and Happy Feet. Immortan Joe had only two children - the sons Rictus (the big guy) and Corpus Colossus (the little disabled guy with the telescope). Joe has the "breeders" because he's trying to breed healthy children for himself out of the radiation. The war boys are just boys who have different varieties of cancer, probably thyroid cancer, since radiation usually causes that cancer in children - hence their "half life".

17:03 the deal was off because it sounds like Furiosa promised that there'd be 'a few vehicles, maybe'. Basically. She'd be able to steal the fuel and bring it to them without any fuss. Instead, like the bike guy said there's; 'three whole war parties'. So suddenly they have a massive fight on their hands one way or another, and the deal they had with Furiosa's off. So kill her and take the fuel anyway.
