I started playing sax in 2019 in my middle school band because my teacher wanted me to play a wind instrument (I only played piano at the time). I instantly fell in love with playing saxophone and would practice for atleast 3 hours a day. Now as a freshman I made wind ensemble (our top band) on tenor sax, and made it into the top jazz group as 2nd tenor!

In 2018, I picked up the alto sax while i was a 5th grader(yes i’m young) for the main reason was that I knew the sax was a big part in jazz, and loved jazz at the time(still do). Playing an instrument has gotten me through some tough times, and has made me more ambitious, with me now learning soprano sax. Playing the sax has been one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done in my life.

2014 my first day of middle school I chose to do orchestra and by some stroke of destiny my schedule was switched by accident and I got put in band. I didn’t even know what a saxophone was but I remember the cartoon character pizza Steve(from uncle grandpa) playing a “saxophone” so when I was asked what instrument to play by my band director I chose saxophone….and I got rejected and he have me a clarinet. However that didn’t stop me I continued and eventually made the switch and it was the best decision of my life because here I am now 7 years later a senior in high school where my whole life revolves around my saxophone that has given me the chance to meet so many amazing people and experience so many fun experiences. I plan on entering a career where hopefully I will be able to play my saxophone for the rest of my life because it is my happiness.

This is my third year playing alto for middle school. At the beginning of the school year I was actually thinking about quitting band, but my band teacher invited me to try playing tenor sax for our jazz band, so I tried and loved it. I tried playing jazz pieces on alto and loved that too. The swing and smooth sound of jazz made me want to never put down my sax(s). I just recently started learning trumpet. I have grown a huge passion for playing sax.

Technically I have been playing piano since I was 7 years old, (I'm turning eighteen soon :) I began in 2014 playing clarinet in middle school band. I went that for two years and then doubled playing tenor sax in our jazz band. Once I got into high school I primarily played tenor sax. I had a really good sax teacher and band director, plus an amazing upperclassmen who I still look up to today. They've all inspired me soo much to just grind and get really good. Because of them I have been nominated for Colorado University Honor Band my sophomore year and junior year. As well as Colorado State University Honor Band my Sophomore year. In sophomore year I was playing on an beginner level Bundy, which I also marched on. I think in middle school, everyone does band because they kinda have to. But once I got into high school the main reason I started playing was to improve my sound, (stemming from that inspiration) and also the amazing community. Not only the marching band community but the teachers and even your channel have made my saxophone journey so enjoyable. I am so proud to be a saxophonist. I have always wanted have my own alto sax to expand my musical and instrumental ability. I first heard about this saxophone on better sax's channel, then I saw your video and I was like omg I have to get this. Thank you so much for making amazing content, and helping me procrastinate all my homework :) This is too long haha.

I made it into wind ensemble 9th grade after only about a year and a half of playing and then transitioned to bari sax. I then started soprano just a couple months ago and I’m trying to look for a better horn than my current YAS-26 alto or my janky school owned soprano lmao. Hi! I just wanted to say sorry for how long this is. I started playing trumpet when I was 10 in 2014. I started because my dad found a free old trumpet in a yard sale. I was self taught. After 5th grade I kind of got bored of it because I was better than everyone else and the stuff was too easy for me. When I got to middle school in 7th grade, I switched to alto for jazz band. When I started learning alto I got hooked I loved learning new things and I caught on quick. I started playing all the written and improvised solos even if I didn’t know anything about changes and chords yet I just went at it and the jazz band called me “the beast” (I am a really short Mexican girl so that was funny) When I got to high school I wanted to buy my own alto and my mom got me an $180 alto from Amazon(it’s silver and it’s a beast) for my birthday. Sophomore year I was already alto 1 in jazz 1 with that saxophone. This is why I’m entering the giveaway! Good luck to everyone! I was taught growing up that it’s not about the equipment, it’s about how you use it. Even if I don’t win I hope the winner has fun and If you read this, have a blessed day❤️

I’ve played the oboe for 3 years now (Since 2019) and am recently beginning to learn the Saxophone in hopes of making it into the jazz band at my high school. I began playing and quickly realized my love for music, especially jazz. I searched, but found that it was quite hard to reach into that world as simply an oboist. After watching your channel for many months now, I feel prepared to begin a great journey with the Saxophone. Right now I’ve just been borrowing my friend’s saxophone using my own beginner mouthpiece, ligature, and of course reeds.

Then, 3 months ago, my band director put me on Bari for jazz band.

I started playing alto around 2018, as my mom wanted me to get into music. I wasn't fond of it at all for a very long time, until the pandemic hit. I had always known that jazz existed, but outside of the Christmas big band arrangements, I had never listened to jazz. During the height of the pandemic, I practiced for 4-5 hours a day every single weekday and often the same on weekends if I had the urge. Jazz has completely changed me, from the way I listen to music, the way I perceive art, and even how I think. It really helped me through everyone's current situaton and I hope to keep evolving with my horn and becoming the best p layer possible. Sorry for the rant, as always, love your content!

A few years ago, as my son was getting into 6th grade beginners band, he wanted to play the alto saxophone. I did allot of research that kept leading to Jean Paul and their AS-400 student alto saxophone. I decided to buy it. My son played it through the 6th and 7th grade and he loved it. This year, he was told to upgrade to a professional saxophone. I thought of Jean Paul first so I decided to buy the new AS-860 10th Anniversary edition. He says it's much better with smoother, quicker responsiveness, nicer tone quality and he says it just feels better in his hands. He said he'll be more then happy with this saxophone for years to come. This is a great, very beautiful instrument and sounds so amazing. Oh yea, and they have a professional sax technician check and set up every single sax they send out and email your technicians sound check of your instrument. Great customer service as well. Thank you Jean Paul! Very satisfied with this purchase.

I started playing the saxophone in the second semester of my sixth grade year, 2016-2017 school year, because the saxophone was always an instrument that has spoken to me as a beautiful instrument with such a unique and melodic voice and it's been my getaway ever since. I've loved every second playing the saxophone and thanks to the enjoyment and experiences I've been given from you and other saxophonists alike, I have become the state-renowned saxophonists that I am thanks to you guys! Fast forward to now, unfortunately, my alto isn't so well and it doesn't even play anymore so I'm borrowing somebody else's until I can get one of my own, but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. Even if All-State and All-State Jazz auditions are but two weeks away, this horn would be a miracle to win and I would absolutely love to be the winner if I am! Thank you for all you do and keep releasing amazing, and more importantly entertaining videos!

I felt like music allowed me to truly express myself and show who I really am, and in late 2020, I started playing bass clarinet along with soprano clarinet. I love its beautiful sound and the way it feels when I play. Bass clarinet inspired me to push further with learning more instruments, and I even got second place in all-region a few weeks ago, placing me into wind ensemble. But me wanting to play saxophone really started this year when I started getting into making my own music and starting to love jazz. I joined my middle school jazz band and have had so much fun with it. I never thought I would be a musician when I was younger, but getting into music has made me such a happier person, and I want to pursue in my music career further by learning to play more instruments, and saxophone is at the very top of the list.

I then decided to join band in the second semester of that year and became hooked with the saxophone. My parents and band directors were patient with me catching up to everybody else in the band. A few years later, I made the TMEA 6A All-State band my sophomore year. I continued to make the All-State band my junior and senior year. I am now a freshman in college as a pre-med student. My passion for playing saxophone has not gone anywhere and I can't wait to keep playing more saxophone.

i started playing sax the second semester of my 6th grade year. I originally wanted to go with clarinet but something abt the sax spoke to me. I’m now a junior in highschool and last year my alto was stolen straight out of our bandhall and then i missed the texas all state band by one chair because my low b flat didn’t speak💀. I later found out it’s bc i’m playing a basically scrap metal right now so a new alto would definitely benefit me.

I started playing saxophone in the fall of 2014, which was my first year of middle school. I wanted to be involved in extra curricular activities. I wasn't that good at sports and I loved music, so I decided to be in band. I played the saxophone through out middle school and high school. This is my first year in college and I decided to major in business and not music. I haven't played in a few months and I've been looking for an opportunity to play again. Thanks for doing this giveaway and I would mean the world to me if I won this giveaway!

2017. I grew up around a musical family so I had the sound of music from a very young age. I started playing Alto Saxophone in 7th grade for a year until I wanted to play Bari in 8th grade. In my 8th-9th grade summer I didn't have a way to play baritone sax so my grandma bought me an Antigua Vosi 2150 Alto. Im now a senior in high school and plan to play till I die.

It all started in 2016 when I went to go choose what instrument I was going to play for band in 6th grade - high school. I then played the alto saxophone at the instrument fitting, and I fell in love with it; therefore, I chose to play alto sax. My dad was happy with my decision because he played alto in high school as well. Once we got home from the event, he pulled out his old, dusty, Yamaha alto sax that he had bought by himself when he was younger. I still use that old, beautiful instrument today for marching, concert, plus solo & ensemble bands!

I started playing saxophone in 5th grade now I’m a sophomore in high school. The saxophone imo is the best instrument you could possibly play. I have always loved the saxophone and everyday I practice for more than 2 hours. I’m improved so much that I’m now playing 1st alto in my jazz band and I have 2 solos in the jazz band concert!

I started to play trumpet around 2018 with my uncle because I was going into high school and my middle school did not have a band class, and I wanted to marching band. About a month in to practicing, I realized that braces and a small mouth piece go together like cold butter and un-toasted bread. I switched to the trombone and have since then stuck with trombone occasionally switching to other low-brass instruments. I have recently made the discovery that alto-sax sheet music and bass clef sheet music are basically the same, you just have to squint your eyes a little, and so I am now attempting to start a new chapter in music by switching to the saxophone family.

I started playing alto saxophone in 2017, but around half-way through the year, I had to quit (I took lessons for it while in school). I quit because I got my tumor removed off of my knee which I had for about 6 years. When I came back from the surgery to class about a week later, I felt very overwhelmed. It seemed as if my class learned an extreme amount, and I didn't feel like I could do it anymore. Ever since then, I've regretted that decision. I now play piano and have been for about 2 months, but I love the sound of a saxophone. I ask my parents if I can get one, and they say no- because I play piano & quit saxophone those man years ago. To me, this saxophone would truly make me very happy. I love music, and having this instrument again will bring me back to those days, when I was young and felt like I could do anything. Just seeing this opportunity to win it made me feel happy. Continue to do what you do, your content is awesome. Overall, I really hope I win the horn, but if I don't, then awesome job to whoever gets it!

I started playing alto saxophone this year in marching band. I always knew I needed to learn how to play the sax as I was a oboe and never picked up the sax. The first day I played the sax something magical happened and I fell for the sax. Although I was not great at the instrument I learned the basics into the 4th week. As we moved through the season I learned more that the songs but also other etudes and was getting better than the other saxophonist that have been playing for 3 years. It took multiple hour’s and perseverance but soon my hart was with the sax now and hope to bring it to the next level as the practicing continues.

I began my musical journey on the saxophone at the age of 11 in 1968 (Yep! I'm old!), after having spent a couple of years playing the violin in elementary school. My grandfather and my granduncles were all professional musicians who worked with several of the orchestras in the "big band era" and I chose the saxophone as my instrument of choice, primarily as a result of the incredible influence that my grandpa had on me and out of the love and respect that I had for him. My father was (and still is) a collector of great music. I grew up listening to Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Donald Byrd, Cannonball Adderley, Maynard Ferguson, and so many more jazz greats. As a teen fresh out of high school, I was invited to share the stage with the late greats Clark Terry and Frank Rossolino. I began college with the intent to be a music instructor.... That ended once I began student teaching as an understudy to my former band director and I realized that I didn't have the temperament required to deal with disruptive teenage students, so I began focusing more on performance. I've been blessed with more opportunity than I rightfully deserve, but the experiences that music has presented me with over the years have enriched my life to a degree that I cannot convey through words. I found this video purely by accident, today.... but, man, what a blessing watching it has been! I absolutely LOVE hearing young talent such as that displayed by the young musicians in this video. They have both clearly done their woodshedding and devoted the time necessary to develop their chops. Bravo, bravo, bravo! Best points to take from this video? (1) There are incredible instruments out there which are fully capable of allowing a talented musician to showcase his or her talents without putting your parents into great debt! Over the years, I've owned MK VI's which played wonderfully and I've played others which were outright "dogs"! Old horns wear out over time and, in many cases, there are not always adequate parts available to replace them with. NEVER purchase an older horn without playing personally and having your trusted sax tech inspect the instrument before committing to the sale! NOT ALL SELMERS, YAMAHAS, KEILWERTHS, are worth the thousands of dollars people are asking for them. (2) While there are a lot of instruments being imported from China, Taiwan, and South Korea, some of these instruments play quite well, despite their low price tags. That fact is clearly proven in this video! A musical who sounds great on a Selmer MK VI will likely sound just a great on any well regulated sax he picks up, given the same mouthpiece/reed combination. While there are many great videos comparing instruments available on the web, this is one of the first I've watched which feature young players proving this fact. I'm grateful to have found this page. I've subscribed and I'm looking forward to more great videos from you in the future. Keep on keeping on, little brother. You have a great future lying in wait. God Bless and best wishes. Oh! WHY do I play, now? I play for Jesus!

Im in 9th grade, so this is my fourth year of playing clarinet. I started playing my instrument in 6th grade and I became pretty solid at the clarinet. For some reason, I always thought the clarinet was the easiest instrument to play out of all the instruments that were provided in my school and to this day, I still think that. As I keep playing my clarinet, I'm starting to feel a little bored and tired from playing an instrument that's easy and less complex than other instruments. I've been thinking about switching instruments and sections in my band class. I've been talking to a couple of people in different sections and the saxophone section in my class has caught my attention. I've now become good friends with them and their starting to convince me to join their section. I'm leaning towards switching to alto sax but my school has ran out of saxophones to play and my parents can't afford an expensive or at least a mediocre one. I hope i can win this giveaway to join the sax section, learn a new instrument, and have provide a challenge for myself.

hey so i play alto and i just wanted to say that yes as fun as alto is, i don’t think it is any harder. if anything, it’s easier and there is more competition because there’s more altos than there are clarinets. If you wanted to switch to another harder instrument, i would suggest maybe a brass instrument, or if you wanted you could switch to bass clarinet which i don’t know a lot about but it’s definitely different from the regular clarinet. you should do some research on other instruments before deciding to switch because from what i can tell, you want something harder, and i don’t think that alto is going to be harder. just wanted to try and help you out

Yo these are crazy affordable horns. I haven't tried playing sax since I borrowed my friend's for a few weeks in highschool (I was able to kind of play Careless Whisper in that time). What I really wanted to learn at the time tho was bari after hearing Ronnie Cuber on that recording of Mingus' Moanin. I first picked up trumpet in the elementary band program like ~2003. I thought it was cool when the highschool band would do their show and tell every year for the elementary school kids and the trumpet player would do the Final Fantasy victory fanfare. Also I didn't want to play clarinet like my older siblings and thought 3 buttons would be easy lol.

I started clarinet when I was 12 years old in 2013. The reason I started was initially because I just thought it would be fun to be in band and my dad happened to play clarinet in high school so I had a free instrument. I switched to tenor sax in 2015 so that I could join the jazz band and I absolutely fell in love. Somehow I knew that that's exactly what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. I started playing when I was 4, that's 32 years ago if my maths add up... I lost interest until I was about 10 years old, I was put in a Music Class in middle school. The first 2 weeks we sang, I hated it. Then we went from singing to orchestral string instruments. Hated it. Then, to Wind Instruments. I picked up the Clarinet and immediately fell in love. I've been playing the Clarinet for 26 years now. Along the way I mastered (somewhat mastered) the Saxophone, Bass (Electric & Upright), and Guitar. After meeting the clarinet, I picked up the piano again.

I’m a high school freshman who plays bassoon as my primary but in the band program at our school it’s mandatory to march and to be freaking honest it is the best thing ever. I’ve always wanted to play saxophone and didn’t get to as my family didn’t want to pay for instrument so I’ve used a school owned horn forever even my Tenor is school owned.
