wonderful video. can you please add a separate video about how to plan for the trip, food, selfdrive car, migration season. as a kid have watched this annual migration of wildebeest in discovery and national geographic. would love to make a trip at my own pace you you guys did. Thanks in advance.
How about where you camped...do they have electricity or showers? Where did you buy groceries? Are there plenty of petrol stations? Thank you for the video!
Hi Gregor, I would like to know pros and cons of self drive vs packaged safaris. If self drive, how to find game, fees to pay, booking camping sites, general safety, how not to be stupid, lol.
Wow Gregor, nice work. So fun to see your adventures. Thank you for sharing and perhaps our roads cross again in one of the other roadtrip destinations
thanks, we didnt drive ourselves after dark. There where maintenance guys there and they spotted the lion and told us to jump into their vehicle. we had little over the driving. so not so bad after all for self entitled Europeans :)
Amazing! Thanks for sharing! I am also planning a self drive safari and would be curious to know more about all logisitc required and if you have advice to share? Thanks!
very nice video. Thanks for sharing. There are lots of videos about self driving in Namibia and Botswana, but in Tanzania it's very rare to see. on that topic, one thing I'd like to have seen was how were the camps, their structure and facilities, and how did you manage things like food, toilet, etc
yeah afterwards we thought the same thing! should have filmed more of the 'boring' stuff. I thought about making a "how to plan your self drive safari video" where I cover all that stuff
I am from Tanzania and love self drive within the country. I can help where to get your answers if you are planning a self drive in Tz, you can rent my truck too. Welcome to Tanzania
Looks like an amazing experience. Epic and romantic! May I ask what you spent per day on food lodging, entrance fees etc? I would think self supported travel would allow for more solitude and flexibility versus hiring a guide?
Hi Gregor, Many Thanks for this very useful video. We are planning to go on a self drive ourselves later this year to Tanzania. I was wondering if you could share some insights with us. How did you find a reliable rental company ? How did you pay for gas ? (Cash (USD ?) or Credit Card) ? Where did you camp in the Serengeti ? At a predefined camp site, or just randomly ? Note: In case you are German, please feel free to answer in German. I can perfectly read it, but not write it.
We are planning for Serengeti, can you please suggest the lesser costly camp sites and the entry fee for vehicle (LC) and for you? This would be of help to us, thanks
Haha youre welcome. No I dont have a Blog. I can tell you what I know: You are NOT allowed into Serengeti or Ngorongoro with a Rab 4 but you are ALLOWED into Tarangire. I would still double check this fact with the Rental Company, just to be safe. The Road from Arusha to Tarangire was mostly well maintained highway. Only the last hour or so (when you turn off from the highway) it gets bumpy. Also the national park itself is not paved of course.
Why Toyota Rab 4??. Most common adventurous vehicles here are Land cruisers as @lorenzo used and land rover defenders as my truck at my channel. Within those two you will drive comfortably, and most roads are accessible.
because there are only two of us and the height of the wheels from the ground is the same but the rental price is 3 times higher and I don't need a house, because I will stay in small hotel
thanks! if I remember correctly it was about 2400 euros for 14 Days with camping gear and a rooftop tent! IF you do rent from them let them know you came from me, maybe I'll get a discount next time haha
Seems people like self drive eeeh!!?. Welcome to Tanzania @lorenzo. I prefer self driving too and my truck is customized for camping purposes. Karibu Tanzania
