The problem was the Prussians (Baltic people), who attacked the northern areas of Masovia. It was a time of division of Poland's districts. Each region of Poland was ruled by a prince from the Piast dynasty. Masovia was ruled by Prince Konrad I of Masovia. It was he who gave the Teutonic Knights the Chełmno land (1226) in exchange for fighting against Prussia. And so the problems began, first for Mazovia, Pomerania, and then for the entire country.

6:40 well Rob, actualy, that siege back in 1410 after Grundwald failed to take the castle... Malbork was in Teutonic hands up to: 1457. Casmir the IV (who eventualy took it from Teutons) was the son of Władisław II (Jagiełło) who crushed Teutons at Grunwald... these 2 events were almost 50 years apart ;)

Hello, I have never been on a trip to Malbork because I know everything you said from history lessons and such a trip is boring for us. However, I was at the castle in Malbork and in all places inaccessible to tourists because you can go counting bats once a year with hyropterologists. I am a biologist and throughout my studies I went to count sleeping bats in caves, ruins and castles, and in Malbork they gave us the keys and no one watched us. Only once did we need the help of museum workers when we descended on ropes to the well in the courtyard to count the bats that were on the walls and in the wall cracks of the well.

You had to stand on a train? Nowadays this happens only when you buy a ticket for a train with all seats sold out (by which I mean that despite the lack of seats you decide to take that train anyway and buy a ticket; it grants you the trip, but no seat) or when the ticket selling computer system and the crew which assembled the train are not on the same page (e.g. they use a car with compartments which have 6 seats instead of 8 and it's your seat or compartment that's missing or they don't attach your car at all - happened to me once). Glad you liked the castle!

@@CharlieandRob on British TV or Polish TV? As a private producer selling your films to various broadcasters? Actually, I used to watch a program about interesting places in Poland hosted by some black foreigner on Polish TV. His films were more focused on local culture and traditions than architecture, but it was quite interesting to watch a black guy speaking Polish with a strong foreign accent talking about local artists in some Polish remote villages. I do not watch TV any more so don't know if this program is still broadcast/ Now I watch YT channels only. I wonder when you visited. A train that full is not normal. Was it an end of a long weekend (Sunday) with people returning from the seaside? And the train was probably heading for Warsaw or Olsztyn.
