We saw that TFL broke their new Tacoma 2024 on this trail in Colorado, so we had to try it out! We have a 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road in a long bed, making this trail a little more difficult for us. Our 2024 Tacoma is on stock tires, wheels, and suspension. This trail that TFL went on is called Iron Clads in Colorado. Iron Clads is rated a 5 out of 10 on the difficulty scale, which they recommend a lifted vehicle since the trail has larger rocks and off-camber obstacles.

Worst part about that Fiasco was.. and seriously think about this.. Theirs broke and they are "famous"(as far as youtube and reviews go) so they had a factory "in" and they were running a GoPro. Imagine if that was Me, You just some guy/gal reading this that that happened to while you were just out off roading and you were not a youtuber and were NOT running a GoPro..Id bet a LOT of $$ Toyota would blame YOU for the breakage and then charge you and then sweep the breakage under the rug as to avoid bad publicity... Id put the % odds that your chosen to be liable for the damage and warranty wont cover it at 90% your fault 10% shot for them to cover it under warranty.. And im not picking on Toyota here this is all makers. Their brand new truck blows up and you are not famous and no video going when it happens.. they pin it on you and avoid bad press.. they couldnt in this case because they had proof..

TFL got the Truck with a faulty part in the front Diff. Nothing TFL did should had broken any Truck.

@@ReelNewwt it was a manufactured issue They explained that the front diff has a safe kill switch. That is made to break to avoid a major damage. And the little valve that make that happen failed.

It would be a real pleasure to see at least somebody take one of these on those trails with genuine off road tires so we could see what the truck is actually capable of and not what the tires are holding back.

Then it would DEFINITELY break. There actually WOULD be a load on the front diff. It can't even stay in one piece on slippery rocks with pizza slicers.

No, you should drive what they sold you. You shouldn’t have to pay even more than what these allready cost. All reviews should be done stock.

Good Comparison Shoot-Out, glad it stay together for you guys! it's funny how some situations can change drastically over one test to another. It's a nice truck, but looks to have some areas that need addressing, tires, lack of proper skid plates etc...its a good platform, but does not look to be showroom to trail ready!

I think it was much colder and more frozen when TFL did their roll. Still, you spun your wheels quite a bit like they did.

These are actually very good looking trucks. it is the first body style of the tacoma that i think actually looks masculine. I wouldn't keep it stock height though, i'd immediately lift it 6" and throw on some 37's. this new engine has enough power and torque to turn 37's. My only concern is the weak front differential.

I’ve got a buddy who also has a 23 TRD Off Road with the 6’ bed. As soon as our snow melts we’ll be taking our trucks off roading. He has an inch more height than mine so it’ll be interesting. Another buddy of mine has a 19 Tacoma TRD Off Road, but he has a 5’ bed. We’ll be taking our trucks from Wenatchee, WA to Ellensburg on an overland trail this summer. On that trip, we’ll take our wives with us. My other friend who has a truck like mine, we’ll be going up in high country in the Cascades, but our wives don’t like to camp, so it’ll be a guys weekend. Might do some hiking and fishing as well.

Good thing yours didn't break. Unless you have a connection to Toyota like TFL it will take a long time and a lot of hassles to fix it.

No, my 2021 Taco front diff had engaging problems, fixed under warranty no problem at all.

It looks so much longer than the older Tacoma. I hope they improved the steering so it can turn better. A Dewalt (or whatever other flavor) air compressor works great for a portable solution.

This happens to every car manufacturer on its first model year on a new design vehicle. Personally I always buy the 3rd model year before mid cycle refresh. Better deal and most kinks workout.

I watch TFL for the entertaining hot takes and early car previews. While TFL certainly enjoys offroading, I don't really trust their technical knowledge. Their Tacoma breaking didn't influence me whatsoever.

I had a choice of a slightly used (6K miles) 23 or new 24 Tacoma TRD Off Road, Premium pkg with a 6’ bed. Ultimately I chose the 23, ONLY Because it has the 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) V6. I’ve had another Toyota with the 3.5 and my bf mother’s Lexus has the 3.5. They’ve proven themselves to be durable and reliable engines. I only drive 5-6K miles per year and at my age I plan on driving my 23 TRD for the rest of my life. I drove my first Toyota for 24 years. It was a 78 Corolla and it died in 02 with 488K miles. I then bought a new 02 Camry and when my needs changed in 11, I sold my Camry and bought a new Rav 4WD Limited with the 3.5 V6. I drove my Rav until 12/22 when I sold it and bought a new Subaru Forester Touring. My Forester was in the repair shop 85% of the time, so after 14 months of owning it, I happily traded it in on my 23 Tacoma.

the sound quality is nice. could hear the engine, foot steps, and just the little things. No stupid drama and music is nice. Could hear it was in low range or reving higher but going slow . TFL reminds me of early 2000s comedy show with a laugh track and cheap stupid music playing.

My opinion is that Toyota products are good it’s where there built Quality control is important you cannot compare US to Japan in Japan there build with pride here we just don’t build Japanese vehicles they just don’t care here we build American cars that’s why there mostly garbage it used to be good now look at the employees here they go to work in there own clothes flip flops in Japan strict rules they even wear hard hats and uniforms. Sad I still love my country through we’re lucky to have the strongest Military 🤙🏾🇺🇸

This proves absolutely nothing. Just because you guys didn’t have problem, doesn’t mean there isn’t one. And if that’s the “limit” then I’m not convinced or impressed. As much as these cost there shouldn’t be any such thing as a “faulty part”

The TFL video doesn't prove much either. They each represent one data point. In a population of thousands of vehicles there will surely be faulty parts no matter the vehicle cost. No one knows yet the root cause of the TFL failer. Faulty part or bad design? Time will tell.

Looks like it was probably a fluke. Time will tell. I feel like anyone buying a 1st year vehicle should just anticipate early failures. It seems to happen with most vehicles. Toyota definitely has a clear track record of having problems early on and improving with each year.

I think the biggest difference here is you have a rear locker with the TRD off road TFL has A SR5 and with out the rear wheel both being locked they are putting more stress on the front differential.

Toyota trucks. cost over 55K, waaaaaaaaay overkill, the interest on high score credit. 700 and up, it's 6%. $3000 plus registration fee $2400 and the dealer fee at lease $1500 they call it protection!!!! is toooooo much money for this truck with 4 Cyl not superpower for towing., also for Tandra, 70k too much for this cost, buy RAM or Seairra 1500, 1.9% interest. so, the main problem after the covid politic of Toyota changed as more pricy and high Interest.

Traction in snow did not impress me; however, will say that is the tires not necessarily the truck. (Hard to read but believe they say Firestone so lucky to not have the tire disintegrate as well as have poor snow traction.) As for explaining the long bed vs a short bed...it's called break over angle and the long bed will not be as good as a short bed. But still a Taco, so I'll give you a thumbs up, but no subscribe...don't have a Taco, never will have a Taco unless it is the last mid-size truck left in the world.

I was hoping this one failed too. I am not fond of how overpriced this truck has become. I wanted another tacoma, but i dont want to get flack for lifting a 4 banger. Ill continue to keep driving my 07 taco.
