Just a few points/Tips. To prevent scratching the glass, you can place a sheet of kitchen towel underneath the pan, it works perfectly. Secondly if using cast iron lower the temperature by at least half once you have braised your vegetables/browned your meat. Cast iron takes you to the next level of cooking and gets extremely hot, Dutch ovens perform the same on the hob, no need to put them in the oven, just set the temp to low. When boiling/steaming vegetables, monitor them because they will boil over, because the speed of boiling. Trust me I've got the T Shirt. Like all of your followers, love your shows. keep up the good work.
This is very sound advice - We went across to ironware with our change to induction back in 2010 and have never looked back - The somewhat expensive quality ironware is well worth it as each bit pays for itself in a matter of weeks.
You can buy silicone mats which are even better. Stops the pans slipping around, even cooler to the touch and stops scratching of the top. Also washable and therefore more environmentally sound. I have a four hob unit and I bought a 5 pack of silicone mats for very little money on Amazon.
You two deserve full credit you know. There are not many people out there who can boil a pint of water and make it as entertaining as you two do. Keep these videos coming - they make absolutely brilliant viewing.
We got an induction cooker 12 years ago - paid over 600 notes for it - Within 3 years it had more than paid for itself from the savings we made compared to our old electric hob. We are still using it and 12 years later we have NEVER had a problem with it - Wouldn't be without it. Combined with our new 15 in 1 foodi thanks to you two our kitchen has been fully revolutionised. Keep these videos coming - they are fantastic.
Same here. We moved house a year ago and the first thing I did was change the hob to an Induction hob. I love it. Its better and cleaner than a gas hob.
The savings we have made this year alone easily paid for our new 15 in 1 foodi and we were on an electric hob as we are 3 miles from the nearest gas pipeline here in rural North Devon. The savings compared to gas would be even more - easily into the upper hundreds per year. Using the foodi and not the electric oven beneath the induction hob will no doubt save us more still and boy is that foodi one hell of a piece of kit.
I've been using these since when they became available, maybe 15 years plus or so ago. Never bought the big expensive ones. The first ones were small portable single units, and I've stuck with that format because it works for me. About £30-40. The prices are now around £20-25. They don't last very long. Usually stops working after 2-3 years. Not repairable simply due to their prices. If I knew how to fix them, I'd do thay myself. But sending it to somebody to fix, costs more than getting a new one. I'm on #4 now. Might be simply due overheating. Now that we are more careful, the last one is about 5 years old. I still have 2 spoilt ones in the attic waitinh for the day I figure out how to fix them. The first one I left at the original manufacturer's service center. They wanted 2x the price of a new one to fix, or I had to pay a third of that as fees to diagnose/check the problem to get it back in a non-working state, or I leave it there and they cancel the bill. Presumably they'd use it for spare parts. I bought a different brand. It was only around £30. The advantage of using many small units rather than one large one that have 4 spots for 4 pots and pans is that (1) total costs are lower (2) no messing with repairs, if one spoils just replace it. Even in a third world country like mine, the equivalent of £20 isn't enough to cover a tech's costs to make the trip to my house. That is not considering labour and parts, and a likely second trip to bring the part, or take the whole thing back to his shop. And if he does that, I have nothing to cook with. (3) I can plug them into separate circuits. The pots wouldn't be next to each other, but I can run them all at max 1800kW simultaneously. There are 3 separate circuits in my kitchen, easily checked by flipping the switches at the fuse box one by one. (4) all the induction cooktops I have seen have lousy temperature control. Especially if you want to simmer something for a very long time at very low heat. My current one goes from 300W to 2000W, but below 800W it's actually pulsing the coil. Trouble is, it doesn't do this pulsing quickly, but very slowly. Like 10s on, and 20s off. If you have a very thick soup, pudding, or curry, during the 10s, bubbles will pop like crazy making a mess everywhere, so you have to keep the lid closed. Therefore I have a similar sized electric ceramic cooktop for simmering, and when I needed to control the temperature more accurately, like making caramel.
I have been cooking on an induction hob for years and spent a fortune on pots and pans including multi tier steamer and pressure cooker, just a little tip to extend the life of the pans, don't whack it on high straight away give it the first 45 to 60 seconds on a medium setting before turning it up, it allows the structure of the metal to adjust and prevents any warping.
We bought our induction Hob/Stove last year and love it. Saves on electricity. Only draw back, back in the day when the wife would cook up a storm (large meal) it helps heat the house. Now the induction doesn't waste any electricity. All in all we love it and following The Butlers to save more Thanks guys - From Canada
Been using a very similar induction hob in the caravan for a couple of years now and absolutely love it, saves a fortune on gas. Worth noting too that if you are cooking outdoors, even a slight breeze significantly reduces the efficiency of a gas burner as the heat is blown away but the induction hob is unaffected.👍
I bought my induction hob about 4 years ago, and I found it was 1/3 quicker than my ceramic cooker. It is also great with my 3 tier steamer, as when boiling potatoes or root vegetables, I get free energy to steam other greens. Energy, which would be wasted by just boiling one saucepan. A money saver too.
I got rid of my gas oven years ago and been using a halogen oven and a stand alone induction hob which can be plugged into a 13 amp socket. Love them both and also just got an air fryer which is great. All much faster than a gas oven. Great video, though thing I would say is that you have to bear in mind that electricity is more expensive than gas so a cost comparison taking that into account would have been interesting to see as it would reveal the level of saving. Thanks 👍
One of the best comparison videos I've seen. Great, real-time tests showed what I've known for some years now. I swear by induction cooking. Thanks for an outstanding video!
lucky enough to have complete induction hob fitted in new kitchen 8 years ago best thing ever done pots and pan cooking very very fast indeed would recommend the work top model if not able to afford complete hob
So pleased you tried one, since going induction and air fryer we have seen huge reductions in our bills. Thank you so much for the wonderful demonstration and I'm so pleased you were able to demonstrate the superior cooking speed of the Induction hob.Love the way you present your shows. x
We’ve had an induction hob for many years now as we don’t have gas, I have noticed another benefit as well, cooking on a hot summer day is much more pleasant as well because you’re not standing over a hot plate getting overheated yourself, I know it sounds bonkers, but there really is a noticeable difference.
The eggs are a good experiment on an induction hob. Because they are so much more efficient they do cook a lot quicker. Very much similar to an air fryer, you will have to adjust your cooking times. Soft boiled eggs traditionally take approximately 6 mins from boiling, but because the speed of the induction is so much quicker, I found that you have to bring the temp of the water up slowly so it can heat the inside of the eggs to the temp of the water then set a timer for 4 mins once boiling.... Perfect eggs. I have watched a few reviews on the induction hobs that state they are 90 percent more efficient than any other cooking method as they just heat the pan/saucepan. No wasted heat. Had ours for 3 years plus
I have a 30 year old 6 inch carbon steel omelette pan and I have two eggs daily. Lightly poached in a spoon of olive oil on the 6 setting for 5 minutes. Like clockwork. Only gripe is a wet finger doesn't work on the controls
Wow, love you two, I saw the little gas one today and a pack of 4 canisters 30 00 the lot, good for power cuts , but I love this new one you re showing, thank you.
I got mine from Halfords for £18 and 24 canisters from an online camping retailer, I can’t remember how much they were but much cheaper than anywhere else I found
Very impressed! Martin will be able to make those brews a lot quicker now for you Sharon! 😂 absolutely love you guys, I spend more time on RU-vid watching you guys than I do watching TV! Keep it up ❤️
Pleased you were happy with your induction hob. I have been really happy with mine, however I have mine fitted into the work surface and it has 4 rings, not all the power timings in the same way,, but as good. . I love mine , it has a lot of safety features as well. If mine senses water dropping to low it will turn off, also find it goes off when things appear cooked. Just a bit different but of course workings are the same. Mine in the AEG. The top is just black no markings. Looks great in a work surface.
I've been cooking on induction cook-tops (single hob, double hob, and full five burner range) for 4 years. Better in every way to gas (which I used for the prior 25 years). You give a good explanation of the induction hob. I appreciate your rigor in testing.
Both of you are looking great. Thanks for the tip about dairy causing inflammation. I quit dairy and can see a huge decrease in the amount of pain in my joints.
I have been cooking with two camping cookers for the kast six months and love them ,we bought our gas cannisters in bulk we also have two air fryers ,happy days
Had an induction stove for the last 10 years it boils water in 70 seconds I did a lot of resurch befor i bought my Electrolux.. it's so safe for my grandkids cooks great and fast. I'll never go back. I would highly recommend
That was a good test you done I have a single ring induction hob and I think it's great had it a few years now from a TV shopping channel but still works but that double ring is great keep up the good work videos are 👍
It’s always worth checking your pans on the actual induction hob. I have a camping kettle that is not magnetic but still works perfect on my induction hob.
love all your videos , i have a af400 and got an 15 in 1 , ive tried nearly everything , now ive just brought an induction hob and new pots and pans , hopefully getting them next week , keep up the good work , look forward to new recieps i can try 🙂
Thanks for the useful information and sweet demeanor. I enjoyed watching. I have used an induction burner for many years for one simple reason. I am in a wheel chair and I can not reach the range top ( HOB top) . I keep my burner in a Kitchen drawer that is on sturdy pull out sliders at just the right height for me to cook and for my legs to slide under.. I open the drawer plug it in and cook, quickly, efficiently and safely. I lined the drawer with foil for spills and just wipe it off after each use. I LOVE IT! You 2 work well together keep it up I subscribed.
Excellent demo. Thank you guys. I recommend (again paying out before but saving massively after) getting Kuhn Rikon (10 year guarantee) modern pressure cookers. I now have bought two. I have a 6.5 litre long handle tall one for popping in a whole chicken or loads of different veg etc or 2.5 kgs of Maris piper for mashing done in 8-10 minutes AND I loved it so much I bought the 2.5 litre frying pan pressure cooker with safe non stick 👀🎈⚠️🤣. I can not recommend enough the Catherine Phipps pressure cooker books! She’s a west London based home cook and writer. She really knows her stuff when it comes to pressure cookers and slow cookers (allows cheaper joints of meat to break down and become yummy tummy not tough). Pressure cookers on yer halogen … that’s my money conscious two pence worth (Kuhn Rikon pair cost about £300 all up AND WORTH EVERY PENNY compared to just getting a cheap £50 one IMHO) ❤
Thank you so very much Guys I've just purchased just now from Amazon and 5 piece pan set altogether £124 next day delivery Really appreciate your reviews on this I've subscribed to your channel God Bless Martin
Nice review but these figures suggest that it is still cheaper to cook with gas than electric...Based on this and the figures given above, the cost of boiling a large pan of water would be as follows for the different hob types: Induction hob: 0.06 (hours) x 1.95 (kW) x 34p (price per kWh) = 3.98p Gas hob: 0.138 (hours) x 1.95 (kW) x 10.3p (price per kWh) = 2.77p
But, I would rather the slightly more expensive induction hob, due to its ease of use, much safer than gas, and can be used with solar panels installed.
Thanks for the great comparison video. 👍🏻 I only have a one burner induction cooker, & I got a small 2qt (Ninja Mini) air fryer for Christmas. I also have a toaster oven as I have no oven or hobb in my little flat. I am in a wheelchair which makes it difficult for me to access an oven. I live alone, so I find I can make just about anything I need in the above mentioned. But, would like to perhaps one day get a larger Air fryer. I am still trying to decide what to cook in the little A/F as it only has one temperature setting 400deg F. But, I am really loving your channel. Already got a lot of great how to tips from you both. You make me smile, and you make my day! Keep up the great work! 💕🇨🇦
Thanks guy's for your video, it made alot of sense to us, ordered this model induction hob, and we're also going to use it with our solar power storage setup at home to save on gas too! 👍❤
These look really good another great well informative video from you two thanks Martin and Sharon definitely going to get one of these ordered instead of using my range ❤
I bought a twin induction hob myself to get educated on this new technology. I was impressed also. But it's not the electricity itself that's controversial but the price. At 3 times the price of gas per kilowatt it's a real pain with lots of OUCH factor!! Thanks for the video, good demonstration.
Always been a gas fan, got a plug in induction hob last summer for cooking outside on the deck and was blown away at how fast it can get a cast Iron pan up to temp and is so controllable. Gonna bring it indoors an start using it again now. Thanks you two.
Hi Sharon & Martin, the induction hob is on my list ,just bought and induction heater, for bathroom as since I've turned heating down it's freezing ! Also has a towel rail ,it's black glass like the hob ,heats in no time ,great ,£54👍
Thanks for the reply to my original induction hob question. One of the things I didn’t like about the cooking of the hob is steak for some reason the gas cooks with less water coming out of the meat which made the steak boil instead of fry . Loving your show guys best Robb
Love the video on the induction hob, made me rush out to my stainless steel pans with a magnet. Luckily the bases are magnetic so will look into the induction hob, I need to find out if it is cheaper than other methods. The quickest is not always the cheapest. Keep up the good work, extremely entertaining.
Had our induction hob for 4 years never looked back tbh I'm so glad we made the switch from gas to induction :) Just never thought about the kettle. We have one of them one cup things watch the Smart Meter jump well into the red... Might have to look at your kettle and use the hob more... Please, please Sharon can you do a lamb hot pot in your 15 in 1 :) Keep up the good work guys love your videos.
I love my induction hobs, been using them trouble free for years. Great especially in summer - helps a lot with the air conditioning as well as electric bills are lower. As with your stove, I did a similar experiment. Butane actually burns a bit hotter than LP or natural gas because it's a different chemical compound. With any kind of gas cooking most of it just dissipates as wasted heat. Research suggests the portable hobs are the way to go for now as the full-size rangetop rigs tend to be less reliable, expensive to fix and to purchase. Good video, thanks :)
Thanks. You two are the best & explain your techniques and equipment perfectly & in a way that everyone is able to understand. You don't get that with these so called celebrity chefs. BTW my wife was also a Dinner Lady! Thanks again.👍
After watching loads of your videos I have just ordered an induction hob. I ordered the Aobosi 2 ring hob as you have described and reviewed it so well. I have 2 air fryers (15 in 1 like yours and the ninja grill and air fryer.) I want to stop using my electric cooker completely and also the kettle. Thank you so much for the brilliant and informative videos. You are both brilliant!!
Hi Sharon and Martin, another great video, induction hob sounds brilliant, l was really surprised how quick the kettle boiled.. Next on my list 😃 ..keep those videos coming l be watching .. Susan.. xx
You can get induction hob protectors which cover the hobs while you cook. I have the Bake-O-Glide ones which can be cut to size and stops scratching the surface if you use cast iron cookware. It would be interesting to compare the cost of using camping gas versus the induction hob.
Yes that was my question too. The induction ring I think was 1800 watt? So quite heavy on electric. Cooking time a bit less. But yes I wondered how it all balances out power wise and cost
It's simple. 2 minutes 45 seconds at 1800 Watts. 1 unit is 1,000 watt hours. The kettle used 0.0835 units. So it takes over 12 hours to use 1 unit of electricity
@@normanhull4792 Thanks for that Norman. I have costed cooking on a camping stove and I got 1.5 hrs out of 1 cylinder at a cost of £1.67. This consisted of 22 mugs of tea with the gas on high which took 1 min 50 secs each and 4 meals with a frying pan. The cost of cylinders does vary depending on quantity and where purchased.
Thanks for the link Martin, just bought one (hope that helps you in some way.) and got a nice ten pound off voucher. Looking forward to saving a bit more on the gas bill. Also loving my cosuri air fryer. Keep the great videos coming!
Very jnterestimg video. I've long thought about getting a single ring induction stove as the majority of my cooking is one pan but have always been skeptical, thinking they are a bit gimmicky. This really answered all of my questions in how well they work, how hot they get, pan type etc. Think I need to find a magnet and check if the pans I have are compatible.
Great comparison Martin :) Butane has a higher calorific value than natural gas from the hob so it burns warmer. That would explain the difference between the camping stove and the cooker. The induction hob is the future though. Cheaper to run and more efficient than gas.
Thing is guy's, the induction hob is £128, run it on electric, then you have got to buy new pans, how long would it take until it's paid for itself. Love you guys, great shows.
Great to see u get one, it should save you heaps! Just don't let anything boil over, it might stuff it up. They don't seem to be sealed well. I usually only use 2 rings anyway. Even if magnets stick some pans cause errors. Always make sure if induction safe. Ideal for people with dementia. You can get trivets for non induction pans. You could put a sheet of stainless over gas stove and put induction hob there to use the exhaust fan. Airfryer and induction, you are well set to save, pity you couldn't get solar like us in Oz. Easy cleanup, those gas stoves are hard work to clean.
A watched pot doesn't boil Shaz! Understandable why chefs in 0z are converting to induction! It can be too fast, you have to slow down the boil for boiled eggs. I blew your mind, lol! Also the gas fumes are bad for you. On the bigger ring it would be quicker!
Induction hobs are great, I treated myself to an induction range cooker when I retired and I'll never to back to any other way of cooking. Induction is more responsive than gas and because the hob doesn't get hot spills just wipe away with no effort at all. The induction hob, Ninja Foodi 15 in 1 and the Ninja double air fryer are pretty much all I use now. I've got some home made minced beef and onion pie filling chilling ready to be made into however many individual pies 750g of mince a large onion and seasonings give me. Two to eat tomorrow with mash & veggies, the rest to freeze for when we fancy a nice bit of pie. I'm quite new to air frying so am loving learning along with you two. I'm amazed we have the same Ninja gadgets!
I love your channel! I've already got a camping stove which I love, I have now ordered an induction hob from Amazon after watching this video. Happy cooking times ahead!
