I love that in the first movie, Joy says, "Sadness, Riley NEEDS you", and here Sadness says, "Joy, Riley WANTS you". We need sadness, but we want joy.

Jay’s reactions are always what I need my heart to feel, and Adam’s reactions keep me from taking those feelings too seriously 😂 Re: school assignments. When I was a junior in high school, our town built a third high school. The districts were different for every age level as well, so there were certainly kids I went to both elementary school and middle school with who didn’t go to my high school. But also when the third high school opened, they redistricted for everyone grade 10 and below, so kids I was friends with in high school who were just a grade or two below me were sent to a different high school for the rest of our education. It totally happens and it’s awful for the students.
@Skye_Writer
@Skye_Writer 3 дня назад
This happened to me as well, and it definitely wasn't a big city we were in. Our town actually built not a new high school, but a 2nd middle school. So, the summer that my brother graduated from middle school, our neighborhood was redistricted so that all incoming 6th graders were going to the new middle school, and the incoming 9th graders would be sent to the _other_ high school. So, even though we were only 2 years apart, my brother attended a different high school from me. It felt kind of odd because my mom was the neighborhood mom, the one that all my friends and my brother's friends liked to tell their problems to, so they all hung out at my house. So my brother's friends were mostly the younger siblings of my friends, and here we were now, going to rival high schools.
@trevellyann
@trevellyann 3 дня назад
In San Fransisco's case, where the movie takes place, schools are assigned by lottery, not location/neighborhood. It's prevent a 'poor school vs rich school' situation. So it was really just bad luck that they got assigned to a different school than Riley.
@Schu0086
@Schu0086 3 дня назад
@@Skye_Writer luckily I was the youngest, haha, and old enough at the time to not have to change schools. But I believe our school also allowed students to attend the school their siblings/parents attended if they were going there prior to the new district. Also all the kids at the new high school were underclassmen and the culture of the school felt immature as a result, I remember our band bus being pelted with stuff after our football team beat theirs. That kind of stuff. I don’t think it was a great experience for my friends who had to change to that school. We also weren’t a big city, we were a small city outside a bigger city where people commuted for work and the population grew quickly. And in Ohio, even 😅
@Schu0086
@Schu0086 3 дня назад
@@trevellyann that’s really interesting; my daughter just entered kindergarten and we applied to the school through a lottery. In our case it was for a specialized language program in a city public school, but I actually sort of like it, her school has more opportunities and more diversity than the assigned public school would have. If all students had to apply to schools through a lottery the money would probably be more evenly split in school funding, though.
@calibadgerdude6082
@calibadgerdude6082 3 дня назад
That exact same thing happened for me too. There were 2 high schools in our district, and they were getting overcrowded so they opened up a 3rd in between the other two. They only had students in 9th and 10th grade go there, and I was a junior at the time so even though I was in the zone for the new HS, I remained at my original one. What made it even weirder was there were delays in the construction of the new facility, so they actually had all the new HS students and teachers on my HS campus for like 6 months.

@IceMetalPunk
@IceMetalPunk 3 дня назад
My dad (who I've been estranged from for 15 years, for perspective) truly believes emotions are under conscious control. That nothing can make you feel negative emotions at all unless you "choose to let them". Considering emotions evolved as subconscious heuristics to guide our behavior, if that was how it worked, no one would have *any* negative emotions... and our species would probably struggle to survive.

@MinatoNamikaze-ff9dj
@MinatoNamikaze-ff9dj 2 дня назад
I actually think its the opposite. The movie started out being accepting of the new emotions but they took over. To me this movie is about learning how to not let your emotions define who you are and control you. Which is why Reily is able to learn how to call on certain emotions like Joy. At the end Reily took charge of herself rather than letting her emotional control her.
@livinginsaturn
@livinginsaturn 2 дня назад
@@ZophielaI get your point. I just think it all comes to the moment Anxiety express she’s sorry and was just doing what she though was best for Riley, it wasn’t her intention. I mean, we’ve all been there. The emotions on this movie just represents our own actions, there are no characters in control, just you. It all comes down to how you regulate these emotions to keep all of them at bay. I guess I expected him to relate to that, understand, forgive her and try to see how it’s an important emotion. But I admit that’s probably on me, lol. Everyone thinks different at the end of the day. Sorry for the long answer.
@livinginsaturn
@livinginsaturn 2 дня назад
@@MinatoNamikaze-ff9djI partially agree with you. I get the effort to accept her in the beginning, but like Sadness in part one, she’s just acting accordingly to what Riley was feeling. It’s instinctive. Nothing would’ve happened if since the beginning they handled Anxiety like they did at the end, but of course that’s impossible, cause we all need a first time to learn how do deal with stuff, which Riley did. So all the chaos was bound to happen. That said, this is all about the movie itself, and I was referring to his reaction specifically. I like your take on the movie, though.

This was such a realistic interpretation of a panic attack. Not just the physical side of Riley before, during, and after it, but also Anxiety at the console. There's this swirling, sharp storm while you're also kind of frozen in mental limbo, unable to grab onto any coherent thought. The fact that she was kind of phasing so that she couldn't be physically touched and then starting to tear up really put a visual on how I feel when it happens. This movie was great but it was actually a very hard watch since it was so relatable. I wonder if they'll make a third. If they do, I feel like a good time to place it in is when Riley first gets to college. I don't think there was ever a time when I went through such a huge mental shift in such a short period of time. I made a lot of mistakes but I can't say I regret them because it was all a part of maturing. But you also do a lot of experimenting with who you want to be and what you like and what you're passionate about. It's rich ground for storytelling. Though this is technically a "kids movie" I feel like they pulled a real toy story which kind of aged up the maturity of the films in order to stay relatable to the same group of viewers (and older). While I'm sure kids enjoyed Toy Story 3, it was very much about letting go of your childhood as you leave it. So I don't think it would be a bad idea to make a third one even more mature (but still family friendly) that young kids may not fully be able to understand yet. My only hope is that they wouldn't make it about romance (even though it would be natural) because I'm aro/ace. They'd checking the schedule, wondering "was't romantic love supposed to show up today?" and then they'd get an email saying, "oh sorry, we forgot to hire someone for that position. oh well. maybe disgust can take on those duties?"

Jays reaction really show that he was going through it. Looked like he was having his own set of recalls of his own thoughts and experiences. It took me a while but Anxiety was driving in my brain for years and years. All the emotions except for Anxiety. Ennui and Fear were handcuffed to the controller. Eventually I learned that no I dont need it to be driving. First emotion I felt come back was anger and it was utter delight. I went to my therapy session like "I FELT ANGER! I WAS ANGRY! I WAS PIIIIIIIISSED! LIKE SO EFFING PISSED I TOLD HIM OFF!" in utter joy, and then I was like "OMG I feel good that I felt angry!" Anxiety still tries to drive, but most of the days, it touches it to give me the thought, but then everyone else goes through my check lists and tells me its okay. Fear probably is the one driving now. But like fear in the movie its more like "Have your checklists, you got this you have this in your back pocket, you already came prepared, or you're observation you're resourceful, even if you dont have it, you have things that can help."

I think it's also good to have a trilogy on inside out where Riley's older, maybe fresh out of college and trying to find a job and settle down and support her aging parents and dealing with "life". If we add new emotions, where Nostalgia can be represented by Grief deal with a trauma. I also think that we can also dive more into how the emotions themselves mature and Joy struggling to find herself: - Sadness -> Maturity - Anger -> Assertiveness/Drive - Fear -> Awareness - Disgust -> Disapproval - Embarassment -> Shame/Cringe - Anxiety -> Stress - Ennui -> Apathy - Envy -> Desire - Nostalgia -> Grief - And then you have Joy, lost and unable to figure how to grow when she's stuck in the old ways, constantly trying to be Hope or in search of Happiness (and getting disappointed when things constantly don't go in her way, especially when dealing with some major event/trauma/love/loss. And then maybe finding a way to grow into becoming the more nuanced and balanced version between happiness and hope: "Content/Appreciation". Being able to appreciate the things she is vs what she wants to be, and letting Riley understand that not everyone can get anything they ever wish for, but that shoudn't deter Riley from being Content with what she is and what she has, and appreciate it, while still holding on to those hopefully opportunities, and not letting Apathy take the wheel too long.

What I love is how they kinda referenced the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding method as Riley comes down off her attack. For those that dont onow, the method helps reduce anxiety by actively seeking 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste. So showing her feeling the bench (which was beautifully rendered i might add) and hearing the sounds of the stick on the puck and the skates on the ice, showed absolutely phenomenal awareness on the part of the creators!

Very cute and funny and entertaining and all the things you expect from a Disney Pixar movie. I enjoyed it immensely. The voice acting is top notch like the first one. Me and Trish felt so many similarities with sadness and Phyllis from 'The Office', only to discover that she is the voice actor for sadness.

I'm really enjoying just how much Anxiety is getting to the homie on the right, paired with talking about how he "murdered his anxiety" it's a great dichotomy lmao. Love the sorts of feelings these two films bring out, even in adults.

Overthinking being portrayed like overworked animators was way too funny to me. And I'm sure some of those brain beans were direct representations of animators who worked on this film. I'm feeling so seen by this movie and Jay's reaction! I really wish it was as easy as Adam makes it sound. Like the first one I love how the main plot is a simple slice of life story, while everything inside the head can be fantastic and epic. 1 is about a girl sad about moving who doesn't know how to be sad. 2 is about a girl who just learned she'll be separated by her friends (again) while struggling with puberty and trying to find who she is and wants to be.

I love how the personality of the emotions comes out in how they interact with the pannel. As a quick example, Anxiety almost jabs at it and works recklessly, while Joy is care full and delicate with the pannel.

Can vouch for the different schools thing. The Elementary School I went to funneled you into 1 of 2 High Schools based on your address and zone on the city map; If you wanted to go to the other HS you had to enter into a lottery system, but it was the school county's way of organizing things to not over or under populate a school and keeping.

While I thought that this sequel was only maybe 60% as good as the original, the idea of creating a whole new sense of self at the start of puberty is definitely something I can relate to. I wanted so badly to fit in with who I saw as the "cool kids" that I found myself becoming someone totally different from who I was just a few years earlier. It took me a few years to reinvite that old self back into my life, and I ended up sort of "merging" the two. So, as much as I didn't care for the Anxiety character, at least the idea was grounded in what has been the reality for a lot of kids growing up and coming of age.

10:40 they are in eighth grade which is middle school. they are going into high school and sometimes you aren’t assigned to the same high school. Sometimes two people can be assigned to a middle school because that’s the closest one, but then they both have different high schools that they’re closer to.

this is what i imagine my brain is like before my zoloft kicks in but truly the moment that made me burst into tears was "joy...riley wants you". when joy doesn't come easy (as it often doesn't with someone like me who deals with anxiety and depression) you really have to try very very very hard to summon her. also never in my life did i think i'd want to defend the emotion of anxiety but adam is making me want to lmao my anxiety is a part of me. i live with it. i will never get rid of it, you cannot suppress any emotion even the ones you have too much of or have an imbalance of. you live with it and you sit with it, it's part of you just like the good emotions are. that's the whole point of these movies, dude. the whole point of being human. it's taken me my whole life of coming to terms with it and my life is better now that i'm living WITH my anxiety and depression and not trying to pretend they don't exist. i sit with them because sometimes that's all you can do. also zoloft lmao
