She was an American Jazz and swing music singer back in the 50's. Angelina admired her voice along with Jazz music and the singers from back in the Day. Her grandmother who loves Jazz music, was and is still a large influence in Angelina's career and life.

she is amazing in that since then, she picked her own songs. Her singing this song, Gloomy Sunday, broke the internet when they sent it out worldwide. From the very start!! The other three songs are on this same video and are very different from this but you can really get it. She was NINE when she did I Put a Spell on You. The next song she did acapella .. and it is very difficult to sing. She rocks it. Then she does Bang, Bang and ends with Summertime. Really worth seeing it all.

If you compare it to the original by Billie Holiday when, I believe, she was 29, you will think one singer (Billie) sang both renditions. This is when Angelina was referred to as a 'vocal chameleon' for she displayed, not just this time but many other times concerning other artists, that she can emulate them anytime she desires. Here, it's as if Billie was actually reincarnated into a 7 year old Norwegian girl, who's 3rd language is English. Simply mind boggling.

I enjoyed your reaction to Angelina's debut performance. Of the 4 songs she sang in this competition, this was my least favorite. Then, after listening to Angelina sing it 6 or 7 times, I went back and listened to Billie Holiday perform the original... I was in tears... In order to truly understand what Angelina has done here, you really need to listen to her and then Billie Holiday. Then you'll begin to understand the magic that took place on that stage... Angelin can speak and read English before 6 yo! Her father has worked/lived in several countries during Angelina's young years. He works in the oil industry, and has traveled a lot! There is a video where Angelina is like 4 yo, she shows her room and her toys etc., there she speaks excellent English

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RU-vid. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. While one could say Angelina was mimicking other artists, there is no doubt she had her own style and created her own arrangements, even at this early age. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition to trim the number of vocalists who passed their audition, and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. The vast majority of the prize money was donated to charity benefitting poor children. Record company executives flew their private jets to Norway to attempt to sign 8 year old Angelina but all were thankfully rebuked. Disney also made an offer but not accepted. I believe he was asking to see if she was aware of the history of the song. That's because 'Gloomy Sunday' is known to history as 'The Hungarian Suicide Song' and was banned in parts of Europe during WWI because many believed the song had led to a rash of suicides in the population. Angelina, unaware of this at the time, I'm sure, simply replied Yes, it's about a sad Sunday and I think the judge was pleased to realize she had a simple child's view of the song and it's meaning. Thus the comment in essence Yes I could feel that sad Sunday. Amazing Angelina would start her career with such a controversial song. 🔥🔥🔥♥👣

English is her third language of 4. All her performances on Norway's Got Talent went viral immediately. She asked her Mother to enter her in the competition when she was 5 but the rules were a minimum of 7 years. Here she is at 7! She turned 8 at the end of the competition. She won it with 46% of the vote. She was voted a National Treasure after she won. She still is! She is a gift to us all.

Yes, this was the moment when the people of the world officially discovered Angelina. Besides her incredible vocal attributes what was so striking about this performance was her poise and confidence. She would later tell all of us she is most comfortable in life when she is singing 'for people', particularly on a stage'. Angelina currently has a somewhat older fan base primarily because she started with covers of jazz classics and standards. However she also needs to build her following by young people to really advance and sustain her career. It would be interesting to hear Lulu’s reaction to Angelina’s new 6 song EP (released about a month ago). All songs are originals and all great. Angelina is now 17.

You'll have far more amazing videos that cover the next ten years of her life. It's a living documentary of her musical growth. I have not stopped listening for four years now and her voice is a singers singer voice. I wish I could do half of what she does with her voice now. Enjoy the journey

The reason Bjarte asked her if she knew what the song is about, is because this is a very controversial song which openly alludes to suicide...it was banned in several countries during WWII because of that, out of concern that it was causing folk to 'log off'....Angelina's mother didn't want her to do this song for that reason and, so, Angelina chose the verses which weren't too overtly suggestive and tickled the lyrics in a few places to turn the song more toward the feel of simple depression or sadness...I wonder if Bjarte realised how spot on Angelina was being when she said it was about "a sad Sunday"...because she had intended it that way...if you listen to Billie Holiday's original, you will be even more astounded at what Angelina did here...peace and joy from NZ

There is a clip of Angelina, 18 months old, in her baby bed singing into a mic. She arrived here with her music in her. Her grandmother loves jazz so that was her exposure. But she can sing anything.

Remember that english is not her first language. I recommend that you listen to her 3rd & 4th NGT songs "Bang Bang" (Nancy Sinatra) and "Summertime" (Ella Fitzgerald) to see what a few months did for Angelina's confidence on stage.
