@@LU6TIE I’m sure it does I didn’t find out about the pilot until I was 4 episodes in and I was like I’ll watch it then and now I’ve been watching helluva boss I’m gonna watch it I’m completely obsessed with this universe right now
I wouldn't say it is essential but I think the way the show is written it kinda seems to assume that (most) viewers would have watched the pilot. I think it is better to have watched the pilot before watching the series proper, but yeah it is certainly not an obligation.
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od Angel was a mobster in life, not a porn star/prostitute, so Lust wasn't the sin that sentenced him to Hell. Greed would make sense, but then again we don't really know his entire backstory.
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od Regardless of how sinners behave, they will ALWAYS exist in the Pride Ring and only the Pride Ring. All sinners manifest in the Pride Ring presumably because Lucifer rules the Pride Ring and he was the cause of sin first appearing on Earth in the first place. So he's forced to only see the evil in humanity. It's also canonical that sinners can't leave the Pride Ring.
Episode 1 doesn't set up a clear definition for the idea of redemption because Charlie doesn't have one. She's spent her entire life in hell. She's not on the "angel's council of deciding who goes to heaven" or whatever does that. She knows the general idea, being virtuous, helping and not hurting and generally bringing happiness rather than misery into the world but that's pretty much it. Her hotel is very much a leap of faith, funnily enough xD Her best starting point is seeing around her what behaviours people in hell have in common and tell them not to do that.
That's actually a very good point. I assumed that all of her knowledge of what would get them into heaven was just based off of what stuck up people always parrot as being righteous. But if the common denominator between all these people is that they are in hell because of behaviors than the behaviors that are most common would be most likely to be a cause of it. Definitely flawed, But it makes sense. It makes more sense now
Spoiler: all the songs are bops. At least for me as I was singing them for days after watching the series. It's like a Disney movie if there was cursing, crack whores, and cannibals. I'm not a theater kid at all, but this series was fantastic.
regarding "sin": the characters don't REALLY know what they did to wind up in hell, and for example its generally implied that Angel Dust only became a sex worker AFTER he died (in fact the show has yet to actually touch on this so far so it might come up next season, but pre-show stuff has shown that Angel Dust was in the mob before he died). And sure there's lots of gay people in hell, but there are a lot of straight people too (for example katie "i don't touch the gayyyyyyys' killjoy, PROBABLY) and nothing suggests anyone went to hell because of their sexuality. As for what they have to DO be redeemed: how the fuck are they supposed to know? they're just guessing.
Worth noting, there is a pilot episode on RU-vid that gives a little bit more context and character introductions. Fair warning, most of the voice cast is different, and the animation was made pre having a budget (but both are still very good for independent animation).
Just some context for this show: It started out as a pilot episode on RU-vid before Amazon basically bought the series. For RU-vid, it was originally planned on being a full 24 episode season, but they were forced to condense it to 8 episodes for Amazon. The creator of Hazbin Hotel also has another series on RU-vid called Helluva Boss which is a great show as well. I highly recommend checking that out as well.
Good reaction. But you're going a bit heavy-handed with editing out parts of the song. Plenty of other reactors keep more of it in their videos, but you do you. No biggie.
It still works, though! Also, other channels have done some different editing like isolating the vocals and not having music in at all. Different styles for different channels 🤷♂️
I feel like you might have got so hung up on the question of what redemption is that you maybe missed how the residents have moral problems they need to fix. Like, Angel Dust sexually harasses Alastor and Husker, and Vaggie's deal with Alastor lets the audience know he literally buys people's souls. They may be cool and funny, but they got issues.
I believe Angel's only that way because of Val, and his past with abuse himself!! He went backwards when he felt that there was no one to support him, and Husk told Angel that, 'hey, yeah, there's something wrong with you, but also all of us, but you don't gotta loathe in sadness forever, cause you're not the only one'
I promise y’all, the show isn’t passing judgement on anyone or anything except maybe heaven, and the bullshit power dynamics inherent to the hypocritical, arbitrary system in place. Hope y’all enjoy this one, it’s a hell of a ride
I’d recommend watching the RU-vid pilot. It serves as something of an episode 0 and is mostly cannon. It really helps lay out some extra support for the characters and concept.
Interesting convo afterwards. To give the show credit...the prime character, Charlie...isn't a damned sinner...shes the product of her upbringing, Hell's nobility by birth...so not in hell for being gay...just gay. As for Angel...note that he is an addict in every sense, a walking collection of surrenders to extreme overindulgence...so his damnation isn't a byproduct of being gay per se, but of being a severely damaged person. I can't divulge much else without risking a spoiler...but a lot becomes clearer as the show moves on. Enjoy!
Me scrolling through my feed: "Wait, Nerdy and Claroos watched Hazbin?! YESSS!" After you're done with this season, I would *highly* recommend the spin-off series Helluva Boss (starting from its pilot episode 0); in some ways, Helluva is even better than Hazbin, *especially* (but not only) in season 2! ...now to watch this video :) *EDIT After Watching:* Funny story about it being "all ages": my thirteen year old niece referenced this show, and I was like, "Wait, what? Aren't you a little young for that?!" and she goes, "I've seen so much worse." Which, like... fair. And if I think back to when I was 13, my friends and I were *doing* a lot worse (or at least, claiming we were doing a lot worse). But still... you get to a certain age, and your brain goes, "Sex and cursing is for 18+ only!" and totally forget what being a pubescent teenager was like 😅 To summarize the plot so far for Nerdy's clarification: angels regularly come to Hell to wipe the souls of Sinners (former humans) from existence, to keep the population low enough to prevent a potential rebellion against Heaven. Charlie, Lucifer's daughter and therefore princess of Hell, has created a rehab center that she hopes will help teach Sinners how to be good enough people to earn entrance to Heaven, thereby allowing them to escape the extermination. No one's ever done that before, but they're hoping it can be done. And now, someone from Hell has killed an angel for the first time ever, and the angels (whose army is led by Adam) want revenge. As for what constitutes redemption? That's a good question; perhaps so good a question that the characters will explore it and spend the season trying to figure it out themselves, like it's a core theme of the show 😁 Maybe watching the pilot that's on RU-vid might help clear some more up? But I think that's pretty concise a synopsis.
Just to add my opinion to the pilot discussion, it is definitely not a must watch, the show itself goes over all the same key information that is shared in the pilot. The pilot is a good entertaining watch no doubt and you might gleam a little bit more from it but it's not nearly as "necessary"' as some people make it out to be.
There is a pilot from four years ago that is still canon on the creator's (Vivziepop's) channel. Check it out as well as her sister to Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss. Please note that Vivziepop allows reaction channels to post any content from her official channel in full with no editing or cutting.
As a teacher of Religion, Philosophy and Ethics at Episcopalian and Catholic high schools, And a former theatre kid myself, I VERY much relate to "this is literally made to target me" and "literally all my friends love this". I am looking forward to seeing your reactions to the rest of the series. And then Helluva Boss, the RU-vid series set in the same universe!
One thing I will point out is that right now nobody but Charlie is interested in trying to achieve redemption, but that's not necessarily becuase they don't want it. Even those who would absolutely want it won't try, because they don't believe it will work Like the sign on the gates of hell says, "abandon all hope, ye who enter here." And they have. They have 0 hope that their lives will ever get better, so they drown themselves in alcohol, drugs, sex, violence, etc for what little time they have left until the next extermination
OMG Hazbin Hotel? I didn't expect them to react to this at all! Hype! They really should watch the pilot tho, it's honestly a better introduction to the world and has some good context you wouldn't know otherwise
The pilot (This episode was not the pilot) started life on youtube and then got picked up by Amazon because it was ridiculously popular at the time. If you do react to it you can probably be a bit more liberal with the picture to picture. Curious to see how you find the show going forward.
I would definitely recommend giving the pilot a watch. I believe it's technically considered canon and there are events and characters in the pilot that are referenced in the show. It's also free on RU-vid so there's not much of a reason to cut it up in editing.
suggestion. don't cut out parts of the video. Instead, superimpose a "Here Due to Copyright" watermark over the video and fade the screen slightly. For the musical parts, put the lyrics on for your viewers, but make it so only you two can actually hear those parts. This will protect you from copyright and not have to have such large chunks cut from the reaction.
It's not the tightest world built show but it's just heartwarming and fun. Even when it gets darker there's a heart to it and its messages. I loved it a lot and Charlie is just great, genuine compassion and empathy incarnate. She's basically built a halfway house in hell because she wants to help people.
yeeeepppp this show definitely not all ages 😂😭 and lol you know Alex Brightman how casual you dropped that 💀 edit and can't wait you to experience that actually ALL songs (pretty much) give everything .. this is one helluva soundtrack (😏)
OMG I'm so happy you're reacting to this!!! 💜💜💜 (Also I'll join my voice to those suggesting you watch the original pilot, it's free on RU-vid and it definitely adds to your understanding, just a note it has different VAs)
Personally, I enjoyed the creator's sister series "Helluva Boss" over hazbin hotel. They both take place in hell, but Helluva Boss deals more with the hellborn and the remaining rings, while hazbin focuses more on the sinners sent to hell and the pride ring.
Fair warning: This show tackles some intense situations in a very brutal way. Episode 4 especially is the only episode rated 18+ and that is for a very good reason.
I feel like, while the pilot doesn't really divulge more about the premise than ep 1, it does give us more of the characters and their personalities, which helps to provide context as to why/how some of the characters were there. Episode 1 is great for reestablishing the overarching plot, while the pilot is great for getting a better sense of what the characters are like at the starting point of their journeys.
I had hoped you'd react to this 😍 Looking forward to your further reactions to this series 🥰 Though you might want to react to the pilot as well to get some background to some of the characters 😊
If y'all can run the music through a central channel extractor or some similar plug-in built for making karaoke tracks, you can pull just the vocals and mute the intrumental, should be enough to bypass copyright!
I wished that we could've had some more reactions to the actual songs. They are not too protective over copyright, so I'm sure you could've played some more of that sweet sweet music to react to.
BTW: There are 2 types of denizens of hell. You have sinners like Angel Dust, Husk, Alistor, and Niffty, as well as hell born like Charlie. If you remember, Lute was talking too Charlie in the meeting about how her and the other hell born were spared being killed in purges because of Lucifer's deal with heaven.
Need to watch the pilot. Hell Hierarchy: • Lucifer • Charlie & Lilith • 7 Deadly Sins • Ars Gotias • Overlords • Sinners • Hellbournes • Hell Hounds • Imps Sister show Helluva Boss
I would say, catch the Pilot, so you can understand a few things this show doesn't setup in the main episodes as well... even if some of it isn't cannon anymore. Most of it is...
⚠️SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE ENTIRETY OF THE SEASON DON'T READ⚠️ Them going on and on abt Angel seeming happy and nice while knowing the truth is something 😅 but I do agreee with them, he's nice and I'd like to hang out with him, the happy part tho... they also said that he seems happy with what he's doing I think... ep4 will hurt lol (I still cry everytime i watch it)
@@unscmistressgaming1132 fr 😭 angel has always been my favorite character and I'd watched the 3 first episodes like, a week before I watched the 4th and I was like "wait what happened why is he tied up" lmao, then I was excited abt it being an Angel Dust then I cried all the tears in my body until the end of the episode and now I have an unhealthy obsession with "Loser, baby"...
The pilot is on RU-vid on Vivziepop’s channel! It was liked so much that it was picked up and 4 years later is shown on Amazon prime! She has a counterpart show Helluva Boss that didn’t get picked up that is at the half point of the second season on her channel. Both shows share the same universe but we still don’t know if the main characters from both shows will combine(?!) I can’t think of the word. Also when pilot was picked up by Amazon, they had changed all the voices. Also Alex Brightman does characters in both shows. Anyway I love to watch reactions of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, and excited to see your reactions after seeing you both react to this!!
P.S. The pilot was released a year ago and had some casting differences. The pilot included Charlies pitch on the project and Alistors arrival at the hotel (including a battle with Sir Pentious). While it is no longer considered cannon, it is still a good thing to watch.
I was wondering if you guys would react to this. The songs are bangers. The story is interesting, and I like the characters and the plot had me engaged. Do you want to hear trigger warnings? Because there is an episode that is pretty rough.
I really dislike the series, but I hope you’ll enjoy it. It’s just completely out of my realm of interest lol jokes aren’t funny, songs not in my taste, and writing is… eh. So I hope you’ll like it, but I’ll have to skip that one 😅
