Smohalla (1815 - 1895) was from the Wanapum (Sokulk) tribe of Washington state. He is founder of the dreamer religion. His teachings rejected the 'white man's ways'. He emphasized the importance of the Earth as a mother, dreams as source of supernatural power and returning to traditional Native American traditions.
