Ridiculous around £400 for a table saw and they can't be arsed to put a decent fence on it. So you cough up the money for the saw, then cough up the material money and time to build a proper fence! For a little extra one can buy a dewalt table saw with an awsome rack and pinion fence. I like Makita tools and own a few but none the less SHAME ON YOU MAKITA!
@christofix
@christofix 4 года назад
Actually, making that fence was fun, but when I bought the table saw I was really disappointed about the fence. I didn't have the money back then to invest in a Dewalt or something bigger so this was my option. But now with all the improvements I made, this table saw is actually good. Thank you for watching.

Nice upgrade. Just wondering if you adjusted the ruler of the saw now that the fence is thicker? As for your question, I use beeswax whenever I can. It's the easiest to apply and has the nicest finish. Varnish and that type of stuff I don't like very much but paint is the worst. I hate to paint 😂
@christofix

You have an eye for detail my friend, but no i did not adjusted the ruler. i'm goin to tell a litle secret here but i'm planning to make a new workbench with this table saw integrated. Cool video Chris! I really dig the way your editing to the music. That looks like a solid solution for the fence issue on your saw. Makita makes great products but the fence and the indentations stamped into the table are two of the main reasons I don't think I'd prefer that saw. I've been hooked on the rack and pinion fence on the Dewalt for a long time now. Their fence locks tight, it's very accurate and the 7491 has a large 32" rip capacity. The extra bulk you've added to your fence will be nice for use with the type of jigs that ride the fence such as some tenon jigs . I often finish many of my projects with oil base Minwax satin polyurethane. I can get great results with little mess by applying three coats using a foam brush with a bit of sanding after the second coat. Sometimes, depending on the project I will use a spray can on the final coat. The resulting finish is durable and looks quite professional. The edits are awesome man! I appreciate them, I know they are a time consuming effort :)

Question of the day answer: When I was in the Army was the first time I ever heard of paste wax. We would literally set the can on fire and pour it on the floor. once it congealed we used an electric floor buffer to make it shine. I tried this process on some cedar chair seats for the dining room. After about 12 layers, they shine wonderfully. Lot's of time and work but well worth it.

@@christofix For starters maybe you could put your whole body weight into yanking it like you did the original? A better test would be to cut wood on the original fence and show that it comes out crooked. Then cut wood on the new fence and show the tolerances there? Eh? Science.

Thank you so much, my friend! It is always nice when I see I can help people with my videos. I made a few improvements on this table saw ( zero clearance insert, crosscut sled, ...) You can find videos of those topics on my channel. I didn't improve the miter gauge yet, but I'm working on something to make that better too. I wish you a lot of fun with your new table saw. See you soon in one of my new videos. Greetings

When I saw your review of the table saw I was surprised that the saw came with such a weak fence. A fence that connects to the back of the saw seems like such a simple thing to include. Glad to see you make this upgrade. To answer your question, it really depends on the situation, but I like mineral oil for a food safe application (cutting boards, kids toys) and teak oil for outdoor situations. I also like water based polyurethane to add protection when required.

Thanks for watching. I have no problems with it. I'm very happy with this improvement and my cuts are always parallel. I know Dewalt has a better system but you will have to pay more for the machine. If I had the money I would choose a Dewalt but now I had to buy a table saw I could afford. So for persons with a small budget, this improvement is excellent.

Fantastisch werk Christofix! Wat zijn de afmetingen van het gebruikte hout en welke bouten en vijzen heb je gebruikt?
@christofix
@christofix 5 лет назад
Groetjes

@christofix

Hi Marc, That stop block at the end is now replaced with a stop block in metal. You can see it in A update video I made ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mSOystshs7U.html ). Hi Chris, made this in 90 mins this afternoon from solid beech off-cuts that I had from another project. It works a treat! I machined the timber so accurately that I didn't have to use captive bolts in the top of the aluminium rail, it just push fits very snugly. It is now rock solid with no flex at all. Thanks again! I might make the cross cut sled now and maybe beef up the mitre slide mechanism.
