There was also the prototype MAC 36 that was meant to replace the Hotchkiss M1914, a series of prototype 9mm machine guns (MAC 37, SE MAS 36, Hotchkiss "M.H.") and the prototype SE MAS 1940 designed for the paratroopers of the 601 GIA and 603 GIA.

Thanks, A small error: the Hotchkiss 1922 LMG in 8mm Lebel was a prototype during the 1923 trials to replace the Chauchat. The Hotchkiss 1922 LMG (strip fed) was adopted in small number (300 to 400) in 7.5mm as the "Fusil Mitrailleur Hotchkiss model 1934". It was only used by colonials in Syria and Indochina, as a substitute for the MAC mle 1924/29.

You mean infamous Chauchat CSRG ?

infamous? no other choice awailable in that times (lewis weight twice and was not better in mud, and BAR comes too late, the only better automatic rifle was the soviet 1915 Avtomat Federova... the french troops use it with success, so all captured Chauchats was use from the germans, many modified to use Mauser ammo: i think not that they spend time to modify a "infamous" rifle... only the amerian caliber modified Chauchats had serious reliability issues because was built by non specialized factory (like bicycle makers etc...).

generalpattonfan god bless america, I don't now for Machine Gun, but french naval artillery fought under the White Flag of the French Kingdom, and were pretty usefull to the US at the battle of Chesapeak Bay in 1781.
