Putting on a WWII Imperial Japanese Army uniform and field equipment. The impression is suitable for 1939-1945.
This is our first video so please excuse us for the poor quality! We’ll probably work on future videos that cover kit lists and buyers guides for IJA impressions.

During the Korean War, that uniform was Used by some korean soldiers and korean police. They even used Japanese rifles (korean police used type 44 rifles). Great video and very informative. It was great to see How to wear every item. I was surprised by the basic design of the Type 99 Tako backpack. It looks like an evolution of the prussian style backpack we use in the parade uniform of the Chilean Army's Escuela Militar (Officer School) and in a simplified form in the NCO School. The "marmita"( I don't know the English Word for the metal food container and pot combination) looks very simmilar. Our packs had a wooden frame and were fastened to the ammo pouches via bronce hooks. But the principle is the same. I also got to use the last model of field pack with the poncho and cloth objects tied in a horseshoe shape around the pack. I understand that contemporary school backpacks used by children in Japan are based on old European Military models, maybe there is a conection but I don't know.

Wow amazing insight into what a Japanese soldier had to go through in order to prepare for battle, unfortunately there is no simplicity with allot of these older battle uniforms. Great Video thanks for sharing!

Was the helmet cord system based on a Samurai's kabuto? It looks quite close to me and it is unique among all the helmets I have seen from the era.
@hattorihan7503
@hattorihan7503 2 года назад
Yup! It functions like the 3 point chinstraps you see in modern ballistic helmets, so its quite snug on the head. Also allows a soldier to tie it across his back when not in use.

@@hattorihan7503 Looking at it the three point helmet seems to pop up through history, here is that Samurai Kabuto: www.samuraimuseum.jp/shop/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/OG109347-scaled.jpg The Romans also had three point helmet straps as well and speaking as a Roman reenactor myself our helms are quite snug.

This is really awesome!! Thx for sharing. A long process with the putties and even the helmet...now I understand why GI' s cut short the straps if Type 90 helmets..I like a lot this video, and make me inspiration to wear the correct way a IJA mannequin with some true militaria that I have. Thx!!!!

I am Korean. My grandfather who died before I was born was conscripted to the Japanese imperial army (some time before 1945). I was told this when I was an adult, and told my grandmother who I knew my whole life speaks Japanese fluently but never knew. Forgot how I figured it out but my oldest aunt told me the he never seen combat but was in eastern Russia when WW2 ended. I been in the US army since 2010 now stationed in Germany. I wonder if my grandfather was wearing this.

Interesting. I wonder how it would compare to german WWII uniform (which I'm familiar with) since some things seem more simplistic yet more practical, but some seem more uncomfortable.
@hattorihan7503
@hattorihan7503 2 года назад
WWII IJA equipment is pretty much a simplified evolution of German equipment from the 1880s/90s. I personally find it more comfortable to wear than German kit since there's less stuff hanging from the belt.
@fanta4897
@fanta4897 2 года назад
@@hattorihan7503 That would probably depend on the configuration of the german kit. Even if I have all on the belt, it can be made relatively comfortable if I use belt hooks (which would be similar to japanese system, although the japanese seems more simple, but fragile). On the other hand, the japanese kit seems to have a lot of things hanging on shoulder straps which I would assume would have to be very irritating on the shoulders (my shoulders are always sore when I use Y-straps, or even just shoulder strap for gasmask can, since japanese have canteen attached by shoulder strap, then that by itself must be irritating).
