Recently featured this riff in my Riff Battle 1982 video. • Classic Rock Riff Batt...
Figured that it deserved it's own video as it's such a cool and fun riff to play, so here we are.
Hope you enjoy,
Cheers, KDA

Love it! Very underrated song in Zeppelin's discography, in my opinion.

Just to add some real perspective, when Zep went to record at ABBA's new Polar Studios in Stockholm, JPJ was the first one there by a day. He said he got to toy around w/ all the latest keys/synths and when the rest of the guys got there, he showed them a bunch of riffs he'd been working on and they jumped right in. It's not like Page was so far gone. His playing on the album is sublime....then add the Polar outtakes that were on Coda. To top it off, JPJ wasn't even at Page's home studio for mixdown. It was basically a 35% JPJ/Plant credited album because 1, JPJ was there first, and 2, because Plant and JPJ kept day hours while Bonham and Page worked at night. It's still a great Page record loaded w/ killer guitar.

Though everything you stated was indeed correct, there is a bit of additional information I have. When the recording session was complete, enough music had been recorded for a double album. Atlantic, owners of Swan Song, did not believe the market would bear the burden of a double album. As such, it was decided that during the supporting tour of In Through The Outdoor, an EP would be released of material not included on the full album. This EP never materialized due to John Bonhams death. Page would release most of the intended EP tracks on Coda and all material included on Coda fron these sessions would demonstrate Jimmy's presence and establish that if Led Zeppelin had survived they were prepared to survive the eighties. Greatness is always greatness.

@@KellyDeanAllenGuitar I tend to try to get too much in it once then my head goes boom, but even after I put it down I go back in there and pick it back up, there's something to be said about giving it a rest,.. let it sink in.

What do you look at more,.. if any ,you're playing hand or your fretting hand?... obviously just starting out I look at the Frets more just for finger placement, but they're starting to find their own way and I can work on a little more picking technique

I like your tone here more than the album. I think it is naturally played about. 5-10% slower than the studio. The "live" version here on RU-vid is obviously sped up to match the album tempo they've paired it to. Plant's hair is flowing spastically, and the stage crew's heads are bopping too fast.
