This is an often forgotten tornado outbreak. When people think of a tornado from the 1920's they think of the tri state tornado of 1925. They dont often think of the 1920/03/28 tornado outbreak.
The movie, The Wizard of Oz was based on the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz - which was a children's novel written by L. Frank Baum, originally published in 1900. From the book's original pages, the sun bleached gray Kansas prairie was home to these monstrous storms and was the catapult from where Dorothy's adventures began. So, how can the grandiose final statement even be considered as factual, since the book had been written some twenty plus years before the 1920 storm, a full 40 years before MGM made its masterpiece, The Wizard of Oz?
Yeah, I didn't understand that either. Because of its geography, Kansas has seen more than its share of tornadoes and it's a logical location to place the event that begins the story. However, a quick check of Wikipedia reveals that this outbreak did not involve Kansas. I'm not sure how the 1920 event inspired a movie made almost two decades later, when many other tornado outbreaks occurred in the intervening years.
