Have to factor in the amount of powder in each cartridge and the ft lbs of recoil. Doesn’t apply if your hunting only and not shooting much. Enjoyed the video and always root for Weatherby! I haven’t drank the Big Red koolaide and have no plans anytime soon! Thanks

Thank you for explaining what “inherent accuracy” really is. All cartridges can be accurate if loaded meticulously. Some cartridges are just easily accurate and accurate over a wider variety of ammunition. That’s what “inherently accurate” is. It doesn’t mean that some cartridges will never be accurate.

Nowadays there is a trend among hunters to believe that match grade accuracy is more important than other aspects such as velocity/energy and bullet construction. Originally, Weatherby cartridges were designed as HUNTING cartridges that shoot flat and deliver a lot of energy, which in most hunting situations is of more significant advantage over a super accurate load (0.5 inch tigheter at 100 yards?). However, weatherby cartridges do produce a sharp recoil that doesn’t go well with a super light rifle, which may cause some shooters to develop a flinch, that have contributed in the perception of weatherby cartridges not being accurate enough.

I'm glad that you liked my comment about your 300 WBY and I'm also very glad that your experiences with the 300 and 257 have been so positive. But I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if you had begun your Weatherby adventure with the Mark V rather than the Howa made Vanguard that you probably would not have gotten the accuracy that you did with the Vanguard. I have owned two Mark V's and my accuracy with those guns were not the best. I very much liked the quality feel of the Mark V, I liked the safety, and they fed cartridges as smoothly as anything I ever used. But I just did not shoot the Mark V that well. For a long time Weatherby had a 1.5 MOA accuracy guarantee for the Mark V, and that's actually a pretty good representation of what you can actually expect from it. Dollar for dollar, you get more for your money with the Vanguard. It is made in Japan, and for a very long time they have been turning out excellent rifles under the Howa and the Weatherby names. Weatherby calibers have parallel shaped throats vs funnel shaped throats in the standard magnum calibers and there's been some very accurate rifles in the Weatherby calibers, and you sure don't lack performance with them. But if I were you, I would try to get some range time with a Mark V before spending the money on that new 340 WBY you're wanting. I very much doubt you'll shoot it as well as you've done with your Vanguards.

That's what I've heard. I'll find something the 340 Weatherby will like. Sub MOA is my goal

Hey, man. Thanks for producing such awesome content. I really enjoy it. I agree with pretty much. Everything you show the only reason I'm leaving a comment. It's for the 7PRC. And the 300wby You used a 175 grain bullet. And you put a big O fat 210 grain bullet in the 300 win I get just a little over 3200 feet per second with a 180 grain without pressure signs. With a 26 inch barrel. Saying it really wasn't a fair comparison. Regardless, the weather be as fasthe 300 wind Is way faster than the PRC. Anyway, keep up the awesome contact man. That's the only thing I've seen you post That wasn't a fair comparison. I have all 3 rifles, so I'm not knocking any of them. Just saying, do the data using the same bullet weight and the PRC will be the one in the rear. As far as I'm concerned, My 7 mag. Outperforms the PRC. With a lot better bullet selection. Because the p r c does not do well with bullets under 160gr the 7mag does well from 130gr upto 180gr And my 30 caliber that outperforms the weather be is my 300 rum. Keep up the awesome contact. Man just had to leave a comment. That was the only thing you've ever posthat. I would disagree with and it's only the fact you use the 210 gr bullet And a 175 for the other 2. God bless you brother and God bless America.

Thanks for the feedback. Was not my intent to make the 300 Win mag look bad. I thought using the 210 VLD would make it look pretty darn good. It did have the most energy at 1000 yards

One thing my grandfather has told me that has stuck with me. Is that it doesn't matter wats better it's how good u can get with wat u like to shoot and wats out there. Like he has said someone else in a different gun or the same gun same caliber can shoot just as good as u or the one out ten barrels was also made better. At the end of the day I've come to realize he's right. Man taught me a lot about rifles and shooting. I've circled back around after buying the new calibers to buy the older ones I've not gotten yet. I'm starting to learn his speech even after watching more of ur videos too. Oldies are goodys

Having owned over a hundred Weatherby’s in the the last 50 years and have owned all of them but the 460 which is too much of a good thing. When Roy came out with HIS cartridges he didn’t was they were the most accurate but has the most velocity and hydro shock. Norma made Weatherby ammo for years and the are a big part of Weatherbys success. Norma has always made good ammo for the price which is true even today. Of the 70 or more vanguards I have owned they are more accurate in most of their guns over the Mark 5. The Mark 5 is the strongest action on the market and one of the very hardest to make and much harder then most to make accurate because of all the 9 locking lugs. I bought some of the first Accumarks when they came out and for my dad the 30-378 was his dream gun even though I had bought him 4-5 Weatherbys before it. I payed a &1,000. For the rifle and $500. For 5 boxes of ammo. It shot more accurate then my accumark did in 300 Weatherby which surprised me but that’s the way guns are, just like people each one is different in its own way!

If you are into custom rifles go with the 8 mm Rem mag. 300 Wby brass - 300 H&H brass makes great 8 mm Rem mag brass. I have owned 300 Wby magnum rifles for many years and have one in a Mauser 98 custom and a Weatherby V-5 that is now on its way back to me from Pac Nor barrels because it was defective barrel that like aways Weatherby fails to take responsibility for defective guns. I owned a Rem 700 in 8 mm Rem mag that I would load with 185 grain Barns TSX bullets that I killed everything I could in Alaska and the Northern Oregon coast. There was an employee of Leupold who want the 8 mm Rem mag so bad what he paid for it was $800 more than I bought the rifle for.

I am happy, you are happy. My story, my experience with Weatherby's was not good early on as I worked as a Elk guide in my youth, 70's and 80's. Dude hunter's would show up in camp with Mark V Weatherby's 7mm & .300's most often. Most would not shoot well off the bench- tune up after travel. Yes, I tightened bedding, screws scope rings etc. One client said it was not neccessary, the rifle was zero'd at the factory. If they packed a Weatherby, I would grab my reliable little Husky. I did not like the mark V rifles at all My little old oinion

Good to see. My 300 RUM is finicky on what it likes. Finally found I good load with a discontinued Nosler partition gold 180 grain bullet. It will shoot .2 to .3 pretty consistently at 100 yards. I do have a Timney trigger and HS prescion stock on it. I also had the barrel cryogenically frozen. Too bad they discontinued it. I have about 70 them left. It also shoots as good with 125 grain Nosler ballistic tips pushed around 3950 fps.

I'm guilty of having weatherby as my favorite also. 240, 257, 7mm and 375 weatherby. And not yet but soon I would like to own a 6.5-300 Weatherby. I can't say accuracy is an issue at all. My weatherby rifles are custom rifles chambered in Weatherby. Custom barrels with action or blue printed weatherby action with a new barrel. My 375 was my latest build and that rifle is amazing. Perfect all around.

Sounds like there are a bunch of paper shooters out there. I bought my Weatherbys to hunt with because of their hard hitting and accuracy. I can honesty say that i have never shot anything with either of my Weatherby rifles that i didn't get. You either a Weatherby fan or not. Most Weatherby fans like the feel and look of a nicely made gun. Sure there are other rifles that shoot just as accurate as a Weatherby, and are less expensive, but its just something about that pride that when you pull out a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe from a gun bag the looks and sounds that come from the crowd around you. Pride..... you either love them or hate them. The followers just LOVE THEM..

Question. I have the 210 Berger VLDs reserved for my 300WSMs but have yet to start those projects. May I ask if your father and brother have used that bullet in their 300WMs on game and if so, how did they do?
@williamgaines9784
@williamgaines9784 6 месяцев назад
My only "con" to ever getting a Weatherby has been co$t. However, if I had spent that $, I would expect it to be accurate. I am sure that many have had accuracy/precision issues with Weatherbys because of report and recoil, inducing errors on their part. Those superfast bullets will be loud and will certainly push back harder than a slower bullet, but THAT is what one should expect from those cartridges. Further, my being happy with my lesser cartridges does NOT make me begrudge Weatherby shooters. If I was consistently hunting in places where the average shot was over 250 yards, I would likely spring for those flatter shooting Wbys or the WMs, or the RUMs, of the newest whizzers(but not really as whizzy as claimed) PRCs. But currently 250 is about the absolute limit for me, so "conventional" cartridges are just fine. I enjoy the channel.👍👍

You are getting 3568 FPS and 1/2 MOA groups from you 257 Roy with the 110g AB??? That is crazy good. I am blown away at both the velocity and the accuracy. It's actually going faster... I took it out to 1000 yards and was consistently hitting over my targets. My best guess is I'm getting around 3600 FPS. I loaded the 101 gr LRX at 3814 FPS... accuracy isn't as good. Best I can get is .8 inch groups

I bet 174 Hammer Hunter or 178 Absolute Hammers in the 300 Weatherby would give them all a run for their money. Max load with Re 22 up around 3400 -3500 fps; or have you tried them? That Wby freebore is for speed. The trade off is precision, usually. Not the cartridges fault, but when velocity is high they are normally but not always more finicky, especially with pencil barrels. Guns with enough weight to counter some of the issues that come with high velocity and large bullets are rarely used. And then the heating issues that come with that powder charge and thin barrels compound problems. The rifles are designed for hunting in performance and precision.

I’ve also loaded a few 210gr LRAB in mine and I’m still able to get over 3,000fps with half inch groups. Loaded longer than COAL for that one but really it just comes down to the rifle and what it likes more than anything. Half the fun of reloading is figuring out what it likes anyways.

I guess it depends on what someone considers accurate vs inaccurate. The folks claiming a hunting rifle has to consistently shoot groups under 3/4 MOA to be considered accurate have set a standard inconsistent with what's necessary to ethically take game (as well as a century of hunting out to 400-ish yards with factory ammo in budget to mid-priced rifles). I saw another video today with a guy (Bullets4Bucks) shooting factory 6.5 WBY RPM out of the very light Backcountry 2.0. He shot two groups at 100 yards that were 0.75" - 1" (incl a "pulled shot"). Another guy (Who_Tee_Whoo) shot groups of 0.66" & 0.51" & 1.5" (two holes touching + one flyer) & 0.42" with a Backcountry 2.0 + 338 WBY RPM factory ammo - no way to know if the flyer was him or the ammo, but that's 0.79" avg even with the flyer. Seems accurate to me.

I have a 270 "B" with a fast twist barrel, three 300 "B's" and a 257 and every one is accurate to the point that the thing I often look back on is how difficult it is to buy into all the marketing hype, lies and BS of the latest greatest new cartridge when its already been done by Weatherby. No need to ever question your decision on why you shoot your Weatherby's. Honestly, most new this and that cartridge today is trying to accommodate the Man Bun crowd who fantasizes about shooting long range and not killing long range; ethically. Long live the 300 "B"!

My hunting buddy's 270 Remington 700 is a tack driver. The throat is so long , a 130 gr bullet would only seat about a 1/16 of an inch inside the case neck to contact the rifling. I simply seated the bullet about a 1/4 inch inside the case neck. Crazy ! There is an exception for every rule.

308s are long throated, no? In my experience seating depth gets a lot less fussy with a long jump.

🤔 Interesting! None the Less, If You Need a Magnum to Kill the Biggest of Game Animals, the 300 WBY Will Be a Much Better Choice! And, Even If You Don't, Their is a Good Reason Why the 30-06 is So Popular! I Am Always Amazed As To How Many People Are So Willing To "Praise" a New Cartridge They Haven't Ever Tested As The "Solution" to Every "Problem"! Real Gun Enthusiasts Won't Stop At Owning Just 1 Gun, No Matter How Well It Works! 🤪 It's Like Having Only 1 Tool in Your Tool Box! 🤣That is Just Rediculous! 🤯@@ReloadingWeatherby

👴Thirty Years From Now, Your Going to Look Back on Life and Wonder How People Were Ever Dumb Enough to Believe That Cartridges Like the 6.5 Creedmore, 6.5 prc, and 7mm prc Were Looked At as The Ideal Cartridges For Every Hunting Senerio? And Then Your Grandchildren Will Look You in the Eye and Tell You the Same Thing About Some Other Similar Performing Cartridge and You Will Chuckle! 🤭 History Will Repeat Itself the Way the 260 Remington Supposedly Did Something That the 6.5x55 Supposedly Didn't, or the 7mm-08 Did Something That the 308 Winchester Couldn't, etc... and Then You Will Point to the Wall and Your Trophies and Get a Blank Stair From Them...Because They Will Insist That This "Technology" is "Different", and "Revolutionary", and You are Just an "Old Fudd" Who Doesn't Know as Much as the Cartridge Companies, No Matter What You've Accomplished in Life! 🤪All the While They Ignore the FACT That Many of These Cartridges Were Already Wildcats Developed By Someone Long Dead and Finally Adopted By SAMMI or Altered "Slightly" By Some Ammunition Manufacturer (Example 6.5 prc and the 6.5 Remington) and Are Really Nothing New, Just "Repackaged Ideas"! 🌞 @@ReloadingWeatherby

Oh yeah those weatherby cartridges they are the fudd of all fudd cartridges. Definitely not worth a second look. In fact they are so irrelevant that Hornady decided to compare their 300PRC to the 300 win mag instead of the weatherby. They must have known the weatherby could never hang.. i think Hornady knew something the rest of didnt... 😂
