For the first time ever, Weatherby's excellent new Model 307 action is available with a carbon-fiber stock and a carbon-fiber-wrapped barrel. It's called the Alpine CT, and is a wonderful lightweight hunting rifle.
I took one chambered in 7mm PRC to New Zealand this spring, and was real impressed. It's reliable, accurate, ergonomic, and has all the features I like in a backcountry hunting rifle. And for what you get (custom-level action & trigger; high-end carbon-fiber stock; carbon-wrapped barrel) it just might be the best value on the market. ENJOY!

Thank you for the review! I have been looking at those at multiple stores the last few weeks. I have 2 Wetherby Vanguards that i really love (well, only 1 now - the other was stolen at a deer camp where there was multiple groups). The 307 models fit me so well I don't think I can pass on it.

While I'm sure that is a fine rifle, isn't it AMAZING that we live in a time where a man can go to ANY sporting goods store and pick up a hunting rifle for almost ANY caliber and it WILL shoot MOA!!! For $500 dollars... OR LESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What an awesome time we live in 🙂

Excellent rifle for sure, packed full of features without being super crazy expensive in today’s world 🌎, even though I currently can’t afford it. I wish that this was available in a left hand, but since it’s in that 6-6.3 lb range it can be handy enough. I also like that certain cartridges have shorter more appropriate length barrels. No need for a 24-26 in 308 or 6.5 CM etc…

Definitely an intriguing option for when I want a 7PRC, although the new Bergara Carbon Crest in 7PRC is hard to not give the edge. Just due to the fact of how the standard Steel crest in 6.5 PRC has performed for me so far. Any thoughts on the carbon barrel comparison between the two?

Agree, I don't want to fool around with worrying about making loads without fully burning the powder while losing velocity at the same time. I get the desire, but if I want short might as well shoot a 30-30 like the old timers. I want some 28 inch barrels
@Westerner_
@Westerner_ 18 часов назад
24” is not at all necessary for most short action standard cartridges, 22” is still fine for 30-06 and similar. 24” is really only “necessary” for magnums. I live out west and have never once wished I had a longer barrel, I even have a 20” 30-06 and don’t feel the small handicap is worth the trade off in how well it makes the rifle handle and snag on brush/timber less.

Nice but, Bergara B14 Carbon Crest ftw IMO :) Though I do prefer HFP I still would run with a Bergara barrel. Ultimately though as I think you covered prior with a barreled action and after market stock you can put together what you want which can compare to some of these rifles but a less cost. Cheers Joseph!

Nice. But, I do not hunt with loud brakes, nor long cans which can loosen. My concern is, if I hunt without the brake, will recoil drive the triggerguard into my middle finger knuckle because of the Sniper style vertical grip? Ouch, at the bench! That's why I prefer traditional grips for hunting. Perhaps their pistol grip version resolves this?😮

Got this rifle in 308Win few months ago. I was excited getting it because of really good reviews, but... taking it to a range raised a concern. It does not shoot any better than 2 moa. It paired with Primary Arms 4-16x42 FFP. I tried different ammo from 150 to 180 grain, Federal Fusion, Hornady SST, Norma, Winchester XP. I can shoot my Browning X-bolt 308win same ammo 1moa all day long, but this rifle. I replaced already factory trigger tech with next level trigger tech 1.5-3lb. But still same result, no better than 2moa. Now my next step would be replace cheap stock (it plays a lot at forend) with GRS. What I really like is bolt designand the fact it came with muzzle brake, and fluted barrel.

Weight is one of my biggest factors in a “hunting” rifle for me. Over 7.5 lbs for the bare rifle I eliminate it straightaway. The closer to 6.5 lbs the better. Something I wish more included in their reviews.

@colbyfrazier463
@colbyfrazier463 Месяц назад
You don’t have to pay for a new gun if you don’t want to lol. But weatherby is just trying to keep up with competition. This rifle has what a lot of people want these days, a carbon barrel, carbon stock, and vertical grip. A gun with all that plus it’s around $2000 that’s pretty good deal. All other big brands are going all carbon long range style stocks so they can’t stay with the same guns for the 100 years they’re trying to keep up.
@colesammons2137

Handle one, handle the other, then buy what you want. I can speak from experience, it can be more difficult to shoot a Tikka well at long range. Not saying it can’t be done but these improvements help for repeatability. Just my opinion, but this is America, do what you want!!
