in this video I show you my method of weathering sails to look just as authentic as they do beautiful when installed.
(IMPORTANT NOTICE) the more tea granules you use the darker and more heavily worn the sail will be. until you are familiar with this method I would suggest a lighter application first.. you can always add more later, but it's impossible to remove if you apply to much to start with.. ALSO use less granules on smaller sails. if it needs more just repeat the process again.. if you have any questions please feel free to give me a shout.. 😉👍👍👍👍

Why must people do this to a build they have spent countless hours over. Sails were consumables, a strong storm would blow them away leaving only the bolt ropes. They were constantly replaced with new ones from the ship's stores. This detracts from any authenticity. Furthermore the colour will darken naturally with age and UV light. I have mentored many builders and I discourage this practice.

It's like everything. We all have our own methods, theories, practices etc etc. What may not be right for one may be right for another. Me personally?? I like the weathered look. It adds a sense of drama to the display. It may not be to your taste, but I like it. 😉👍👍👍
