This is the first part of my puppy Jai's weave pole training. He's 11 months old and having a lot of fun with it. I've used the 2 x 2 method for all of my dogs but he's the first one I decided to train weaves using food (thrown into a bowl) so my students can see how this can be very effective for dogs who are not toy motivated. Jai loves toys but this method works well for all kinds of dogs. The last session was filmed today ... stay tuned for the sequel as we progress.
Update on May 15th: here's a link to part 2: • How to teach weave pol...
Part 3 is added on September 21: • How to teach weave pol...
As an alternative, here's a link to a video I did 6 years ago with Hope: • 2x2 weave pole trainin...

I could be making a fool of myself but you seem like the same lady from McCann dogs channel and I’m so glad to have found your personal channel as I love the way you break things down and have always wanted to see how you implement agility training!

I know Kayl McCann... she's an awesome trainer! I'm not her though :) I'm glad you're enjoying the videos, you can also check out my website www.pawsome-connection.com and I have a free FB group ... we'll be talking about agility next week! facebook.com/groups/mypawsomedogconnection

Thanks for posting these videos! I am using them to teach my old (11.5 year old, but still very fit and very active) pointer a new trick! He was my competition obedience dog and, now that we've achieved our obedience goals, we're looking to enjoy some new activities together. I bought a 2x2 set of weaves several years ago, but we never had time to focus on learning a second dog sport. We won't ever compete in agility, but with the help of your videos, maybe we can learn to weave a little (or at least have fun trying!)

It's a lot of fun teaching an older dog new tricks!!! It doesn't matter if you never compete, it's about the journey and learning together and having fun!!!

Nice work! My question is where did you get that fluorescent orange tug toy? Love it !

I think I bought it at a Nationals competition in British Columbia ... I'm a bit of a collector of dog toys, LOL

Thanks for the info. I've never seen a fluorescent fuzzy toy before. I "love it" . Now that I've seen yours I will be searching for one myself.

My girl is more ball driven same idea just with a ball?

absolutely. I switched Jai to toys later on as I wasn't getting the speed I wanted. I have other weave training videos on my website pawsome-connection.com/weave-pole-training/ Hope was entirely trained with toys but slightly different method. make sure to throw the ball in a straight line after the weaves and just as your dog finishes the weaves so she doesn't look at you first. we want that straight forward drive! have fun!!!

Hi Kon, I just picked up his weave training again today, after taking some time off during our long winter, as I was not able to train with any consistency because of icy conditions. I'll post the link here as soon we get to 6 straight poles and I can finish part 2.

Hi Gisela, are the poles staggered. I can’t tell on the video because it is straight on. Thank you for putting this up. Great teaching tool

@@senarabaker3649 yes, the poles are offset to form a channel. Imagine 2 lines with poles 48" apart. From where the dog starts, the left side is closest and the poles on the right side are at the same distance but in-between the spaces on the left side. When you gradually narrow the channel, the poles eventually form a straight line with 24" distance between them. I hope this makes sense!
