Weaving with Water Hyacinth: Eco-Innovation in Ghana 

This spring Global Mamas is proud to introduce our new eco-friendly product line using invasive water hyacinth from the Volta River. Harvesting this invasive species helps restore biodiversity to the river basin while providing much-needed alternative revenue streams for local community members. The raw hyacinth is used in combination with upcycled cotton scraps leftover from our garment production, in addition to recycled glass beads made in local communities. Global Mamas is a fair trade nonprofit committed to providing sustainable opportunities to women artisans in Ghana so that they can prosper while providing for themselves and their families.
