Webb Captures a ghostly Neptune! Explaining the New James Webb Space Telescope Image (4K)

The James Webb space telescope has once again turned its powerful gaze towards our solar system, capturing an incredible image of a ghostly Neptune and its elusive, dusty rings in detail not seen for decades. Neptune has fascinated researchers since its discovery in 1846, yet the only spacecraft to have ever visited the distant planet was NASA's Voyager 2 during a flyby in 1989.
In the visible spectrum Neptune appears as a blue orb in front of a black background, but when we look at it in infrared many more incredible features come into view. It's been three decades since we last saw Neptune and its rings in this much stunning detail and clarity. So what can we see in Webb's latest image of the ice giant Neptune?

The voyager images are amazing, but when I saw this for the first time I had to pick up my own jaw. I never would have imagined seeing our planets with such tremendous details through a telescope in our orbit, least of all Neptune.

Im pretty sure all of the gas giants have rings. It’s just that Saturn’s completely outclass the rest due to their size and overall magnificence. Jupiter, Uranus’s, and Neptune’s rings are all much smaller and definitely harder to see.

This absolutely stunned me the first time I saw this. The amount of detail and color the JWT can produce is nothing, but amazing and extraordinary. I never thought we'd ever see such clarity of our planets like we are now. It's always been in the back of my mind if we'd ever see planets with such details and now its actually happening. I have thought that too - that if there really is an omniscient creator of the Universe, I would love to have a guided tour from them after I die. Imagine seeing the interior seas of Europa, see where Oumuamua came from, watch a star go supernova, or see galaxies millions of light years away...

The JWST is just a mind blowing piece of ingenious technology, we are now seeing things in not only our own Solar System but nearly as far back as time will allow us, when you pointed out the spiril galaxy at the end of the video and said it was a billion light years away, I was purely stunned! Saturn’s rings were the main reason I used to like that planet. In recent years, however, Neptune has become my favorite planet. Despite what we know now with the information we have from _Voyager 2_ and the James Webb Telescope, there’s still so much we have yet to discover. The Great Dark Spot has also been a source of many questions I’d like answered. How did it form and die? How famous is it compared to Jupiter’s Great Red Spot? When was it at its strongest? Triton is yet another bewildering topic. If it was a retrograde dwarf planet once, how did Neptune capture it? What’s the reason for its icy volcanoes? The more answers we get, the more questions we ask. Because of this, science will continue beyond this generation, but that’s okay. More and more discoveries about the Solar System will be unlocked.

What also gets me is that Neptune's core is as hot as the surface of the sun. It's called an ice giant, but really even a couple hundred kilometers above it's core and we'd be boiled alive. Jupiter's core is even hotter than that. Neptune is awe inspiring and dangerously gorgeous.

this planet is close enough to the sun to orbit it, yet so far away it takes 4 hours for the light to reach it. Imagine flipping a switch and waiting that long to see anything while you're blown away by the strongest wind ever discovered.

I really hope observations like this will spark new interest in the ice giant planets so more missions to visit them directly can be funded and streamlined to get there ASAP. I know there are talks about a possible mission to Uranus, but that's still many years off from becoming a reality, IF it happens at all.

Ironically Neptune is actually not as blue as the 1989 processed, contrasted image from the voyager spacecraft. The planets colour is actually similar to Uranus.
