That extra sharpness the 515 has is certainly noticable, and a nice improvement. Iterative update yes but the 515 is superior for sure.

as long as you can still see them seperately it's not a problem. once they give you a folder instead of tabs or on mobile browsers instead of showing you a number they show you a smiley, you know you have a problem

you think these are many tabs? i've done up to 12000 tabs in firefox, doesn't work after. Chrome fails at 1000 edit: of course not all fully loaded, just in the session

Zoom and other applications seem to cap their effective resolution to 720p (sometimes 1080p but the bitrate is kind of poor so it looks closer to 720p quality) not to mention unless the person watching uses fullscreen, they wont see you at 4k.. (though its better to be downscaled than just be poor quality from the get go)

If only Pansonic, Canon, Sony, etc. would make a webcam version of their mirrorless cameras. Basically the camera with out all view finders, storage, wifi/bt, batteries, hmdi, etc. Just sensor, processor, build in mic, USB 3.x connection and lens you can swap out.

Great Idea ! I think old JVC Everio video cameras from 10-15 yrs ago are better than most webcams, apparently you can connect them as webcams via usb (although i havent tried it myself)

the market is too small for them to enter. and the lens is still gonna be expensive. add autofocus and the powerful chip you need to read the sensor, it will still be too expensive for a normal user, and for RU-vid it will only be a transition phase so many will skip directly to a DSLR or mirrorless. You can also use your phone instead.. so it doesn't really make much sense. all I can say is it will likely be like $400-600 at which point you can grab a used DSLR

Even though Webcams are limited, mostly due of sensor size, i still think ones like these are useful, mostly for making videos where extra camera shots are needed, but tricky to setup, like the top down table shot for example. PW515 clearly looks a bit better, and autofocus was definitely what it was missing from the get go. Might pick one up in the future. Also i know that a C-mount lens webcam would be nice, but considering the manufacturing and all, its just better to get a mirrorless anyways, i liked the Lumix G7 when i first got it, that when i saw another one on sale, i bought it instead of a webcam.

no matter what webcam you buy, make sure you spend on good lighting first. even the best camera looks terrible without good light. and a cheap camera with good lighting can look better than the other way around.

Webcam manufacturers are simply doing more of the same, we get even better cameras on our phones. I feel there is a market for decent webcams that are willing to pay more, but less than what a decent DSLR + Lens + Charger + Capture card. I think they should be able to do something around an 1'' sensor with a decent wide lens with a f1.4 for less than $500.

I bought the p513 for over $200 after rave reviews and was pretty disappointed. It seems like you have to have studio quality lighting or something to get good results. If I had only spent $100, maybe I wouldn't have felt as bad.

Overall, I've given up on webcams. I've tried a few and have had "meh" - bad results. I currently have a Kio Razor cam. Don't ask me what possessed me to spend $80 on that hood ornament but I had a temporary lapse in judgment 🤐.

I recently got the Kiyo Pro for 100 bucks and I think it's the last webcam I'll ever buy. I got it looking pretty decent but my next upgrade will be to a DSLR. I feel like for 250 dollars, I might as well just save up because this to me, doesn't look better enough to justify spending that much money.

Man, I recently bought a Kiyo Pro for a hundred bucks and I got it looking pretty good. It's probably the last webcam I'll ever buy because next time I upgrade it'll be to a cam and capture card. There's definitely a curve of diminishing returns with webcams.

Thanks for the vid! I'm running a small toy review channel and have been using my Samsung S21 Ultra to get 4K 60, but don't really need that. I just need decent quality and a great auto focus to work with holding up toys, etc. I might just keep using the phone, but would love to have a cam like this to have permanently set up so I can sit and go for it. Would you recommend it, or just keep using the phone set up?

@@N3groN3rdZ the Elgato webcam is okay but it just can’t compete with a full-fledged cam. A second hand Sony A6000 plus a camlink and lens won’t be much more expensive but will give you way better quality. EposVox does have a video on this IIRC.

@@heyJordanParker I am seeing used a6000 for like $360 and I know for a fact that lenses are pricey. I can get a Elgato Facecam +Elgato retractable green screen bundle for $327 one day shipping... I know the DLSR cameras look very good, but with Nvida broadcast, some good LUTs, and fiddling with the settings, I find it very hard to justify the premium cost.

@@N3groN3rdZ Literally any lens will be better than whatever a webcam in this price range has. You get a used sony 16-50 PZ lens or some 7artisans piece of shit manual lens and you're set. You won't notice the difference in sharpness when streaming in 1080p anyway.

@@heyJordanParker Where are you finding second-hand cameras for anywhere close to the price of the Elgato Facecam? I haven't seen any usable cameras go for less than $350 (it's often much more) since before the pandemic. And sometimes that doesn't even include a lens, so you are easily in the $500+ range before even getting a capture card.

I purchased this cam after watching review after review and I couldn’t get the quality that you have with it. I was really disappointed considering the price. My iPhone 13 max using Camo software works as the best camara I have ever used without going with dslr or mirrorless.

Every webcam footage that you end up seeing, here included, which doesn't look completely dreadful, is FLOODED with light and adjusted in exposure. The inherent noise level and hue resolution in low light conditions of webcams can't keep up even with cheap phones, not to speak of the iPhone. That's just how it is.

I’m on an iPhone 11 and it gets plenty noisy even in basic indoor lighting. Difference is, phone cameras are directly tied to their CPUs and are doing absurd amounts of computational adjustments to remove it out, webcams can’t do that with hardware that’s affordable.

I have a 515 and I was wondering if you have any suggestion on how to manage the GPU usage while using nvdia video effects.I'm using blur effect set to 0 and the GPU usage goes from 22% to 39%. I was wondering if there are any option to fidget with to lower this kind of usage, for example in Nvdia control panel.

PW515 did not handle motion very well. Seemed like there were the equivalent of dropped frames but likely the built noise reduction is evaluating frames and only putting one out when possible or during motion the blurring of of the image is done by the noise reduction engine kind of smears causing the look of dropped frames. Every webcam I have ever tested ends up dropping frames occasionally in motion. Usually just comes down to the onboard processing and exposure weirdness. I don’t have a single webcam video in over 10 years of reviewing them that’s actually a 100% locked framerate lol

I had a canon vixia hf r800 and a cam link 4K. You need to do a bit of setting changing to get a clean hdmi but it works well

3:18 - Since the CamEngine software isn’t available for macOS, I presume then that macOS users would be stuck with the full-auto settings? (And given how terrible the full-auto video looks-such as at 3:18-I’m kinda thinking that this webcam is kind of a nonstarter for any OS other than Windows?)

Costs $300AUD here in Australia; but expected for a camera like this (seems on par with competitors). I wonder how well it works under Linux (probably loose most controls). I recently just bought a cheap Mosonth 1080p60 webcam as a tie in between for purposes of face tracking but it still struggles allot in low light situations, even with its light ring enabled, lol... I do wonder if a decent action camera would just be better as a webcam.

Would having a better Webcam make my greenscreen look better? My room is very well lit but but my green screen streams look weird. Like my hands and forehead have black on them. Lol it's weird you can look at some of my recent stream vods if you want to know what I'm talking about.

Webcams need to get to DSLR levels. Elgato's Facecam is great as a base and other manufacturers should get on board. I just dont understand why they haven't yet. Some of these new webcams are far from perfect for the cost in terms of quality.

Sensors and onboard processing are what hold webcams back. You could put a $1000 lens in front of a webcam sensor and it won’t help anything

5:13 Bro you are a hypocrite. On your PW513 you praise that there was no autofocus and uou want all cameras to not have it going forward and now on this PW515 you say it's a "big improvement"???

I prefer fixed focus - though (I’m pretty sure this was in the video) the distance for it on pw513 wasn’t perfect. Many many commenters complained about the lack of auto. For them it’s a big improvement. For everyone else you can just set manual focus and get it exactly where you want now, which is still an improvement.
