In our fifth continuing medical education webinar, Chief of the Division of Neonatology and Medical Director of the Low Birth Weight Infant Evaluation and Assessment Program (LEAP) Deborah E. Campbell, MD presented best practices for treating children in the primary care setting who previously were hospitalized in the NICU. Dr. Campbell identified some of the continuing health and developmental care needs of high-risk infants after neonatal intensive care, discussed the evolution of the neurodevelopmental and neurobehavioral outcomes as well as later functioning over the life course for these patients, and provided guidance on how primary care pediatricians can help the families of these patients based on perspectives shared by parents.
