Storage tanks for liquefied natural gas (LNG) have been built at many locations around the world during the past decades. LNG offers an attractive method for storing energy or for transporting it overseas. While LNG storage tanks contained some 100,000 m3 of cold liquid in the 1990’s, nowadays volumes of 200,000 m3 or more have become more common. With a typical cylindrical wall diameter of 90 m and height to the crest of the concrete dome roof of some 50 m, LNG storage tanks are substantial pre-stressed concrete structures. The concrete outer tank is designed to protect the contents of the inner tank at all times.
This webinar addresses the design and analysis of LNG storage tanks with DIANA FEM software, using a dedicated user-supplied subroutine. Related linear-elastic, static and dynamic as well as coupled thermal and non-linear elastic static analyses will be discussed.
