When the groom laughed and she told him not to, it made me cringe a bit. Like, girl! That's a genuine moment. That's the part where you burst 3-5 consecutive shots! Other than that, great video.

I wonder what the couple will feel later in life when they look back on these staged memories that in reality didn't even happen, because in most part they only pretended doing stuff they were told. Its kind of fake and the fact that these memories are recreated over and over for almost every couple takes away even the slightest originality of these shots.

I enjoyed your videos. I shoot weddings for 13 years and it is nice to see someone else's way of shooting... i do have different style then you. I must admit that i was surprised that you were looking at screen on the camera instead of view finder.. that would drive me nuts. I have to use only view finder... good for you though... you dont crash your camera to your nose like I do here and there...😁... again nice video

Zdenka Darula...Remember she's using the Sony A7III so the viewfinder on those are great and actual image quality. If you're experiencing eyes strain from looking through the EVF, purchase a viewfinder LCD display attachment, it helps a lot.
@ZdenkaDarula
@ZdenkaDarula 6 лет назад
Thank you so much... yes I have trouble with my eyes... .lots of strain. What is the worst though is that sometimes at the end of the night after the wedding half of my brain kind of hurts from all the flashes I am getting through my eyes. Especially when my 2nd shooter is close by and fires flash... then I get it to my eye … done... THANK YOU though... I actually have Canon M50 which I am playing with and I might take it with me to a work... to replace my second camera. It is only M50 but it is still better then my older camera... lol... love the mirrorless so much lighter.

These western weddings are so calm and peaceful, Indian weddings are chaotic noisy like a war zone or a heavy metal concert.
@April_idk
@April_idk 5 лет назад
That's not just Indian weddings 😂 in the area of Europe I'm at there's usually no time for anything, booked full to the brim weddings. You better keep that camera ready or you will miss the bride when shes racing into her dress and to her ceremony! Also, asking the groom or bride to do certain things again or in a different place as they want to is seen as rude here, so you constantly have to pray you get good locations. Detail shots of accessories and flowers, you better hope they want to smoke or have a food break. Wish we had weddings where people truly spend time actually "wedding" and not just running through the day as if it's a competition.

It doesn't matter if is a cheap body but have something at least

when you work at wedding: camera, lenses, flash people doesn't work its the normality, only the photographer must work everytime good. You need to control any type of uncontrollable situation, with calm and smiling ever. This is the best photographer, be easy and friendly even when you are really tired, nervous or insicure.

Wow. I think this is sealing the deal for me. I am 20 y/o and I was approached by a friend to do her wedding in November. I have never done a wedding before, but I have 8 months to prepare. I am also looking to upgrade my gear since I want to start a side hustle. It is nice to see that you were doing the photos solo, with no second photographer... Do you have someone else helping you with ceremony photos? going to check out your other vids
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 2 года назад
Thanks!!! It is always a good idea to have either an assistant or ideally a second photographer when shooting. The reason for this is if you had a gear issue and don't have backup gear, your 2nd could take over or allow you to borrow a lens/camera, or if you had a health issue, the assistant can help out. I've broken a foot before a wedding and pulled my back out and having a 2nd meant I could still shoot the wedding perfectly without the couple even noticing the difference because my 2nd could take over the things that were difficult for me.

Thank you for this amazing video 👍🏻 I shoot only one wedding and I wish I saw this video before it cause now I have so many ideas how to communicate with clients, some new poses and moments. This video is really good. I just want to ask you if you used kit lens ? I mean 24-70mm? Or is it the f2,8 GM lens ? Can I shoot wedding on kit lens ? I mean I have some art Sigma lenses but I need to buy some zoom lens as well and I dont have big budget for it so if its good option to shoot with kit lens ?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 3 года назад
Thanks!!! So this was using the 24-70 F2.8 GM. So you can absolutely shoot a wedding on anything...better quality lenses typically give a better quality result but the main reason to go higher end than the kit lenses is so that you don't have an aperture that changes when you zoom and also you typically want an F2.8 or lower lens whenever possible as it will let in more light for those dark rooms/venues. I highly recommend the 24-70 F2.8 GM but if that is too expensive for you, get this instead: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a-AFuMwhGuE.html if you use Sony

I will go with my prime lenses for now, I’m still Canon user but I’m going to switch to Sony full frame .For now I use mostly sigma art 85mm or 35mm but it takes some time to change those lenses so I would love to buy one zoom lens and the Tamron you recomend looks pretty good! thank you for your help ! 👍🏻

Thanks!!! Occasionally when people are praying or a super intimate moment but otherwise not with the cameras we have. You can get light flicker and motion in silent shutter unless you are shooting on the Sony A9. With that camera, I'd probably shoot the entire thing with silent shutter

You're missing great shots. You make jokes to create a great atmosphere and people relax and smile in a very natural manner. I didn't hear any shutter sounds during these moments. You're missing great shots. You should be taking photos all the time, including when making jokes. The camera should be in Continuous Shooting HI+ to take photos for at least a full second to get that relaxed and natural expression people have when they're having fun. At least the 2nd photographer should be ready and focus on the people, but there's no reason for the main photographer not to do that too. You'll notice you'll get more keepers from these moments than from the staged poses. Great work otherwise. Love your videos.
@maereanm
@maereanm 6 лет назад
When you have 10-15 people in a group (like in this video), a single shot will get at least a couple of people blinking or making funny faces. This makes the single photo unusable. The only way out of this situation is to take a couple of photos in quick succession while the smiles last in order to have at least 1 photo to keep with everyone not blinking. That's why I use Continuous HI+ when taking photos of groups of people.
@maereanm
@maereanm 6 лет назад
I'm happy for you that it hasn't happen to you to have people blinking in the photos when you get home to edit them. Especially when going for the more candid moments when you don't ask the people to pose but, instead, make a couple of jokes and look for the smiles (as this was my original comment, to take photos in between the poses as well). People make somewhat disturbing faces when they blink. They also roll up their eyes in the process of blinking. I need to take more than 1 photo at a time for a group of 10-15 people to not have anyone blinking.

i agree you and that's what I am doing this is the only way i make sure i can use ''moment'' of the picture
@jonathonnewton6337
@jonathonnewton6337 6 лет назад
Meh, not every moment needs to be a photo... Honestly, if you want your jokes, sense of character or anything to have meaning outside of just making people smile for a photography, then you shouldn't have the camera shooting away 24/7.
@ddawg3230
@ddawg3230 6 лет назад
I don't think he/she was saying 'shoot 24/7'. They are saying 'shoot at the right moment', and 'try using tools like burst mode during group candids because unless they are posing looking straight into the camera, there is a high chance that taking one or two photos won't get all the subjects in the right moment (eyes closed/ looking away/not ready/awkward, etc). You can later just select one and delete the rest during editing....I don't see whats the big deal here... Its true that you need not obsess over every moment (if you do you will end up with twice the number of photos and wont eat or sit during any event), but that's different from the moments you yourself are actively part of and the choices you make there wrt when you click.

So most of it is post although you will notice this particular room was very white walled with white curtains. There is another window in the room which you can see behind us and that is helping to give the room a bit more light. But we do raise the shadows a bit in post which depending on the camera you have, is super easy to do when shooting RAW. The A7RIII has some of the best dynamic range of any camera for example

I'm pretty sure their wedding will be small and will not have as much going on as this. Now I know that direction is key. Yep! I used to have a little issue before but they improved things with the RIII and 7III so now I feel like the colors are absolutely fine. At this point it's just personal preference and a little bit of editing could make them look identical

Agree that bridal prep, and "getting ready" is what makes me the most nervous, because it's so important, yet so easy to fark up, by forgetting something... ceremony easy as cake, imo. On another note, looks like I'm wasting my time using a mono light for bridal party, and bridal portraits... /sigh.

Not that my opinion matters. But I shoot Monday through Sat all through the year. I shoot portraits every day for a living. Weddings on the weekends for the last 20years. Just gonna drop some helpful criticism. 1). This shooting in live view is gonna damage your technique. It’s very bad technique to be holding your elbows out from you sides shooting portraits like the groom outdoors. Get away from this amateur mode of holding your camera out in front of you and looking at back of camera like it’s a smart phone. Tuck your elbows back in to your sides. I feel like you started this recently after buying your first mirrorless camera. Abandon this way of shooting or you’ll start to find yourself with tons of camera shake from these modern high res high pixel density sensors. 2) Learn and Start using off camera lighting. This available light stuff looks good sometimes, but her eye sockets were awful. The overcast day without lighting creates raccoon eyes and women are not crazy about this. Her eyes look dead in these images. They’re sunk in and no catch light. The window light shots will show you which direction to go. This is what you want to reproduce outdoors. Directional controlled soft light. I realize there are different styles of photography. But there’s still some rights and wrongs. Dead eyes are not good for any style. I see so often people use the crutch as “I’m a natural light photographer”....which is usually code word for “I don’t know how to use flash” Switching to off camera lighting will give you way more control other entire scene with regards to color, contrast, mood, dynamic range etc. Available light you just get what you get. You have good directional skills and interact well with clients. Appear to have good tike management skills for weddings and attention to details for different shots. Just don’t forget the technical part of the game.

6 minutes in and I'm so happy I found this. I've been shooting weddings on-and-off for half a decade, but I'm looking to launch the business officially in the New Year and this has so much useful information.

1:48 This is my No 1 bug bear. I love the LCD on the current Sony's, it is perfect, look how easily Sally just gently eases the screen to make composition easier. Yet if she was shooting with a camera with a flip out screen then, she would have to pull it out with her left hand, twist and re-align and hold her left hand under the LCD...then she needs to look away from where the lens is pointing to shoot. Then as she moves away she would either have to leave the screen out all the time (so it is ready quickly for another low or high angle shot) or with her left hand re-align, twist and put it back in place, then soon after to get another shot...she will need to pull it out with her left hand, twist and re-align...aaaand repeat. So many RU-vidrs are calling for a flip out screen for future Sony Cameras, why? because they Vlog. Proper professionals who film and do stills do not want a flip out screen, it is a burden, a pain, it's conspicuous, awkward and nearly doubles the width of the camera. Please stop asking for the flip out screen. Oh and Sally, a great video.... and goodness me you are so damn cute :)

I also had a total camera fail in the middle of a wedding. But I decided to tell the couple when it happened so they understood my sudden breakup in the workflow. I think they would have questioned it anyway if I was not frank and honest with them, and the fact that I initiated the explanation cleared any misunderstandings. OK; this might not suit all situations, or all couples, but in my case it was the right thing to do.

This is such an amazing video, thank you so much for sharing! I love how you are so natural with you direction and posing....I got so many tips! I have just transitioned over from a Nikon D750 to this camera.....what metering mode are you guys using? Thank you :)
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 4 года назад
Thank you so much!!! So glad it helped. Traditionally we shoot in manual so don't depend on the meter that much. Usually it would be standard evaluative metering though and we would be mindful of our background. If the background was bright, we would go one stop over as the camera will try and make the image darker and if we are on a darker backdrop, the opposite will be true.
