I always love to watch Canadian/US wedding shoots like this. Here in Bulgaria it's all about Flashes, and pre-determent shots, like it's a fashion photoshoot for a front cover of Cosmopolitan. It's very strange, since we use the most amount of gear, but we take (tipicaly) the least amount of money per wedding (poor country). The photographers I work with (I am a video shooter) are always carrying 2x AD600's, 2x AD200's and 2x V1's, and not a single shot is taken without a flash.. so much hustle honestly feels like it takes the enjoyment of the wedding away.. Lightstands, and softboxes left and right, and a constant flash of light in your eye everyfew seconds..
I am also a wedding cinematographer From india. i watched the full video. in the last of the video, you made me feel exactly like i feel in real life while returning back to our home at the end of a wedding session... indian traditional Wedding is very different... We have to work 2, to 4 day for a single wedding... at wedding day we have to work very harder, if function started todays evening, it will complete tomorrow morning after sunrise... during this period photographer / videographer has no time to rest...
If you want truly difficult ceremony lighting, I cordially invite you to Scotland for our plethora of dark castles that haven't seen the light of day since 1593 🤣
@@Tchock16 both 🤣but lot's of windows and actually some sunshine throughout the day.. still froze to death, even England had a heat wave that day hahaha and the Scottish videographer was like "oh it's so hot today"😳
Try Northampton. Guildhall has yellow walls, red carpet, dark ceilings and murky windows even on a bright day. No flash. No additional lighting allows. Then it rains mid ceremony
hahahahaha I really get the "shoot everything you can get once there is clouds during the ceremony" because SAME. Sometimes you just gotta be super fast when the opportunity presents itself

I just shot my first wedding in the same lighting situations and about the same size room and it was so stressful. The lighting was perfect until the ceremony started and then the sun came out and there was so much bad shading and lighting and it didn't stop until it was over. Thankfully I got to fix a lot of my shots by taking photos of the couple /family and some of the same positions as they were in the ceremony. Boy though it was not my idea of a first wedding shoot 🤣
Wow Mr. Jackson, I just watched this freshly uploaded Amazing Wedding Video full of educational material, and really enjoyed it as well. Thank you brother
My first weddings were in the late 80s using Pentax 6x7 for portraits and a couple of Canon F1 bodies for everything else. At the end of a job, I felt as if I'd run a marathon. Now I'm 56. With so many under my belt, they're kind of easy now to me, and I'm doing my best work ever. I avoid the big weddings nowadays. I like the nice, small weddings like this one. And where I used to hate specular light and would use supplementals to try and defeat it, modern cameras and software can provide easy solutions. I do far fewer than I used to do, however, because I always enjoyed specializing in high-quality wedding day (and pre-wedding day) studio-style portraits... something nobody gives a flip about these days. I most enjoyed couples who elected for dramatic, classic bw Hollywood (Hurrell, Bull, Jones, etc) portraits, with fresnel lights, gobos, and dramatic posing. I'm hoping that interest in that sort of stuff comes back one day. (Printed albums, too.) Thanks for sharing the BTS look. It's nice to see how younger people are doing it these days.
Love the 35mm shots!! My husband and I did a similarly tough venue last week-a tiny boat dock in the middle of the sound. He was doing video and I was doing photo. Our cameras were basically stacked on top of each other both shooting around 35 mm. But I love your attitude through a these situations. You rock!! We just joined your community on your website.
A quick.question ..how many pictures do you shoot the whole wedding..?? Roughly and how many pictures are given to the client for final selection..and are they seperately selected for print on album and how many nos?
I just deliver a final gallery of about 500-700 images for a wedding day. Maybe 300-400 if it’s a shorter day. They don’t select anything and I also don’t print anything for clients unless it’s something large format that they want done properly
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto that's fair enough .. perfect and I say that's professional delivery. From where i come ..beleive me there are photographers who shoot 3000- 6000 images which I don't know for what . Thats the whole day. And the selection they give their client is 350 -400 pics . I feel that's an eyewash and portray a foolish stunt to impress the client or the other trial the photographer perhaps isn't sure what he is shooting. .i think that outrageous..!!
Did they ask you to use the film camera, or were you doing it just to challenge yourself? I can't imagine changing rolls of film and light metering to be a smooth workflow in a fast paced wedding!
I first i started with my D5300 and 50 1.8 , but because of the crop(75) it was to tight , then i upgrade to the D750 and use the same 50 1.8 from nikon, i shoot for one year, it was ok, and in the next season i buy the Tamron 35 1.4 and i love it. I was with a new frined that does weeding for 10+ years and it ask me if i only use the 35 all day, and i say yes and i love it. He is with the zoom 80%. And i told thim this, i can easy go from stil to zoom , but a zoom person it will be hard to ajust. BTW in 2 weeks my R7 will come with the 16 and 35 , and i can w8 for the 24 1.8 to release
Got my sights set on the Max Lens mod for the GoPro Hero 9 I own so that I can record my weddings like this as well. Can you link us that L mount? Would a regular GoPro cold shoe mount work just as well?
Do you find that you automatically take more portrait orientation shots than landscape at weddings? Great inspirational video, as always. I really appreciate it.
I’m just a samyang 85 1.4 boy now. I used the regular 85 1.2 most of last year, but got it before the DS was shipping. I haven’t actually used the DS or seen one in real life yet
Great footage, thank you for that! What about the camera guy and no stabilizer (at least a gimbal of some sort)? Was he just recording for himself, for fun, as extra footage apart from photos or he's a human steel arm? I mean I can't imagine doing a video footage without my Ronin, it would look like Blair Witch Project.
@@Darkest_Soul_187 Alright, so a full blast flashlight up someone’s nostrils when he’s crying for help plus shake this camera well while running will be a great hint for a wedding photography, thanks bro!
try the sun in Sicily if you want the real hard light nightmare. You have to master light and shadow in a creative way. Or try to come in little towns in Italy to see how hard is to shoot in shitty crappy houses with small rooms and a lot of mess. Italy is a beatiful country, but Tuscany and Amalfi are only 1% of what you see outside. Sometimes you guys do not realize that you have giants spaces, large venues, cool furnitures... you can literally have the best light and environment scenarios and use them with comfort. The real challenge is to have some cool ideas in places where you have no space, or good light.
I shot my friends wedding in a 16th century courthouse. A couple of Tiny windows. Dark stone floor. Low ceilings. Ebony paneling. Lotttttts of ebony paneling. Yeah.
Hi thinking of not using flash hotel getting ready and first look. Is this possible got v1 What is ur advice got wedding on Saturday? Can I shoot nature Got r3
also you always mention the sound of you taking photos- even if it was heard by guests have they cared before..? it’s literally your job to take photos! i’d be happy as a bride hearing you get that many 😂
i can’t tell if you were joking or not haha. but is using the 50mm 1.2 at 1.8 literally the same as just having the 1.8? because i don’t ever wish my photos were creamier, i really love the 1.8 though i’m sure i would not complain with 1.2 haha.
Hey Alexis! I do actually own the 50 1.2 and the 50 1.8 and I use them both all the time :) I almost always shoot the 50 at 1.2, especially for photo, but when I’m shooting video I often do 1.8 or F2 just to get a touch more context in my video shot. Otherwise, I absolutely LOVE how 1.2 renders images and peoples skin tones etc. The 50 1.8 usually stays in my car as a backup, and sometimes I use it as a lightweight alternative to the heavy Nikon 50 1.2. But mainly, the 1.8 is so beaten up that I can’t sell it hahaha
I’m adding all new presets to the current presets. So anyone that bought the presets 3 years ago continues to get free new presets :) I don’t suspect that this will change for the future
Heyy, question here. For this type of wedding, tight and darkish rooms. Would u be confident using the tamron 35-150 at 35 ? I have the tamron plus a 50 1.4. Just not sure if I should invest in a 30 prime since I have the tamron. 🤔
