So this was SUPER helpful! What is the best way to handle guests seeing cheaper options than the room block contract offered? I am having a destination wedding and in order for me to have the wedding at the site, I will need to have 80% of the guests stay at the hotel. I have an agent but she can be a bit unresponsive and time is winding down for our window to agree to the room block contract or not. Should I go out on my own and try to book the rooms?
Hi Sharinda! Thanks so much for watching! The best way to keep guests from seeing lower rates would be to send out the direct link to your room block, so that they just go directly there from the start. If they don't have to go searching for the hotel to stay at on their own, they likely will book through your link for convenience, and won't check on other rates and websites! You can also ask the hotel that if they do find rates at a lower price, would they honor them, or perhaps add those booked reservations into your block for you? Lastly, definitely be sure if you want to book the room block, because many do come with attrition clauses, meaning if you don't book a certain amount of rooms, the hotel does still hold you responsible for the rooms that are remaining in your block, though you can always see if that attrition clause is negotiable.
