As a mexican, thats bot what the tradition is. Traditionally, the couple gets custom centerpieces, ususally fresh flowers and those are taken by the guests, along side anything that was bought by the couple. We usually do custom saltshakers, custom napkins, basically, everything except the cutlery, china and glassware. However, if they stated tgey were not to take it, they just shouldn't have. Also, more on the tradition, we don't usually rent the tables decor, so thats why it gets taken, the hosts don't want 50 centerpieces to take home.

Even if there are small gifts left in the tables for each individual there are some who still try to take the decor away and usually are the older ones who do this, mainly the women.

Nah those people were just rude, the "tradition" just includes the centerpiece (usually a small vase or smth), not everything on the table 😭 Those family members would've been cussed out if they tried this in Mexico

A lot of Puerto Ricans do this, but not the whole table, just the decorations on the table. This is insane.
