Classical music is what i most associated with the cello, so i did some digging and found a Croation duo called "2cellos" - those guys rock the cello. There's also 2 teens on AGT who were similarly awesome...Emil and Dariel
This was such an epic scene. Thankfully the subtitles on Netflix let you know every song being played in the show, so I didn't have to hunt this down. I love this series so much. Edit: I am female, I see some very nice questions over my sex in the replies. And it was one of those "I know I know this, why can't I remember the song name?" deals.
@@OoO-nv1lb turn the closed captions/subtitles on. Granted, I have American Netflix so I know they're in the English subs, but I don't know about other languages. Look for "audio and subtitles" on the screen, if that's what you mean by your comment.
But I hope you realize she doesn’t actually play the cello here. She’s only onscreen for approximately 37 seconds total. She only has to mimic a very small portion of it, yet for some reason people think she plays the cello at concert level. Playing cello for only 2 months doesn’t even qualify someone as a beginner. People also forget that in order to play this piece, she’d have to be able to read complex music. Beginners are lucky to know where C4 is. It takes years of hard practice to get to concert level, and even then, most people just can’t get there. I’m a classically trained musician and singer. I’ve seen these comments everywhere, especially on TikTok. So I’m leaving this comment but not really directing it at you. Just at the world in general. Lol!
@@dazzlingdeb8427 yeah I have no idea if she played anything from this alone. People use software to put together orchestra versions of songs these days.
It’s really not, I’ve been listening to this song for months and it’s greatly helped me through all the difficulties of life, and now it’s been butchered by Netflix and most people won’t see the song for the masterpiece it is
Jenna been getting all the hype for this show and while she absolutely deserves it the guy who played Thing was crazy good, it's not easy to have good scene presence when you're just a hand XD
Reminded me so much of WestWorld. Gave me chills watching her play it bc she really was into that and had such a black and white attitude to fit the music. Loved it. Scenes like this is what makes a movie/tv show great, and even re-watchable. Hope for a second season
I've known how to play the cello since third grade and the moment I finished this show I learned how to play this. It was exhilarating to feel your fingers fly across the fingerboard with each note.
I counted it… the editing makes you think she’s onscreen playing this, but the camera is only on her for about 37 seconds (give or take a few seconds).
@@laladiablo1162 I’ve been listening to it on Spotify. It’s a brilliant arrangement too. I wish Netflix would give credit to the orchestra and the arranger. It just says Wednesday or the fictional Nevermore Academy Orchestra. They stay in character!
Some have probably binge watched the whole first season. I'm still on episode 2. What's brilliant about this scene and this whole series is how big a puzzle it is. You have no idea who the good guys and bad guys are. This scene gives some clues, but nothing definite. It's smart storytelling on top of a brilliant re-imagining of this classic song. Loving this show so far.
The whole show was incrdible but this scene was probably the best scene out of the whole season. I will literally buy a cello just so i can learn how to play this first
I play cello and if you want to buy one go for it! But do be warned that this is incredibly hard to play and won't be your first song, but I'm sure you'll be able to if you do go ahead
@@mynameis11111 you can't look like your playing you finger it correctly or you do not. Now even if a cello master being filmed they would use a studio recording of them playing not the set version most of the time as it not set up to be ideal recording set up and the need to hide the mikes less than ideal for recording.
@@milferdjones2573 I play so that’s how I know she’s not playing it correctly, so yes she’s making it seem like she’s playing, it’s why she’s an actress because she’s acting and obviously she made a lot of people believe she is playing because of the ongoing debate on whether she can actually play this correctly or not, 2 months is in no way enough time to play at this skill level even if she spent 24/7 for 2 months unless she’s a prodigy And I can tell from the first couple of seconds that she’s not playing it or playing along with the soundtrack, she doesn’t even do vibrato correctly
Hopefully this show gets more young people into learning music theory and playing instruments. It's a gift that evolves with you throughout your whole life and you'll always find new ways and challenges to up your skills.
Since binging the entire show in one night with my mom, this song has been living in my head rent, and the only problem is that no matter how good a song is, playing on repeat for too long will make it awful, and so I'm struggling to moderate the amount I'm listening to this because it's SO GOOD
I play cello and a lot of people don't know what it is or just call it a giant violin. I love the recognition that Wednesday gave to this instrument I tried so hard to sound professional bc everyone else sound like university music scholarship ppl lmao
learning that jenna hadn’t played cello before her role as wendsday and how she played this song is incredibly impressive coming from a (former) cello player. to learn how to play this song with all of its complexities music theory wise, she did incredible. it’s not easy to play such a fast paced song with lots of shifting to different positions, double stops (playing two strings at once), staccato (short, quick notes), spiccato (bouncing the bow on the string to play notes), legato (playing two different notes on the same bow stroke), and vibrato (the small movements of the finger on the string to produce another layer to a note, typically done on longer notes to not feel flat). jenna is incredibly talented and she has my utmost respect
As a real cello player, if you were also a cello player you would know that she’s not actually playing this and it would be impossible for her to play without lots of previous experience
I loved this scene and love the arrangement. I would love to play this, but as a cellist, I couldn't help but cringe at the fake cello playing. I read up about it and saw that she took cello lessons 3 months before they started filming, and she said she has so much respect for people who play the cello, as it is a hard instrument to learn, so I know she put a lot of effort in and i appreciate it, but it is clear that she did not play the correct notes. I know that she was pretending to play what was heard in the soundtrack, but even at pizzicato parts (where it sounds plucked) she is still bowing the cello. Sorry if I sound overly critical, but I can't help it as a musician 🙈🙈 overall, I loved this scene and loved that they incorporated her character's iconic cello playing into this series. I hope that it will cause more people to want to play the cello.
I play violin and it’s totally understandable. I was really hoping she would play something right because they’ve been filming and practicing for so long but damn. Really set the bar low at this point 😭
Eddie Munson revived Metallica in Stranger Things and it was a pretty big thing. Shall we say a word about Rolling Stones and this masterpiece? I loved this scene though
I was on Spotify, and this song came on and I was like I need to hear Jenna play this rn, it's so intricate and beautiful playing. They did an amazing job on this scene
I love to listen to this masterpiece again and again. First in Westworld and now in Wednesday. It is truly a masterpiece which no one can avoid to listen. I am sure people love it. Thanks to its creator.
That song was the best part of the entire season. Hollywood, get AI to write the next TEN 32-week seasons, please. (She actually learned to play the cello and that song for the show!)
So, I saw The Rolling Stones live, and I saw Mick Jagger kick ass while performing Paint it Black, one of my favorite songs. This cello version is pretty freakin’ awesome
I love the Addams family when it was an animated series on CN. I knew it was a matter of time before it had its own Netflix series and I love Wednesday's character. Jenna Ortega did such a great job. Here's hoping for a great season 2
I watched it in disbelieve. Either Jenna is highly gifted and learned playing the cello in record time (She, apparently, had 2 months of cello lessons every day.. could work for a good basic understanding of that very difficult instrument..), or they CGI'd her head on a professional musician in costume. Afa I could see, everything was pretty close for playing along with the soundtrack(apart from the spicato's, that is). The finger setting, the way she handled the bow, the phrasing, the nuances, the rhythm.. everything. Well.. however they did it, it's an epic variation on an existing song, and the cello is só apt. Hard to get to grips with, deep, dark , but also utterly romantic with a lyrical beauty that can touch the heart. In short: Wednesday. I wonder which musician actually played the part on the soundtrack.
