A little bit of a chat on the new Wednesday series and how it was so unnecessary to advertise using blatant queer baiting. The series itself was cute and I think the plan is to have Wenclair to be a couple in future seasons, but this marketing was very misleading.

I canceled my Netflix account because of this. Disgusting to see how much Netflix hates lesbians

there is actually a second queer relationship in the show aside from eugene's moms, though it is very understated within the show. its quite literally in the background. that relationship is between Enid's befriend Yoko and Bianca's bestfriend Divina. Yoko i believe was meant to play a bigger role in the show but her parts ended up getting cut. but you see them together quite often in the background, including being at the weathervane with enid when the normie boy asks her to the raven and they go to the raven together. this has since been confirmed by the actresses that play their characters.

The lyco therapy and gay conversion camps parallel logically just doesn't hold up for me. I don't see how not being ABLE to wolf out is the same as being gay. It's like the writers came up with the idea to have her go to conversion camp so she wouldn't be Isolated from her "pack", but then when the rest of the parallel doesn't hold up they just said fuck it, close enough. And Hollywood wonders why we think they are prioritizing "the message" over actually creating good shows and movies. I mean it's not wrong to try and say something using shows and movies as a platform but you just have to do it right.

I agree. The analogy isn't really there, since "wolfing out" seems more like a biological process rather than something related to self-aceptance, I think it's more akin to getting the first period. The comparison with the gay stuff was only made because there is a "conversion camp", and maybe the writters did intend it that way. Honestly the whole camp thing is ridiculous and utterly unnecesary if you are going to make her wolf out on her own in the end. I think they just tried to made a clever analogy and failed. Making a parallel with the period would have been smarter, and funnier, but oh well, everything has to be about lgbt nowadays so I guess no.

That whole conversation camp pamphlet scene would only make sence if she DID NOT want to wolf out. But she does.

@@TheMrPeteChannel Exactly. It makes no sense. What's "wolfing out" supposed to represent? Accepting yourself as gay? Or accepting yourself as hetero? Since the parents are hetero and are the ones pushing that, it would seem the later. So she was acting gay, but her parents wanted her to be hetero, wanted her to go to the camp, she didn't go but in the end she was hetero all along? Is that supposed to be the meaning of the alegory? So she was like in a hetero closet, and was unnacepting of her heterosexuality? But she was already hetero, she was dating a guy, two guys actually. Yeah, it makes no sense.

If any group is still unrepresented in Hollywood it's aromatic people. It also is believable if the charecter of Wednesday in this show haves no sexual feelings.

Sandman really showed how you can turn all straight peoples to become the bad person. I have seen more bad than good, and well played by the creators

I really don't think Enid and Wednesday seem like a good match, maybe a good match for entertainment purposes, since they're so different, but not romantic. I would actually say Bianca seems like a better queer romantic match for Wednesday. However I hope they don't set her up romantically with anyone, but if they do in a tasteful manner that fits the show.
