After the never-ending job of fighting weeds, we decided to give this woven weed fabric a try. We are hoping it will be a game changer for weed control. We will keep you posted.

It seemed like a back saver but we ended up placing most of them in by hand because it was quicker.

I bought it 3 years ago and installed it with the staples. The first big wind came along and I had to retrieve my woven plastic from the woods. Replacing the plastic after planting is virtually impossible. This year I'm burying the edges 3 inches deep and it hasn't moved an inch. Another issue I had was finding all the landscape staples, been picking them out of the garden for 3 years. Wish I spent the time to bury the edges 3 years ago.

We had the same problem with some of our rows due to the west wind getting up under the edges and pulling them up. Our garden runs north to south. If I knew then what I know now, I would have overlapped them like shingles starting from the east and working west so the wind would spill over them. Instead of get under them. With extra staples, our fabric is secure. We love the fabric though. It helps keep the weeds out and conserve water. Thanks for watching. -G

I like it. Yalls garden is gonna be in southern living magazine. I went back to row hills because of the rain and my location will drown plants if i dont raise them a few inches .

Ha! I don’t know about that. With both of us working full time we hope that it will keep it from looking like an abandoned garden after the weeds get ahead. We struggle with weed control. Ours may be too wet too, time will tell. Good luck this year. We are looking forward to watching yours grow!

How'd those staples work? Did they hold it all down ok? Did they rust out?
@gigiplusthebeard

We had to add extra staples because the wind would get under the fabric and pull it up. They have not rusted so far. However, I think they would stay in the ground better if they did have a little rust on them. Try to overlap them so the prevailing winds will roll over them instead of get under the layers if you can. We loved using the fabric. Saved us lots of time in weeding and getting the garden ready to plant. -G

Did the fabric overheat the garden surface during the heat of summer? 😊

No it does not. Another channel we watch has demonstrated that the temperature was not elevated.

My soil is so sandy I can't get the staples to stay in. What can I do?

We had to add extra staples out ours too. If you have prevailing winds from one direction, try to make the last layer of fabric on that side of the garden. That way the wind can spill over the layers of fabric instead of getting under each layer. The same fashion that shingles are laid overlapping to spill the water off. Our garden rows run north to south with winds coming out of the west . Our last row was on the west side so the wind would spill over the layers. As the staples get older and a little rusty, they will grab the soil better too. Good luck. We had a hard time keeping it down too before we added extra staples and layered the fabric that way .

@gigiplusthebeard we did add extra but they just pop up. We get some pretty bad winds too. I'm going to get the 9 inch staples see if that works. That's what has been recommended.

@@nancykahler4586 we had the 9 inch staples. I think I would have had trouble keeping shorter staples in too.
