Weed identification is a problem that keeps people from being able to fix the solution to their lawn. If you don't know what type of weeds you have, you may not know how to fix the problem. In this video, I show you an ugly centipede lawn and identify a few weeds. Then I go over several practical tips on how to improve the lawn. I discuss mowing practices, water, weed control and fertilization. I also give specific products to control specific weeds. Enjoy!

1:58 OMG thank you for that!!! That stuff has been kicking my ass here lately and couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was or how to control it...seems like everything I sprayed on it wouldn't do anything. Now I have some research to do and get a better game plan on how to manage this stuff. This stuff spreads like wild fire. FYI I'm in south Louisiana and have a mix of centipede and carpet grass and most of the stuff I would spray on it would kill the grass and not the weed.

Lespedisa is one that our highway department in Mississippi recommends for erosion control and planting on steep slopes. . I hate that stuff. Thanks for all your videos Jason

Yes! I have spurge or lespedeza everywhere. I need to bite the bullet and buy some of the products you talked about in the video. Thanks for the info 👍

Same here. Have some clients where this stuff just keeps the dirt exposed and won't let any grass cover it up. When are you planning to spot treat or will you spray larger areas?

I have larger areas, so I will wait until I see it in the younger stages, and spot spray and blanket spray the larger areas. It's everywhere in one spot in my yard. 👍 Not a pro here, by the way. Have done gardening my whole life, so take this as a grain of salt, but the same stuff that applies to a garden applies to a good yard.

You said light use on podiamine in early Jan. I thinking using Pendimethalin for fall and Atrazine for post emergent. What are your thoughts on that? What products do recommend for spring pre emergent and post emergent? This year I used Image southern for post and I used Diothrophil for pre emergent. There were improvements. But I'm still searching better products for my centipede lawn.

This lawn is about like ours, however, I would prefer organics on the lawn. I do use lime!

Organics are cool as long as you're ok with never getting a completely weed free lawn.

So when are you saying would be a good time to apply spot treatments of Change Up to the lespedeza? You mentioned "transitions" being a bad time, but do you just mean Fall to Spring transition?

I would not use it during spring transition when the grass is only partially green. I would wait until it is fully green
