This is the most precise definition/ analysis of the core issue at the centre of any addiction: control and predictability; the lack of trust at the core. Surrendering; letting go and praying for willingness and courage to let go and follow God’s providence are the answer - and God gives us such an adventure in return, and most importantly His friendship and blessed communion with the saints and angels. Active addictions are hell.
Marijuana is addictive. I used small micro doses for two years which lead to heavier use and abuse. When I quit, I was definitely physically addicted. I would sweat profusely while getting clean. My anger levels were much higher towards the end of my abuse of it. My husband struggles with addiction. He has a hard time abstaining, but God spoke to him and he seems to be doing better. Most marijuana abusers don’t even realize the effects it has on the people around them. The relationships suffer. The side effects are minimal, but huge when trying to be in an intimate relationship with others. It definitely makes you less connected to others. Despite the “feeling” you think you’re getting spiritually, it’s nothing like the feeling you get being in Gods presence. Occasional use can be beneficial, but once it becomes acceptable for regular use, it’s over. Time to end the use. Trust me. I’ve watched so many lives struggle and suffer because of weed. Just say no kids 😉
As an on again, off again user for the past 25 years, I can attest to the fact that marijuana is definitely addictive despite many saying otherwise. I am a strong practicing Catholic convert of 4 years now who had reached such beautiful heights of contemplation through constant prayer & talking to God daily, but when I get back into one of my cycles of this addiction, I lose it all & "other" spiritual experiences take it's place. It is such an empty, sad, dark void of a feeling. You can still feel God standing there, waiting at a distance for you to come back around again... Prayers for anyone dealing with this &/or other addictions... God Bless 🙏🏼
I know exactly what you’re talking about, and I agree with everything you said. Prayers for you on your journey. Please say one for me as well. I live with a lot of chronic pain, so sometimes the pull back to it is so strong. 😢

But maybe they're wrong. Maybe all drugs are no good. Nicotine: medically reported negative health effects no matter the form Weed: medically reported negative health effects no matter the form Alcohol: Newer research suggests there might be no healthy amount to drink Caffeine: apparently okay in moderation but medicine might decide even a cup a day is unhealthy one day Basically: Christians, like everyone else, can be hypocrites. No church can teach what's 'right' - you need to figure it out on your own with the help of Spirit. If you want to. But please don't reject an idea just because it comes from a person or an institution that's inconsistent. You'll end up in a very stuck space if you do.
@@sia9907 I actually have a medical condition that makes me significantly at risk of cancer. Nicotine has been shown to increase my risk of lung cancer, but the doctor told me it increases it less than it decreases my risk of cancer from my condition and so recommended I take up smoking. Kind of ironic, I know, but this is why you can't just have blanket bans. There are harmful side effects to just about anything if used in the wrong context, that's no excuse for criminalizing it.
Weed is very addictive, anyone who tells you otherwise is lying (to you and to themselves). In my early 20s I was a massive pothead and would get stoned almost every night. Pretty much the only time I was sober was when I was at work. Eventually I had to force myself to stop smoking weed for several months, simply because I was spending so much money on the stuff. As an aside, there ARE certain types of CBD products that will get you high, specifically the stuff labeled as Delta-8. You often see it in states that ban weed but allow CBD products. Delta-8 is a tetrahydrocannabinol closely related to Delta-9, the primary psychoactive ingredient in weed. Because Delta-8 is weaker than Delta-9 it is technically legal, but it can still produce similar effects (and it will also show up in drug tests). So if you really want to try CBD products for pain relief (whether or not that works I have no idea), be sure to avoid anything that has Delta-8 on the label.
I talked to our now deceased parish priest about the issues of marijuana use as I was concerned for my eldest daughter's best friend who was a user. Sadly the priest said "there is nothing wrong with smoking Marijuana". My daughter in the end due to her friend who tried to entice friends to use the "weed" - left the friendship. I was very proud of her.

The New Testament Greek word translated “sorcery” is pharmakeia, which is the source of our English word pharmacy. In Paul’s day, the word primarily meant “dealing in poison” or “drug use” and was applied to divination and spell-casting because sorcerers often used drugs along with their incantations and amulets to conjure occult power" “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife . . . and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19-21).
Matthew 18 ► (New International Version) "At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me." “If anyone causes one of these little ones-those who believe in me-to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!"
CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SECOND EDITION 2284: "Scandal is an attitude or behavior which leads another to do evil. The person who gives scandal becomes his neighbor's tempter. He damages virtue and integrity; he may even draw his brother into spiritual death. Scandal is a grave offense if by deed or omission another is deliberately led into a grave offense"
The fact we’ve unleashed this on our youth in the name of tax revenue is absolutely Evil. Look at these states and cities that are absolutely crumbling from rampant drug use.

I have been looking for more guidance on this issue. For the most part it seems like it's most likely a no... For most? Or it depends. It has much more potential for things to go wrong. As the very basic it will be used as a stress relief or an escape from your problems. However I still wonder about medical reasons. I feel like it shouldn't be an issue. But weed still has much more of a negative stigma, than alcohol and other OTC drugs. In my case, I've been chronically ill, I have Crohn's and autoimmune disorder, it's like rheumatoid arthritis but with a little more of a kick to it. I have allot of health issues I'm trying to get to the root cause of but ultimately trying to give it to God. The very basics for decent health are out of whack for me that I don't mind explaining but it's too long. I currently use weed to help me go to sleep, to increase my appetite and stress. I haven't found myself addicted, and I can stop with out "craving" it, I definitely don't plan on using it forever or leaning on it like a crutch, but it's one of the only things really that is helping me out. I'm also just getting into my faith journey. I'd appreciate more guidance on this topic
As an ex marijuana smoker ( going on 16 years now) , I smoked from the time I was 13 until 40 (heavily). The issue is this, we dont have the data about what hydroponics, overfertilization, insect repellents, and many other factors can do to our bodies, especially the lungs. We do have information about our brains formation, and what the use of cannabis can do to the functionality of our brains before 21. You may think you feel very cognitively astute, but what may you have been like if you had obtained? I cant be judgemental of anyone, and in some cases cannabis has been a way to cope through difficult times. Often we didnt even realize that we were coping. But in my case, i do feel that i can concentrate much better, my breathing is easier, and i do feel a certain clarity. The addiction can be very real. When you avoid going to places in the world for vacation, because you fear you can't get cannabis, then that's addiction. When you avoid doing anything, and prioritize getting cannabis first, that is addiction.
Quitting marijuana isn’t fun, but it’s a cake walk compared to quitting the juul. You will have actual physical withdrawal effects from quitting nicotine, like not being able to sleep.
Marijuana is psychologically addictive. Your mind becomes dependent to cope with everyday life. As an abuser of weed I can attest to this. Your body doesn't crave it but your mind sure does!

Quotes from the bible: "Thou shall not murder" "God Is Love" "Thou shall not lust" "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" "God said: Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness" "pray without ceasing" "beware false prophets" "do not be decieved" "Satan himself masquerades as an angel of Light" "I AM The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to The Father except through me."
Complicated. Severe untreatable pain, cancer with severe nausea other medical extreme conditions perhaps a place for it. It is a hook… it is addictive… there is such a thing as a bad buzz. Careful, careful.

Many religions use psychedelics to reach higher enlightenment. The key is responsible use, which is the vast majority of people. Stop making something a problem that ISN'T a problem.
To me Marijuana was probably less addictive as caffeine. My only withdrawal from Marijuana was super mild irritability, while a lack of caffeine made me more irritable and heart palpitations! I'd say I have an addictive personality, but I can truly say that that I don't believe marijuana is an addiction to most people. Is it habitual? Absolutely. Can it be abused habitually by people who tend to have OCD or something else that makes them want to use it as a crutch? YES! But chemically, it's not (or at least shouldn't be) hard to give up. That said, I quit smoking weed after 4 years after I decided to just no go back after taking a tolerance break. Marijuana made me feel stupider than I already am and when I came back to smoking it briefly for about 2 months (delta 8s and 10s) It made me so anxious the entire time, I thought to myself "why am I doing this?" so I quit right then and there and never looked back. I still have the vape pen in front of me right now even as I type this, with a full cartridge, but no part of me wants to smoke it? There is no element of it that's addicting to me, but I'd say I have a VERY addictive behavior (I'm VERY addicted to online pornography). NOW THATS ADDICTION. Marijuana HAS NOTHING on pornography. I have my own thoughts on drugs being used as medicine that wouldn't be in line with the Church, such as psychedelic mushrooms being used to fight depression, brain damage, CTE, PTSD. Heck even Iboga, Ketamine and ayahuasca have had incredible amounts of anecdotal evidence being used in rehab clinics outside of America to fight other drug addictions. For instance Iboga can stop Heroin and even Methadone addictions with even a few uses by cutting cravings and completely negating withdrawals. All that said, I'm drug free and plan on staying drug free unless I decide to try some mushrooms for the first time to unpack some childhood trauma. Until then, I'll stick to my Rosaries, Devine Mercy chaplets and Novenas. God bless!
