I'm going show you how to kill weeds in your lawn using one herbicide. In the past I’ve showed you how to kill weeds in your lawn without killing your grass but that was a granular herbicide that required you have a broadcast spreader to apply it.
Today I’m making it even easier. This single weed killer is super easy to apply and only requires a hose to apply it. What I’m referring to is Spectracide weed killer in ready to spray form. When applied correctly, this herbicide is safe for warm season grass like Bermuda and Zoysia and cool season grass like Rye, Kentucky Bluegrass and Fescue.

That’s always best Andre. Really once you get the weeds under control, regular mowing is going to do a lot for keeping the weed pressure down.

I’m using Bermuda and mowing reel low with the Greensmaster!!! Amazing how easy it is to pull a weed. Like the weed is barely alive already. In my ST Augustine the weeds clamp in strong. It’s a constant battle. 😆

@Steve S Omg, my street was ALL retired military at one time. They tried to out-do each other with their pristine lawns. One man even came to me when I was mowing (I despise mowing) and told me how to do it. "Turn the blades fast, and slow down with going forward!!!", he said. I had the forward speed on the fastest setting to get it done quicker. Now all retirees have passed away, and every single house is nothing but dirt and weeds. I have so many, many weeds. My dad would disown me if he saw this mess!

This product works great for clovers, crabgrass, and many other weeds. You might need to add more than one application, but it definitely does the job. Very impressed. Highly recommend it for homeowners.

Great video and this stuff works great on my lawn. I see results (yellowing) in about 2-3 days and usually 2 weeks later dead weeds turned black. I put down CUTTER this morning... maybe a video about that?

Heya SK Aerials. I've never used CUTTER before. I'll do some research on it. I try to stay away from the more potent herbicides because you REALLLY need to pay attention when mixing and applying them to not damage your lawn or yourself in the process. I was just at Home Depot, a bag of scotts weed/feed that covers 5k is 25 bucks, and a comparable hose end weed control that covers the same area is 9 bucks.. get a 50lb bag of a triple 10 fert for 12 bucks and you'll accomplish the exact same thing as scotts weed and feed for a few bucks less

Thank you Ron for another great video. I put down Negate Sunday due to tons of POA. Some of the POA has seeds. You recommend not bagging clippings when you have put down a herbicide, but what are your thoughts in this situation? Thanks!

Heya Jeff. If you want to bag the clippings because you're afraid of blowing poa seeds all over the lawn, you can. Any seeds that go down now aren't likely to germinate until the fall so a long as you put down a fall pre-emergent, you should be ok. Great question. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the great content! I do have a question about fertilizer and herbicides. I am a bit late this year and have a cool season lawn. I am going to use this exact herbicide but also need to get a good 1lb of N per 1000. Which should I do first and how long between applications? Thanks Ron!

Hi tafronberg. It depends on your grass type, but if you're looking for a great fertilizer that works well on cool and warm season grass, try out Humic Max 16-0-8. Used this stuff 2 days ago. Weeds are curling up and grass is nice and green. I tend to do a lite liquid fertilizer (0.25 N per 1000) with it to make the weeds grow more also and suck up all the poison ☠️.

Great video!! I use Tenacity; 2,4,D; and Quinclorac in their separate high concentration formulations. Just used Battleship III on my project lawn that has a bunch of stuff I can’t even pronounce or spell, but it does have Triclopyr, is a 2,4,D free formulation, and has its own proprietary adjuvant for adhesion to the weeds when sprayed... first time using it, so I’m anxious to see the results! I forgot the PPE...🤦‍♂️.

They serve different purposes kal. Image is great for hard to kill weeds like nutsedge and poa annua. Spectracide is a great broad control herbicide. It kills a lot of stuff.

Hey Ron, I came back from the beach to tons of weeds. Used Spectracide weed for lawns (blanket coating) and I have heard conflicting things from this video and Friday night chat with you and your guest - should I bag to remove the weeds to prevent more seeding or should I not bag to keep from removing the herbicide??? Hi Brian. If the weeds covering the lawn, I would bag for the first mow after the Spectracide application. It's not like you'll create a huge problme if you don't but it makes sense to not blow any weed seeds all over the lawn. Also if you've not applied pre-emergent, you definitely want to that. You can apply this now. Won't prevent your seed from germinating. It's not pre-emergent.

Hi Ron - Fescue lawn....What should be expected if multiple (perhaps several) passes were made on an area with a product like this or Image Lawn Crabgrass Killer? I used a RTS bottle vs my ortho sprayer and went through a bottle much faster than anticipated on a section of my lawn.

Hi Christopher. If you went heavier than rate in an area, I'd expect you to see some temporary yellowing of the lawn. As long as you didn't go insanely heavy, the lawn should recover.

Hi Rom, I live in Houston, TX My lawn is 6000 sqft with St Augustine grass which was planted by the constructor around 1.5 years ago over a bed of sand....I believe because of the cost. Now I have the plan to level the lawn using a mix of soil and compost and later in the year overseed with bermuda for the winter. I am not thinking on removing the current grass because of the cost but still want to see my lawn green all year long. Any recommendations on my plan? Thanks in advance

Hi Daniel. I would not overseed your St. Augustine with Bermuda. It will create a mess. St. Augustine likes to be mowed very tall while Bermuda prefers to be mowed short. Bermuda also won't stay green during winter months in Texas. For that, you'd need Fescue or Ryegrass. But again, I wouldn't overseed St. Aug with either of those. If you were to eliminate the St. Aug and switch to Bermuda then overseeding in the fall with perennial rye could be an option. I wouldn't do with St. Aug though. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you. Just don't want you to do something you're likely to regret later. Thanks for watching sir. Appreciate the support.

Have you had this happen to you? Do you have any recommendations? Maybe I'm not holding the bottle level?

Everything sounds good other than the grass seeds part Dee. If you have cool season grass like rye, fescue or Kentucky bluegrass, it’s ok. For warm season grass like Bermuda or Zoysia, it’s usually unnecessary. Hope this helps. Appreciate you watching the content. 🙏😎

First, thank you for making this video. I am in need of your help. My husband passed away last year from covid. He was the one that took care of the lawn. I put down grass seed in March of last year. It took off and looked great. Then I don't know what happened but I have more crabgrass than grass. I have used this product but in the yellow label and it worked great. I live in Arizona and we're in the 105-111 degrees now and our lows are in the mid to upper 80's. I have a sprinkler system. It water's everyday at 5:00 am. I have been pulling the weeds by hand, so I have some bear spots. If I use this product can I put down grass seed after the first mowing? 🤔 Thank you for your time and any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for your loss Teri. If you sprayed this on your lawn today, I’d give it 3 days or so before mowing again. Assuming your lawn is Bermuda, grass seed shouldn’t be needed to fill in bare spots. If the area is shaded, it will be difficult to grow grass there.

If the lawn has already greened up Timothy then you can use Spectracide. It's a great post-emergent and you can't beat the price at $10

My soil result came back from the lab and it was showing my lawn is very very weak 2 days ago I put Lesco 18 24 12! Can I put some scotts lawn food granular fertilizer? Or green MAX? .fyi the PH was 6.5. Thank you sir

I wouldn't put down more fertilizer if you just applied the 18-24-12. The grass can only make use of so much fertilizer without causing damage. 6.5 pH is great. If you want to use the Green Max next month, that would work. Thanks for watching KD kD.

Hey Ron, I’m renovating my new cool season lawn and have done an overseeding project recently. Seed has not germinated yet. Should I pass on applying pre-emergent weed control this season because of this? Read the bags and it will prevent seed from germinating. Realized after I bought granular spectracide and granular Scott’s crab grass control, but thinking I shouldn’t apply either now. But since grass hasn’t germinated yet I wasn’t sure if it was actually okay to apply right now. Is there something else I should use that is safe for overseeding grass?

Hi Lebron. If you're renovating, I would stay away from herbicides of any kind until the lawn is established. No pre-emergent or post-emergent herbicides. It's best to temporarily deal with weeds as a trade for getting good germination. The granular weed stop stays in the soil for several months so as soon as the seeds start to germinate, it will kill them. I would manually pull weeds until the new grass is grown in. That's the safest route. Thanks for watching sir.

I’ve never done that John but don’t see why it couldn’t work. Mix a small amount first to ensure there’s no weird interactions. Also, make sure that the version of weed stop you’re using is correct for your grass type. Appreciate you watching.

I can see that George. If you have a backpack sprayer, you can simply use the concentrate and mix it up yourself. Hose end is easy for anyone new getting into the lawn game though. Appreciate you watching sir. 🙏😎

Excellent Ron! My neighbor wants me to help with his weed filled Bermuda. I was going to have him start with this, pre emergent and your spoon feeding program. Does using this and coming back several weeks later with a spot treatment of Celsius/Certainty sound like a good approach? I was going to do pre-em & fert now and apply the Spectracide when it’s completely awake/green or I would you do it all now and spot spray later. His lawn is 50% dormant….

If you already have Celsius and Certainty, I would spray that instead of Spectracide. It’ll be more effective and saves time vs having to make multiple applications. Hope this helps.
