Pulling those weeds and grass is much easier when the soil is still wet. I just put a 3-4 inch layer of mulch and compost and that suppresses like 80% of the weeds. I hate landscape fabric and I'm still pulling that stuff the previous owner put in
That brought back so many memories. When we moved here, we had rocks on top of black plastic with more rocks underneath. They had put the black plastic down to keep weeds from growing, it did not work. It was a nightmare pulling that stuff up as it would rip too.
my mom had good results using carpet to kill grass. She bought remnants from the carpet store and layed them down over the weeds and grass and it is very thick and block out the light. took awhile to kill them
Weeds . . . the bane of every gardener! When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade! When I'm in the mood, I weed in my garden, and it can be very therapeutic for me. Working with flower beds is one of my main gardening jams, and I found this video very interesting. I have not yet tried this cardboard method of controlling weeds, but one day I will. I use hardwood mulch as well, for weed control.
I pulled off my exterior side wall panels to replace them, no joke there was bermuda grass growing all the way up between the studs and insulation. The best way I've found is to just keep the cardboard as the top layer. If I put mulch on top of the cardboard the bermuda eats it for lunch. Of course that would look like shit in a garden bed, I use it around the trees.
