Yes, that's Chilli in the storyline. The unedited version of the video features T-Boz and Left Eye in storylines as well, dealing with racial bullying and gang violence, respectively. The guitarist is the producer of this song and a lot of TLC songs, Dallas Austin. He and Chilli were in a relationship and had a son together.

The 90's had a lot of cheerful sounding songs that were very dark. Unpretty, Semi-Charmed Life, Mmmbop, even songs like Barbie Girl were not about something cheerful and good even though they were so upbeat sounding.

Yes, that's Chilli herself in the breast implant storyline. As others have already mentioned the original music video featured four storylines: the bulimic girl plus one for each of the women. T-Boz's storyline had her playing a high school student who was harassed by racist classmates and Left Eye played a girl who's attacked and nearly shot by drive-by shooters. While T-Boz's scenes are at least somewhat related to the overall concept of looks and self-image, it may have been taken out because her "character" in the video is rescued by either a teacher or principal and therefore doesn't have agency in her own story the way that Chilli and the overweight girl do. Left Eye's scenes, meanwhile, have nothing really to do with the theme of the song/video and MTV in particular wasn't big on depictions of gun violence back then, so it's much easier to see why those scenes were cut from later versions of the video.

"Unpretty" was also sung on an episode of "Glee" by Lea Michele and Diana Agron with a similar storyline as the TLC video.

This was 2000 but we get what you’re talking about . The guy in the video playing the guitar is super producer Dallas Austin he help produce this song and several TLC songs. This song was written by t-Bozeman the 0ne with the blond hair.
