Welcome to a week in the life of a medical student! Block 3-cardio/renal! Week 3!! Let's go!! 🫀🥰
If you don't already know me, my name is Ethan, and I am a first-year med student here at UCLA. In addition to being a full-time med student, I'm passionate about community-building, public health, and writing. Also, as part of my quest to live simply and minimally, I live out of a self-converted campervan!
I have three goals with these weekly videos:
1. To inspire future generations of young people
2. To reflect deeply on my new life as a medical student and grow into a more compassionate, disciplined, and intentional individual
3. To capture my experience and share it with family and loved ones back home
If you want to join me on this journey, please support this project by liking, commenting below, and sharing the video with someone you think will benefit.

hello I hope you are well so I am writing you this message just to ask you a question and my question :, I am a high school student ( my last year) and I want to study medicine after the baccalaureate but I have a problem , the problem is: I have a phobia of cansers, I can no longer discuss or leave or even hear people talking about cansers and a lot of people have discouraged me from choosing medicine and here I really want to know your opinion

Thanks for sharing this with me. I’ll start by saying there are some people who are not comfortable with the sight of blood or injuries. Just because you don’t do well with the sight of blood doesn’t mean you can’t work in the medical field. I suppose the same thinking holds true in your case….There are many avenues within medicine where you do not necessarily need to work with cancer patients (i.e., psychiatry, radiology, etc). However, during your medical training (i.e., medical school) you’ll likely learn about cancer and need to work with patients dealing with cancer during rotations. I recommend you continue to reflect on your decision, shadow physicians, and read widely. Hope this response is helpful.
