Randomly stumbled across your videos and now living vicariously through them as I miss Southampton so much!! I did French and Spanish at Southampton, graduated in 2019 and it was honestly the best 4 years, the languages department are incredible. It's such a shame you've not been able to have the full experience yet because of Covid, but hopefully you'll eventually get to have as great a time as I did! At some point you will also hopefully have the joy of being taught by Paty Romero (normally for stage 7 Spanish in final year), who is the most incredible lecturer for Spanish :) buena suerte con todo!

Love your videos. I have made the University of Southhampton my firm choice. Quick question which accommodation is better Wessex lane or Glen eyre? My course will be on the Highfield campus. Wessex lane has cheaper accommodation but it is a bit further away. Glen eyre seems nice and closer but my loan won't it cover. I don't mind paying extra. Any advice?

Aw thank you, & congratulations! In my opinion Glen Eyre is nicer. It’s also much closer to Highfield campus, but in 1st year you’ll have a free bus pass so it’s really easy to get to campus from whichever accommodation you choose. If you don’t mind paying more then Glen Eyre might be the better option, but Wessex Lane would be good if you want to save money. It really just depends on what you think would work better for you 🤍

Are you studying a joint honours degree, if so, how do you find it? Do you have to pick half and half the modules evenly?

For some reason my degree isn’t technically classed as joint honours, but idrk why because I am doing 2 subjects & the structure is the same as for people doing joint hons 🤣 It will depend on your degree, but for me, in 1st semester I had all compulsory modules, 3 Spanish & 1 Linguistics, then in 2nd semester I had to choose 3 optional modules - I chose to do 3 linguistics ones with my compulsory Spanish module. I’d say definitely look at the course details on the website to get info specific to your course :) I hope this helped 💛

@@ImmieSophie thanks. I’m really conflicted over changing my Soton course (I’m currently year 13) from history to history and film but am unsure about whether I’d be selling myself short or something and whether it’s the best thing for me even though I’m leaning towards it right now.

I would say that if you think you’d find a joint honours course more interesting then you should go for that - I feel like it’s rly important to choose the subject(s) you would enjoy. I rly like that I have a bit of variety! But it’s completely your decision ofc

Yeah, I know quite a few people doing joint honours and they seem to like it! I don’t think the work load is much more than single honours, but I could be wrong..
