If it was against elitism, he wouldn’t have disparaged every “jock” in the room in his opening remarks. Though Im sure in their eyes, everyone who is hetero and NOT a nerd/dweeb/geek is a “jock.”
What I meant was that it doesn't matter what one wears, but I find funny people who try to look as punk as possible. I don't judge them, just find it funny.
Check out Imprisoned by Harms Way. Definitely a Powerviolence release. They're not even remotely close to being a Powerviolence band now but that release would be why some ignorant people label Harms Way as Powerviolence.
maybe further up north like anaheim, san jose, and berkeley, but out of the four venues i know around here it's mostly metal, crust, or some kind of indie-alternative shit. There is also a huge post hardcore scene cause it's trendy as hell and capitalizes on insecurities and fashion. Pretty much all the local shows I've been to here are a fashion show and the kids don't even move an inch when the music plays.
I dont even dress punk right now, only sometimes when I feel like it. I dont care about the nonsense that you HAVE to dress punk or you cant work a corporate job. Screw that I need a career and money to survive as well as money for shows sometimes. Cant get that without income somehow. I dress punk then i dont dress punk. I love hardcore even jock crap some of the bands are good. I just hate how shows are now days and I really dont enjoy hanging around people who listen to this music very often.
Yeeeah. I'm right there with you. But they're saying "Start a Powerviolence band because it's a lifestyle. Not just some trend for people to jump all over."
They're all actually cool dudes. And his lyrics make him sound like he thinks it's lame that everyone and their brothers starts Violence bands for the wrong reasons.
there's really no trend for powerviolence. It's not like there's a buncha scene kids runnin around talkin about how br00tal acxdc is and how they got all the spazz merch at their local hot topic
I can get what you say here, the thing is, everyone I know who likes Weekend Nachos also likes other punk music, so I guess I'm just luckier than you. I know some hardcore jocks like you described, but none of them like Weekend Nachos, so...
Yes, kids who want to be tough jocks and act punk but do not dress punk or anything close. Its called trying to fit into both worlds...also judging people who DO dress punk is completely stupid and denies the history and culture of punk. You dont HAVE to dress punk to be punk, but I find the new style of "lets be tough badass guys and hipsters and jocks all molded into one and mock anyone who looks punk and listen to poweriolence yaaa becuase I used to be an As I Lay Dying scene dork".
Weekend Nachos sounds good, but they are clearly overrated by the new trend of scene kids who found powerviolence and want to be punk, without dressing punk.
Dressing punk is cool its part of punk rock. No you dont have to dress punk, but the people who mock punks who dress punk are ignorant and usually newjack scene kids who just found powerviolence becuase of weekend nachos. Same BS happened when Pig Destroyer was cool. Punk is a subculture and im bored to death of the average band of jocks who claim hardcore who deny punk rock roots. You dont have to dress punk but embrace it all. Weekend Nachos is a good band from what I can tell but overrated.
I think it's funny that this band is the most bro down wannabe powerviolence bands ever, and they have balls to have a song called Jock Powerviolence, Weekend Machos ladies and gentalmen lol.
