@@JimMurray2 things are still open . also check out the SACHUEST POINT NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE 10 minutes down the road.. its free...has a museum and scenic walking trails along the coast with benches along the way. its beautiful.. you will defintely see deer there ..they dont seem to be afraid of people.

Love how you do a fly over of Jay Leno's home i all ways did love that house Anderson coopery is part of that family Vanderbilt's I'm shocked you missed the Carrie Manor which was in the opening scenes to dark shadows the original Claritin Court which was klauson Sunny Van bureau's house but awesome job i love seeing my state through other's eyes

This is also the home of the exterior "Collinwood Mansion" from the 1966 Dark Shadows TV Series on Ruggles Avenue, SeaView Terrace (A private residence)

FYI, you can't get to the lighthouse now without going to the Castle Hill Inn. They put up a guard shack and need reservations to get in. The lighthouse itself is on public property but the land around it is owned by the Castle Hill Inn.

The scene at the 1:35 mark is William Penn with the Lenape Tribe (not Newport or New England). Notice the date on the building. Penn arrived in the Delaware River in 1682 aboard the Welcome. By the way, the house that follows belongs to Jay Leno.

Oh thats fabulous!!!! Raymond you might want to check out our other video of the mansions. You can do a cliff walk along side the mansions, they are quite impressive. We even launched our drone to give you a good perspective of how large those mansions actually are. Enjoy your visit next year.

Great video...but Cliff Walk does not end at Ledge Road...there is a short, but very interesting part that continues after Ledge Road and ends near Bailey's Beach..short...but has great views...

Great video, BUT... Aquidneck = uh-QUID-neck Ochre = OH-ker Salve Regina = SAL-vey re-GINA Thames = Thames rhymes with James, not tems like London Bowen's = BOW-en's rhymes with bow and arrow Any time you're not sure of a pronunciation just ask a local. We're happy to help!

I’m a local Newporter. I enjoyed your video but you really need to work on your pronunciation. In order in the video, the island is called ah-QUID-nick, the street is called narra-GANN-sett, the building at Salve is called OAK-er court, the street is called Thames (not tems) and the wharf is called BOW-ens. Newport is a really beautiful place. There are many more things to see and do than the video could cover.

If you think this round of pronunciations was bad, you should see some of our Mexico videos! 😀 Anyway, glad you enjoyed the video. We had a great time and plan to be back. My grandparents and my mother were born and raised in Newport. I agree with the pronunciation of Aquidneck, Narragansett, and Ochre; however, Ochre Court is now part of Salve (Sal-vay) Regina University. Also, when I was younger, my grandparents always referred to Thames Street as 'Tems" Street, using the same pronunciation used for the Thames River in London. Great video! Fond memories of a beautiful place!

This is a "tourist" video but for the locals they rarely visit these areas. Newport is unique and a class of its own. Locals dislike all the changes because it is no longer "our" Newport. Still, it is the most beautiful City by the Sea and there is no place like it. Everyone who visits wants to move there. The tourist industry has driven up the prices to where people can no longer afford to live there.

Having grown up in Newport in from 1960 tp 1972, this a great travel log. My only complaint is that your pronunciation of some of the local names do not match any native Newport’s pronunciation. I winced each time I heard a local name, such as the Islands name spoken.

@@scottsdaletravelchick other than a few mispronounced words, this video, and the companion Cliff Walk video were Spot On great tips. In June my wife and I returned to visit Newport, and relive my childhood. Basically our trip mirrored your travel trips. And our trip predated my viewing your 2 videos. FYI. We have a NARM (North American Reciprocal Museum) membership which gave us free access to the Newport Mansions. If you have not already, I recommend checking out NARM. Join one NARM museum at the NARM level and get free admission to about 1000 other NARM museums for free.

I look beyond the opulence. I like to admire and take in the craftmanship that is rare today. Those mansions are massive works of art that extremely talented people built. I admire the artisans' work. Imagine the incredible talent that went into the hand-crafted marble fireplaces, the furniture, etc. It wasn't made by big machines like today. I have no desire to live in such a huge mansion, it would be overwhelming for me. I love my average sized home.
