Hi Peter. I got the 11 inch bunny plate! I thought the bunnies were cute and it's almost a charger. Why not?

I never could understand why people don't put lots of pictures on their lots especially larger auction houses. It shows a poor lack of judgement and knowledge and would make any buyer skeptical.

I don't understand why big auctions don't put pictures up like eBa does..

The shibayama example seems less refined than usual.

I don't remember you ever mentioning the Danish auction house Bruun Rasmussen auctions? they have weekly asian online auctions and 4 auctions a year with good stuff.

Hello Peter The 'Jizhou' covered jar would appear from the domed cover and style of foot to be a Cizhou-type covered bowl. There is an example of a Jizhou covered bowl in Mr Mowry's book and is very different in style to the one being offered for sale at Bonhams Skinner

Hi Jeremy I tend to agree with you on this. Very clearly not a product of the Jizhou Kilns. Only a few regions made this type, cizhou kilns, hebei and the henan kilns. If you look at the brown spots, in the centre of the spots there is a darker brown area. This is achieved with a higher iron content. This is a characteristic of cizhou kilns and not henan kilns. So now we have identified it as suppose to be Cizhou, the base can tell us if it is a reproduction. Quite clearly, the base on this vessel does not align with Cizhou ware products and therefore by a process of elimination it is of my opinion this is not of the period, possibly it is re-fired or new. Other factors including proportions are also not correct, especially looking at the shape of the lid.

@@AJS-JapanI have seen a covered bowl that was excavated at the Dangyangyu kilns site and which has the same type of footring and domed cover. Although I am not suggesting that the one being sold was made in the Dangyangyu kilns during the Jin period, the excavated example does indicate that these features were used on Jin period black glazed Cizhou-type covered bowls.

@@jeremy3417 yes Dangyangyu kilns, Henan province certainly made this type. Although in my opinion the clay, footring and the proportions of this bowl and cover is not in line with the characteristics of the Dangyangyu kiln.
