Time for the Secret Cottage Garden tour for the first week of July. I am beginning to slip behind on these but I am determined to keep it going for a good garden journal to look back on. This video record-keeping is already helping me see what is blooming when and what is working well.
Hi, I am Pamela and I garden in the mountains of Northern California. I am in Zone 8. I defy convention and break many garden 'rules' yet my garden is a tapestry of color and unruly beauty! I want you to be inspired to create a beautiful garden on a tight budget.

Looks good Pam. I would love those cooler temps that you have at night. I like how your roads in the neighborhood seem to wind & meander around each property, going downhill & towards your lake. Homes sit in any direction on their properties & all the trees. So pretty. Reminds me of how we used to get to my grandparents cabin at Lake Jackson here in GA. We finally got some good rain yesterday & last night here in middle GA after having none for 5 weeks. My plants are doing a dance this morning. It’s been so hot & dry…very unusual for this time of year. Thanks for the tour. Lovely plants living their best❤

I don't know if my gardens would know what to do if we actually go summer rains. Sounds lovely. The heat has been intense this week but the gardens are taking it in stride. We have been staying warmer at night this week which makes a huge difference. I keep telling myself to soak up summer as it will be over much too soon for my liking!

Hi Pam 😊 Looking forward to seeing your new garden plans. I laughed when you said, "yes, I have more gardens than I can take care of..." lol 😂 I literally said aloud, "same girlfriend " 😅 but I LOVE it! I love the entire creative process ❤ That must be our artists hearts manifesting 💕 Beautiful crepe myrtle! I think you can't go wrong in either of the areas you mentioned!

AMEN, I love the process as much as the garden so creating a fresh one is even delightful to design as it is to plant. I agree, about our artist hearts needing this canvas too.

I've never had chickens before that make that obnoxious sound until the Leghorns I have now. They do it when they're hungry. Sounds like we'll be getting ANOTHER Crepe myrtle. 😁

I do hope your mum enjoys it. I am being very careful in the heat. I do love being outside this time of year and it is hard not to stay out but I am judicious. Today is a bit cooler, down into the 90's F but tomorrow it is back to 100+ degrees!

Another lovely garden tour. I think the problem with your Hydrangea is called Witches Broom and is caused by a viral or fungal infection.
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 17 дней назад
I thought that only affected roses. I will have to look that one up but you are correct the leaves look just like the ones on roses when they have that. Okay, I went and looked it up and yes that is what it is. Even though it looked like it I did not bother researching that before so thank you very much! I need to remove and destroy these plants now so it does not spread to other plants. It is spread by a mite so I will be sure and treat everything else with my rosemary spray that treats those and hopefully this will be nipped in the bud.

Well it’s another week into summer and the bugs, animals, mosquitoes, blights and fungus have arrived!🎉 We started out with returning rain after drought thanks to La Niña return, But it didn’t stop raining until now and thankfully we will miss the aftermath of hurricane rain. It’s so muggy and the heat is building. I know you are getting the heat shift by now. I don’t like heat and humidity with Clods of mosquitoes. With all that is going wrong right now I’d prefer the drought. Blight started on tomatoes and usually it’s the first week of August. I’ve never had problems growing robust tomatoes until now and wonder if we will even get enough to preserve. Harvested the garlic today and thankfully it didn’t rot. Pulled up the peas for chickens and now have blank slate to start fall crops. I hope that goes well. Garbed up with head net, long sleeves, spray and gloves and had to do gardening in several sessions as it was just too humid and I was drenched with all I was wearing. It’s miserable here! I got the copper sprayed on plants that are susceptible to rust/fungus. Hope I can stave it off to get a harvest and enjoy the flowers. That’s another thing-can’t sit outside to look, I have to take pictures as there are clouds of mosquitoes-it’s hideous. We have two zappers going 24/7 and need to clean them daily as they are covered in dead mosquitoes. We do treat and cover the rain tanks, but will be draining them tomorrow. It’s already dry-the sand is a blessing and a curse. Animals: I should have known what was about to happen as I read comments from channels and could tell we were going to have invaders soon. We’ve had a coon kill a rooster earlier and now the possum are digging under fences and the deer tasted anything it could reach over a lower fence. I knew some things were too close to edge and sure enough they nipped at many plants-hydrangeas, service berry, sunflowers and mock orange. And my north garden has fence but no poultry netting and small rabbits squeeze through and nipped dry beans. The J beetles are few so far, the vine borers were Huge and I’m contending with a second round of potatoes beetles that had a good head start because I couldn’t get outside either because of rain or mosquitoes. And I spotted a gopher 🤯 Had a few wins along the way, but the spring high has faded and hoping for a better fall harvest or any harvest 😨. Never had rust on hollyhocks and I started peach parfait and night watchman and now realizing I may have to pull them all and get rust resistant variety or start an early regimen of spraying before it arrives. So I watch others able to enjoy their gardens. It’s like winter being stuck inside. Your flowers are really filling in and I think how mosquitoes would love to hide in all that vegetation.😂. That larkspur was neon 🤩! The mosquitoes are after heat anything dark or giving off co2. I have Lauren’s grape this year and it looks great with double feverfew. The breadseed poppies Lucille and Jimi’s Purple Haze are ok, but the bottom leaves are dreadful probably from rain. You hit on it-Garden for Stress Relief! And with current events as they are and just the fact I wait all winter and now I can’t enjoy it mainly because of mosquitoes. The rain has flooded animals away from waterways and now to my salad bar.😖😩. I’m getting bit inside the house. These things are impossible to deal with. Thanks for the tour, Keep cool.

My goodness. If I couldn't garden I would be painting or sewing or something else. I must say you are more intrepid than I. I think I would've given up by now! You are a true garden hearted person. I wish you fantastic weather the rest of the summer. Who knows, it could happen.

@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse lol, can’t eat painting or sewing. We were drying out but that heat you have will push storms to us this weekend with Sunday dew points in the 70s. Will definitely be staying indoors. But hey, I have my first strawflower blooming💃💃💃. And today I see a deer got inside small statue flower garden and taste tested-fence was too low 🙄 and I tried to put obstacles in the way and didn’t work. So we raised the bar with string. I just don’t understand the animal pressure with all the rain and green plants out there. Yep, sometimes you feel like tossing in the towel.

Pam your garden is lovely, I really enjoy having my breakfast and watching your videos. The feverfew is so pretty. I am going to look for some at my local garden center. Did you buy it as a plant or grow it from seed? My sweet peas and morning glory are not doing too well this year either. I got a volunteer Mullen and it is yellow, so pretty I left it. I'm off to the garden center to see what they have today! Enjoy your day!

Have fun! I have had feverfew for so long I can't remember but I think a friend gave me seeds about 20 years ago. It reseeds itself prolifically yet it is shallow rooted enough it is easy to pull out where I don't need it. Some needs deadheading and they it will put on fresh new flowers again. Such an easy plant.
