Hello Pat, thank you so much for directing me to your video, continuing Mental Health May. What a wonderful teacher you were and are! I had convinced my daughter to take an AP English class even though she thought she wasn’t smart enough. It helped her get into college even though her grades were average. I was never a licensed teacher, but I taught teaching English as a foreign language in Japan and ESL in the US. I know how satisfying it is to see one of your students excel and I had that experience a few times. Julia‘s book sounds intriguing and I will definitely pick it up. I’m sure that people struggling with mental illness. Will find something in that book that works for them. I’m sending you a lot of love and I’m grateful to know you. Aloha my friend.

I'll bet you were a great ESL teacher, Marilyn! I'm glad that your daughter did take AP English too. It probably caused her to stretch a bit academically and that's a good thing. I'm sure it did help her confidence level. Thank you for this lovely comment, Marilyn. I'm so glad to have you in my life!

The Connection Cure sounds great, I believe every word of it already but I would love to read that. It’s pretty much the prescription I’ve given myself lately, or trying to. Going outside more and doing more of what matters to me, booktube being one of them, it’s brought me so much joy! You are definitely a part of that as well Pat, I consider you a friend and it makes me very happy to get to know you. So thank you. Not that you’re a prescription 😂 I just wanted to say that this is a social connection that I appreciate a lot and it brings me a lot of joy. And thank you for sharing about you student and her work, I’m already a fan!

Thank you for this lovely comment, Ellen. I feel the same way about you! I’m so glad we’ve met here, and it absolutely is a real friendship! You most definitely are doing the things that Julia is advocating in her book! Your vlogs out in nature and at your cabin make that so apparent! And I don’t mind being a prescription! 😉🥰 We definitely all have people that we need to have contact with. Just as we all know toxic people, we also all have people in our lives whose presence can be calming or soothing or therapeutic. (Not that I’m attributing those qualities to myself, but you know what I mean.) I seek out people who nurture my soul or make me laugh or feel connected. We all need that, don’t we? 🥰

@@BookChatWithPat8668 I’m glad to hear that! 🥰 And you absolutely have those qualities 😊 You’re so right about different people, giving or taking energy. That has a huge impact on mental health and that’s also an ongoing process for me, let’s just say that! 😅 Hearing you talk about your community at your gym and your book club and here on booktube also makes that apparent and I find that very inspiring.

I was just reminiscing with my sister recently about an outstanding AP English teacher we both had in high school. Teachers, both good and bad (and I experienced both extremes) make such a difference. I can tell you were one of the dedicated and memorable ones. I will keep an eye out for The Connection Cure. It sounds fascinating.

Hi Nina. You are absolutely right that teachers can make an incredible difference--for good or ill. I'm so glad that you and your sister had a great AP English teacher. I loved teaching. I loved the kids. I had good relationships with families. When you teach in a district as long as I did, you get to know everyone really well. I like to think that most people knew that my heart was totally into it. Thanks, as always, for leaving me such a lovely comment.

Once again I so enjoyed your weekly reading wrap up. What a beautiful full circle moment for you, holding the book of your former student. I hope you will be able to contact her directly, to express your delight. It is a beautiful perspective for healing. I am fortunate to live in a country, where this is common prescriptive practice, where preventive medicine is in focus. Per your recommendation, I have placed several books on hold and I am delighted that it is my turn to explore North Woods. I have just finished reading the most beautiful novel The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon, which I highly recommend. In addition to North Woods, I am just making a start with How to Read a Book by Monica Wood, after finishing her beautifully written novel The One-In-A-Million-Boy, which I so enjoyed. Like you, I have little experience with Science Fiction - but remember vividly the first episodes of Star Trek. I hope you will much relaxing reading time during the weekend! x PS: My Ann with an e - is down to my Mother's deep connection to the stories - Anne of Green Gables. :)

Thank you for this lovely comment. I hope that you enjoy North Woods. I thought it was exceptional. I will look for The Frozen River. I've been having some fun revisiting Star Trek and also digging into some classics of science fiction. I am in touch with Julia, my former student. I've certainly shared with her my absolute delight at the publication of her first book. I love the roots of your Anne with an "e." My middle name is a shortened version of my maternal grandmother's name, Anna. But Patricia Ann or Anne is actually a fairly common combination, I guess--or it was at one time anyway. I hope you have a lovely weekend!

I'm of the age group where as a student we respected and or were scared of our Teachers. Not scared in violent terms but the scared that if you saw the Teacher outside of the classroom you'd be afraid that she might talk to you. And I would go blank talking to a Teacher outside of classroom. So I guess that's why I watch your videos but never comment. I'm afraid of making a mistake in my comment and then you correcting me. Which is fine, as long as you don't paddle me. I had enough of that in elementary school.😂 -James
