So pleasant to watch you with the calfs and so funny to watch the calfs doing their own thing. So obvious that you love your animals. Reminds me of my grandpa who was a farmer. Just because in the end the animals get killed and become food does not mean that the farmer does not love them.

WOW ! 48 chicks of around 68 eggs is a fantastic return. I was one of the comments about wrapping unit in a blanket ( or a towel) .and swapping levels often to equalize growth. Re shrink wrap. A hatchery guy once told me on 15th day drop each egg for 15 seconds in luke warm water. Then immediacy back into incubator. That the egg pores will absorb water. At same time stuff the unit with sopping spongues. Close it up and dont open until the 25th day only open if humidity drops... but preferably pour water through vent holes if needed to avoid opening unit. Pat yourself on the back Chicken Momma !!

Look at the video of Gretchen out in the field when you found her cold and lethargic. When you brought her in to put in the heat box you did weigh her, She was 65 pounds. So she has grown significantly.

Out of curiosity, how did you arrive at how much feed to give the 3 of them? 494/3 = 164.6666... which is way more than 7 pounds. I am working on writing a book where a teenage farm girl needs to be able to calculate amounts of feed for cattle and I have no clue as to what information I am missing. How did you go from the average to the number of pounds in feed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hearding cattle is a pretty dangerous job, so be careful. Wouldn't want to break a nail or scuff those fancy cowboy boots.
