It's amazing how much weight my Sims gained from having babies. I was too lazy to have them exercise so I had them drink the elixir and immediately regretted it. My Sims was skeletal 🤦♀😂
I usually have them eat exclusively low calorie foods during pregnancy to mitigate the lack of exercise. Garden salad, tilapia, watermelon salad are good choices. They'll still gain weight, but not as much.
I'm currently doing the decades challenge, and the mom just had her 5th pregnancy. She's rather overweight now, but I decided to leave her that way because this was seen as beautiful in medieval times. Seeing that starving doesn't do anything to a Sims' weight, I might need to use the weight loss elixir after the great famine, though, to make it look more realistic. 😅
I love that starving yourself won’t make you lose weight. It’s a good message especially for simmers who struggle with anorexia. That being said imma eat that cake.
By your logic, they should remove gaining weight by overeating. It would promote a good message especially for simmers who struggle with a binge eating disorder (BED). If people are getting triggered by pixels on a screen then that seems like a them problem. I don’t see any valid reason for why you can’t lose weight by just not eating in the sims.
@@jvstred9112 I think the reason they chose not to do it was because having sims lose weight from just their hunger need dropping into the red would result in too much micromanagement just to maintain a sim's physique. Having overeating = weight gain / exercise = weight loss is more simple from a gameplay perspective. Also having a sim become emaciated before starving to death might be seen as too graphic for the age rating.
@@plastichouseplant Yeah I get your points and they are definitely way more valid than the original commenter’s. I can acknowledge it would make it harder to play the game if they implemented losing weight by not eating as it adds another layer of micromanaging to gameplay; however, I think that is an issue with the current needs setup. I find that, without cheats, my needs decay waaay too quickly. It wouldn’t be so difficult to add the feature if you’re playing with a mod that allows for slower decay or if the Sims 4 adjusted that feature. Also, I don’t necessarily think the «emaciated » look needs to be graphic at all. When you reach max fitness, you become a plump, cartoonish looking figure - nothing like how morbidly obese people look in real life. The same could just be applied on the opposite end of the scale.
@@jvstred9112It's not for "being triggered" you insensitive as**ole, it's because many people struggling with EDs think that starving themselves will make them lose weight, when in reality it causes quite the contrary, and it's good a game doesn't push a negative situation into people's minds. Try empathy next time
For some reason the “dream big” option at the basketball makes your sim super toned and you also gain fitness skill insanely fast. Not kidding you click it 10 times and your fitness skill is almost maxed lol. I realised this a couple of years ago.
Yes it's true, I've noticed this too about making them gain fitness skill very fast. I don't think it makes the sims lose a lot of weight though, does it? My city living Sim didn't manage to lose weight with it. It may have increased her muscle tone, not sure!
That was great! Thank you for your scientific approach. Would you be willing to do a second video on this but using pushups/ situps, swimming, jogging, and tv workout? You could also see if being a vegetarian affected anything or not.
OMG, thank you for this! Almost all my Sims always seem to end up either overweight or morbidly obese and no fat-shaming intended, but I feel like there should be more variation in body shapes and sizes in the general Sim population. I was literally playing today and thinking, 'I wish there was an easy guide to working out how to keep my Sims fit or lose weight if/when they need it' and here you are to the rescue! 😀 I'm clearly going to need to invest in more footballs.
Same. After I discovered the food have calories I make my sims only eat salad or fish dishes, these are the ones with less or 0 calories. There is a full list on internet.
Either you make them eat low fat food, or you make them exercise on a daily basis. One of my sims is always eating Pizza because it is for free when you make friends with the smart speaker, and they are super fit because they are max in fitness and they always exercise. Make them do the treadmill, it is the best one to keep them in line with the weight, unless you have the football.
I guess that’s why all my female sims who’ve had babies and ate mac and cheese all the time became so big . . . 😭 This is such a interesting experiment, thank you! I never understood the weight and muscle system. 😅
It doesn't help that if left to their own devices, sims will cook junk food. If I leave my sim to her own devices, she'll make a cake. Even if I prepped a delicious meal for her
I absolutely needed this. I prefer to keep my Sims looking the way I created them. If things go too far off from where I want them, now I know exactly how to mitigate the changes without resorting to manually changing them in CAS.
I had a character with a wider waist. When she gained weight, i made her do lots of treadmill runs and when I saw her after losing weight, her waist got tinier. Definitely not what I wanted. It kind of changed her body. So I just use CAS now and only eat salads.
this was so helpful! I play quite long, relatively slow-paced legacies and unless I go out of my way to keep a sim super active, they all end up maxing their weight quite quickly. Great to know about the football, as I've noticed that sims with it in their inventory tend to use it autonomously
I forced my sim out to swim (because I needed to get magic book from the bottom of the ocean) well, the sim got fitness skill to 10 and got muscle relief but not muscle mass
Very interesting results especially for exercise. I don't remember where, but I've heard that a lot of DLC foods are broken and have been given extreme fat gain values. I personally had a sim who I only fed curry (I wanted him to build spice tolerance) and for all the time I spent on the treadmill I couldn't keep his weight to standard.
@@kookvszn Calories for food and drinks by enkidu and Gameplay overhaul by Carls sims 4 do that. Chingyu has a metabolism mod if you want to customize things further. Kawaiistacie also has a calorie mod, but I’m not sure it’s been updated yet. Gameplay overhaul hasn’t got an update as of yet, but it said to still work.
The cake making the sim gain the most weight despite being less filling than salad or mac and cheese is the perfect example of art imitating life T^T EDIT: Also, thank you for doing this experiment! I had always wanted to know how weight gain / loss worked in the sims but didn't really want to do all the testing myself lol.
This video was very helpful and explains what I saw with one of my Sims. She was heavy as a child and teenager, but in university, she joined the soccer team. She lost all of her excess weight and maxed her muscle definition. I didn't realize how much the soccer juggling was contributing to her fitness because she was also into yoga and working out to the TV.
This was such a cool and unique experiment! Thank you for conducting it and sharing the results with us. Now I have some new ideas for the clubs my sims join and what they should do in them. Also curious about how dancing and cheerleading affect sims bodies. And if playing with the nfl ball works like soccer
Awe shucks thanks for the kind comment Reading! I am now curious about the extra exercises you mentioned too! I'll potentially look into them in the future :).
'Unique' lol, its a great and comprehensive video but its not unique, carlssimsguides has basically the exact same video (and a great guide online with actual values)
I knew the yoga mat was op (especially since GrT’s burnout feature) but I had no idea soccer was too! It’s just annoying when my sims stop cooking so start juggling the ball. Great video!
After creating a Sim to look a certain way, I began to have my sims exercise every other day to maintain the body I gave them. Of course, the exercising made them look even better, but I found that it also makes them run and do things faster. So if you are playing a game in which they have tasks to complete, then exercising will help them. I found this out when I had a sim that was exercising for months. She fell in love and went on vacation with her new beau. I had them run to the same spot and she was delayed in moving, so her beau had a head start. When she finally took off, she not only caught up to him but beat him to the spot. That's when I realized a fit sim does move faster, stay in better moods, and looks great in everything. Thank you for this video. I have often wondered about the foods sims eat.
The only thing about this system that isn't somewhat realistic is that they don't lose weight just by existing. Poor sims. Also, piece of advice from my own experience: don't put weights in the house with an active sim unless you want them to look like the Hulk all the time
Thank you so much for this case study! It’s been tremendously helpful 😅 Now I understand why some of my sims having been looking a little bit “juicy” lately without me doing anything different lol.
This was so interesting and addressed questions I've had for a long time. I only wish you'd included swimming in your experiments! I think swimming does pretty well with muscle gain and helps some to lose weight, especially at higher fitness levels. I do wonder how fitness levels itself as a factor influences the effect of all these activities. Maybe a part 2?
Now this is the kind of research that I love. This is actually pretty accurate to real life weight loss. In real life, aerobics and cardio (like treadmill) are the best activities for losing bodyfat/mass without much strength gain. But you get endurance gain. I also get why the soccer juggling made her gain muscle and lose fat, because juggling the ball with legs is like both weight training plus the constant limb movement of aerobics. It's a similar activity to aerobics with small dumbbells/ankle weights. What wasn't part of the research is if the sims who are doing the hoop shooting, boxing, and weightlifting start losing bodyfat eventually if they do it regularly.
If you just want to lose weight in general yes, cardio is the best exersize. If you want to burn fat the best is a mix of cardio and weight training as a higher muscle mass will boos your metabolism causing you to burn fat faster.
I remember finding a spreadsheet that explained how foods in the sims 4 have calories and satiation. There are foods that have been added later in the game that for some reason have 0 calories. Those sweet buns that came with Day of the Dead are a great example of low satiation no calorie food, but if you want high satiation low calorie Salad is your best bet.
yep saw it that said a few of the calorie items are stuff that you dont eat ofthen like the anti death flower thing and that kind of stuff. that said I remmber peaple comenting about that list been wierd like some Junk food item had zero calorie yet Garden Salad one of the earliest and one of the better healty food still had calorie and you needed to Run for like was it 30 min a day to burn the calories from one Garden salad (just made no sense).
I do love the realism in this, it's so different than previous games where no matter what exercise option you chose, they always lost weight. My legacy sim was at max weight after having 2 kids, so I made her choose the lose weight option for her New Years' resolution. At the time I only had the weight machine (couldn't afford the treadmill at the time), so I had her pumping iron multiple times a day. I watched her get ripped but was confused as to why she wasn't losing any weight. She ended up failing the resolution, but when I bought the treadmill I noticed the difference.
Thank you for this video. I've actually been wondering about the weight process on Sims 4. I have a gardener Sim who I realized had put on a lot of weight. I had thought gardening would keep it from happening. Time to throw in a soccer ball 😂😁!
I'd worked most of this out on my own, and use the treadmill a ton since I don't want most of my sims looking super muscular. The parts that surprise me though are that weight lifting doesn't lose any weight and that the soccer ball gains so much muscle
This is such an interesting experiment! I wonder if each food (category) has like a hidden counter for body mass gain, e.g. cake 10 points or maybe it's defined by the category, desserts being (of course) the worst? Similar to that, I also wonder how custom content food behaves - do CC creators assign them specific counters too, are CC meals "linked" to a maxis counterparts or do they simply not have any indicator? I never thought about this but thinking back now, most of my sims tend to keep their weight whenever I play on my CC save file because I mostly use custom food there instead of maxis. Curious 😄
Sims gain 1 pound for every 150 calories consumed, with each food having a different calorie number. If you Google it you could actually find out how much calories each food has, there's some guides out there. I believe the one with the most calories is the lobster thermidor.
I absolutely love the soccer ball hack. I learned it not too long ago and was literally so shocked😭. I was like "anytime my sim gorges themselves on food, there WILL be a soccer ball in that inventory 💀" its great to have, even tho it is a bit annoying bc sometimes theyll autonomously start juggling when u tell them to do something🤦🏽♀️
Always have to cheat it back down. Could never be attained without seriods, and an unhealthy low body fat percentage in women. It looks terrible and is problematic, because looking like that is actually unhealthy too. Funny how some say it's great Sims can't loose weight by starving (because of anorexia, which btw. includes lots of exercise too in most cases. Also really tends to be caused by deep rooted issues, not media), but don't see any issue with the unhealthy bodies they easily get through too much exercise.
I swear that starving them DOES make them lose weight. My sims have three kids (two infants, one toddler) so their needs are constantly red or yellow. The female sim barely ate more than one or two meals a day while being near sedentary and lost a small amount of weight. I suppose this process is just a very long one.
I LOVE these experiment videos more than any living thing can understand 😤 Although, I still wish there was a fast way to lose muscle mass in the Sims 4. I have a sim who is way too buff and it was not my intention to have him get so large 😅 It's all my fault for putting him in a fitness club 😭 He would be working out at any gym venue, even during school hours! If I'd travel with a different household; there he was pumping iron 🙄
They were supposed to have tweaked the muscle mass gain of yoga in an update a long time ago. It was supposed to have made the sim loose weight without getting so beefed up.
Now I understand why my vegetarian sim eating pretty much only salad maxed fat so fast…cakes from birthdays while living with numerous people! Her mother exercised a lot but she just jogged while her daughter couldn’t so when she aged as a young adult adult her fat was already high and it maxed in no time😬
What if you just go for a jog? Or do push-ups, stretches, and situps? I know that's a bit tougher to test though. I know that Carl's Sim guides went through all the foods and found that how they were coded for calories and such... though some have none... so eat those maybe? I'll lave to re-look at that list. Did you know that a Sim can live only on drinks alone? But not on water alone (I tried, they wouldn't drink the water fast enough). In my test, my Sim actually got fat... drinking the Wutaheftabir, which was his favorite drink. I had him start jogging and doing yoga, he lost the weight but was fully jacked.
Pregnancy is more fattening than chocolate cake. My matriarch of 100 baby never ate anything but garden salads, but by the tenth baby she was way overdue to hit a treadmill.
You're results are what I realized this week about a new Sim I created. She was rounder, especially in the lower half of her body and then I gave her a soccer ball. She is incredibly fit now. I would've thought that the treadmill, rock climbing wall, or weight lifting would work better.
the weight system in the sims is so stupid my sims always end up at maxed weight just from living,, if my sims have triplets i dont have time for exercise!!!! the weight mechanics definitely need to be changed. does anyone know a mod or a way to make weight not change during gameplay?
I remember there are some settings in MCCC, I think in CAS section. Something like "freeze physique". After clicking it should say "Sim no longer gain or lose weight/muscles"
I love this video! The approach is so scientific 😊 I would love to see the video like this on university performance: how many classes you should attend and how much homework you should do for different grades 👩🏻🎓🧑🏽🎓🙃
Honestly I didn’t know there was a weight gain mechanic lol, I only feed my sims when they’re starving + I didn’t know exercising actually made muscle bigger 😭😭😭
One must make a correction to Weightlifting, I have found that performing a Epic Workout on the Weightmachine Will actually decrease the Sim's Weight. but that seems to be one of the Only actions with the Machine that does, and note that your Sim requires a High Fitness Skill to be able to do this.
I thought this would be about hidden mechanics (like sims with more muscle winning fights more often), but now I know how to work on my sims body type…so I’m not complaining Edit/Update; I’ve actually come back to this to help slim down a sim…she got a bit bigger than I remember, more noticeable in certain outfits kinda thing, trying to get her back to the range she was previously in Edit 2: with the expansions and goal I have…I need the treadmill
Another great and informative video! I'm surprised about the soccer ball being so effective for both weight and muscle. Interesting. Loved the experiment! Have an amazing day!
WIth the weight machine, there are 3 options unlocked through the fitness skill, and I believe the second option only gives you more muscles, but boosted compared to the first option, and the last one make you loose weight on top of giving you more muscle mass than you can put on max in CAS. Its temporarily, at least my sims that does it look more muscular and big compare to when you max it out in CAS.
Ya know, I'm pretty impressed, actually, at the thought and realism that went into this. Sims 4 is such a glitchy, wacky game, and yet they also programmed in things like how cardio excercises only lose weight and weight-lifting only builds muscles, junk food is not only more weight-gaining but also gives less actual nutritional value, STARVING YOUR SIM DOES NOTHING (unless you're actually trying to off them for whatever reason), more substantial fatty foods also give more hunger, etc. It's really nice to know that at least parts of this game had real thought put into them and actually make sense. :)
I make all my thin Sims love fitness by default and first aspiration they get is the never hungry or hardly hungry one whatever it is. I also just accept that my sims can either be max skinny, max fat, max muscled, or max not muscles. There’s really no in between unfortunately without having to pay WAY too much attention or tweak too much.
I was curious to know exatcly about this. But what about swiming and jogging ? From my experience swiming doesnt change body that much, unless its a very slow almost unoticable process.
I always go for jogging + eating only salad every time I realise my sims getting chubby. Too lazy to hit the gym after all. But how about workout using tv or swimming or skating? Do those things have effects?
Yeah, I just put the high metabolism trait on all my personal sims 🤷🏽 I have too many cooking recipes mods in my game so I stay cooking feasts & my sims love to eat, especially if I have the munchies irl 😂
I really hate how EA did their weight because they only gain weight in the middle, when in reality people gain it everywhere, like legs, arms, face, etc. I wish we had full body consequences.
Thank youuuu!!! I just got back into the Sims and was looking through Google a few days ago for answers on how different workouts affects sims but didn’t find solid answers.
A bunch of the pack food will make your sim gain 0 weight, it's must likely an oversight A bunch of them are really egregious too, like eggs benedict, steak, and any dish from the baking skill
Wszechzajebiscie wyglądają utuczone, po przezonglowaniu i pograniu we piłki, oraz na poczatku, Ale wiadomo zawsze My Kobietki jesteśmy Wszechpiekne 😇😘😍
This video is fantastic! As a fan of The Sims 4, I'm going to show it to my students in an intro to methodology class this semester! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you very much! I did not know, that the different kinds of sport have different results. I only knew, that there is food, that don´t makes your sim gaining weight at all (becouse the sims team forgot to set calories for it). Base game food has calories, food from packs often has no calories.
People complains that Sims 3 and 4 lacks weight gain and loss system and assumes only the second game have. Sims 3 and 4 do have it but it's less noticeable and the games won't point you out about your sim's physique like the second Sims game does. It would be rude and kinda pointless or even insulting to some players for the game directly judge your sim's weight instead of let it be just like in real life as you don't really get a constant notification from some God everytime your weight changed in reality or have a weight meter at all times with you. Similar to the muscle system people complain Sims 3 and 4 lacks and claims that no matter how much they train their sims, nothing have changed which I don't get either since they do get thinner with bigger visible muscles in my games when I train them and this video demonstrate it perfectly. Although I think the weight system function differently in Sims 3 where it seems like it's harder to gain weight as you mostly gain weight when eating with full hunger meter as you receive an neutral moodlet telling you that eating while full will cause gain weight for you sim. I though that was also true for Sims 4 but this video demonstrate that your sim will gain equal amount of weight regardless of hunger. I did notice that the sims' weight keeps changing over time and force them on the treadmill or force fed them (some got extremely thin for some reason which looked creepy, I think because most of them are my athletic sims). There are even lifetime rewards in Sims 3 and 4 that affects how your sims would gain muscles or weight. I know that Sims 2 is the one of the series with the most unusually impressive attention to details but the weight and muscle system is not one of them.
does the jogging interaction work the same as the treadmill? i dont wanna buy a treadmill or travel to the gym so i get my sims got go jogging but i feel like it doesnt change anything about their fat or muscle
I've noticed that if my sims never starts exercising, their weight/muscle mass doesn't change much, but when I DO start exercising, they gain weight/lose muscle mass faster. Anyone else?
Thanks for doing this! I've been having some sims do a lot of yoga, and was wondering if it does more than give you muscle. Shame that the basketball hoop doesn't give you much of anything, the item doesn't count as a fitness item, AND the Sims are so broken that if there's a basketball hoop, that's all the want to do is play basketball.
Petey you always cover the best things!!! I'm SO HAPPY someone finally covered this! I've always wondered!!! I'm curious to see if there's things kids can do to reduce body fat? I know they can't "work out" per say, but I wonder how different things from yoga to money bars, to bike riding can affect them
No wonder, I had the wife cook all sorts of food, stuff it all in the fridge and both end up incredibly fat even if they exercised on weight lifting machine twice a day. Veggie and treadmill for both until they slim down!
Makes me a little sad that lifting weights doesnt make them lose bodyfat, resistance training is extremely effective at weightloss and while you should do cardio for your cardiovascular health, you can technically burn enough calories with weight lifting and eating healthier that you'd get to your desired bodyfat
Know it makes sense that my generation family the grandson looked like the hulk compared to my starter sim of the generation his grandfather that sim was buff as wel but in his prime but the grandson Def looked bigger both had difrent training stuf
Wow, such a great test, love this idea for the video and generally all your videos!! Thank you so much for testing this, I will totally change the exercise equipement for my Sims now!! :) EDIT: Did you by any chance notice if a Sim with more muscle mass would have weight loosing effects with time too, as it is in real life?
Thank you for sharing this groundbreaking findings. You should consider publishing in a peer reviewed journal. 😆 In all seriousness, this was really helpful. Now i know how to help my sims complete the final stage of their athletic aspiration without cheating. 😂 I think I’ve only maxed out muscle mass without cheating like once.
Jannie! Ahaha I'm not sure I'm quite scientific enough for a peer reviewed journal 😂. I'm so glad that the video was helpful, and thank you so for the kind (and funny) comment!
I hate the weight gaining system, my sims eat once a day and only when theyre almost starving and afer 5 in game days end up overweight.. its so annoying
