🌿Weight to Volume Tincturing is a method I like to use when I want to ensure that I’m pulling all of the Water Soluble and Alcohol Soluble constituents from the plant material that I’m tincturing.
🌱All parts of a plant have both water and alcohol soluble properties. However, depending on the plant and which part is being used, can both properties be extracted properly.
🤷🏾‍♀️ I did my best to explain how to do the math for calculating the amount of alcohol to water needed, using the weight of the herb to be tinctured. In this example I’m using Fresh Burdock Root.
🌱This method requires the use of 190proof Grain Alcohol (Everclear) due to the ability to dilute the alcohol with water as needed to reach the desired ratio.
🌱I love learning different methods and ways of using plants, and especially love working with the fresh material, be it Flowers, Roots, or Leaves. Ase!
✔THE MATH….
1:3 60% tincture using 10oz of fresh root
10x3=30oz of total menstruum needed
30x60% (.60) =18 (ounces of alcohol needed)
30-18= 12 (ounces of water needed)
To add an additional “dose” which will dilute the tincture from a 1:3 to a 1:4 ratio
18 divided by 3 = 6oz of additional alcohol
12 divided by 3 = 4oz of additional water

@sentwali01221 Hi thank you for the great breakdown! What type of water did you use? We make tea with distilled and drink natural spring water from a mountain source. Also, is this tincture good for shrinking prostates or do you make others that work better? 🙏🏾

I appreciate you for watching. I use natural spring water as well from a ground source at Indian Springs State Park. For the prostate, I've seen men get results from using saw palmetto and nettle leaf & root. 🙂

Thanks for the video. I just bought some burdock root for the first time without even knowing what it looked like at first so i wish you would've started this video from when you actually cut it up. Do i keep the outer layer on? What advice can you give me to use it for the liver? thats why i bought it. I dont thinl alcohol is a good idea for someone with liver issues or kidney issues. Im trying to fix something so it doesnt become chronic. im trying to stay away from hospitals and their racist systems. 😅

Thank you for watching. Herbs are fascinating in that they can be used in so many ways to obtain their medicinal benefits. The benefits of Burdock Root I listed are just a few. Digestive and liver support are of particular interest to me overall, and I agree that if someone has liver issues or disease (especially if alcohol-associated) that an alcohol tincture may not be the best method. However, keep in mind that tincture doses are in drops and dropperfuls not ounces. Also, eating a very ripe banana has about the same alcohol content that a dropperful of tincture has, and tinctures can be taken diluted in water if necessary. As far as preparing, you do not have to peel the root, but I would clean it thoroughly before using. When I make tea, I slice the root, add to a pot of water, bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes, strain and let it cool some before drinking. Hope that helps. 😊

@@sentwali01221 yes thank you that helps a lot. Also I think I heard you say in the video that the other way is better for kidney Health than the tea if I'm not mistaken. Just wanted to ask is the tea would be a significant help for kidneys and liver vs the other method?

@@donnie8.12 Didn't speak on the kidneys but would suggest to use as a tea given your concerns.
