🌿Weight to Volume Tincturing is a method I like to use when I want to ensure that I’m pulling all of the Water Soluble and Alcohol Soluble constituents from the plant material that I’m tincturing.
🌱All parts of a plant have both water and alcohol soluble properties. However, depending on the plant and which part is being used, can both properties be extracted properly.
🤷🏾♀️ I did my best to explain how to do the math for calculating the amount of alcohol to water needed, using the weight of the herb to be tinctured. In this example I’m using Fresh Burdock Root.
🌱This method requires the use of 190proof Grain Alcohol (Everclear) due to the ability to dilute the alcohol with water as needed to reach the desired ratio.
🌱I love learning different methods and ways of using plants, and especially love working with the fresh material, be it Flowers, Roots, or Leaves. Ase!
✔THE MATH….
1:3 60% tincture using 10oz of fresh root
10x3=30oz of total menstruum needed
30x60% (.60) =18 (ounces of alcohol needed)
30-18= 12 (ounces of water needed)
To add an additional “dose” which will dilute the tincture from a 1:3 to a 1:4 ratio
18 divided by 3 = 6oz of additional alcohol
12 divided by 3 = 4oz of additional water
